  • My all time fav. airplane.

Fantastic design, lines, abilities. I wish they only built more.

  • 'Flying Porcupine'.

  • very beautiful

  • This aircraft was filmed on Loch Indaal, Isle of Islay, Scotland in November 1941. The pilot, Wing Commander Johnny Hyde was shot down over Norway, flying Beaufighters, in 1942. Film Cameraman was Jonah Jones..

  • Germans called this bird "the flying porcupine" One Sunderland held off an entire squadron of JU-88's over the Bay of Biscay in 1943.

  • Beautiful - i am trying to get hold of an Airfix model kit of this plane(/boat)!

  • @2002And It should still be available.. and hopefully they'll re-release it again before too long.. :)

  • @BasicModelling in plastic kit? Italari are going to be doing the MK1 sunderland, later this year / start of next year. Should be a good kit.

The downside to the Airfix is that it's one of the first large planes they did and the tooling is now quite old.

  • @yorkshiresheep I didn't know that.. :) Great news.. Trouble is, Italeri has a reputation for not always being accurate either... :) I hope their kit will be in 1/72 scale, I'd love to build one... :)

  • its on offer in hobby craft at the moment for 12.99

  • @2002And Airfix are still making it and it is available. It might be worth waiting for the Italari kit that they've announced in their catalogue as it should be better detailed than the now dated Airfix kit.

  • @yorkshiresheep Yes, since I posted that comment, I have seen several its for sale. I think I will wait for the Italari kit though.. :)Thanks.. :)

  • @2002And I did forget to mention, white ensign models produce a detailing kit for the Airfix with the cross wires for the floats and the under wing radar antenna, some of which may be suitable for enhancing the Italari kit.

  • @yorkshiresheep Sounds good.. thanks for the extra info.. :)

  • Haha, sweet

  • Reminds me of that cartoon the bear that flys a plane like this one and has a son that wind surfs behind it

  • Was that bigger or smaller than the 'Spruce Goose'?

  • @bywestonbay smaller.

the spruce goose was waaay bigger
