  • CO2 has a 26% global warming effect (the pessimistic one)

29,321 Mt of CO2 produced by human civ (2007)

    0.039% of atmosphere is CO2 (2009) taken as ~0.04%

    5×10^9 Mt total atmosphere

    200 000 000 Mt total CO2 in atmosphere

    0.0001466 % is man made in 2007

0.000038 % max human effect on global warming

    (some math)

  • @szeredaiakos Gosh thanks for those stats. Luckily climate scientists actually know some math and all of them have derived the correct conclusions.

  • Start stacking scientific backed up books people, cause if Mooney fails his mission we are sure to be flooded by theocracy.

  • I love this guy .

  • Gooooooooo chris moooooneeyyy

  • in that entire paragraph butchering English, you used a period once. Your lack of reasoning and sheer idiocy is worse torment that your imaginary Hell. good day.

  • haha well im sorry sir i did not know that commenting on youtube was an offical document i will be sure to use correct grammer next time thank you haha see you on judgement day ;)

  • When is judgment day?

  • @sirisnin A week from tomorrow.

  • you are a wacko

  • Good speech Mr Mooney! I could think at least one of those criticism was directed at me. I guess it's hard to appeal to common sense from the Religious Right after referring to their side of the argument as ignorant.

  • Wise words from a wise man.

  • ha! that's funny ScaperSteph- I like Chris Mooney a lot!

  • Finally, someone's fighting back. I was starting to think I'd have to stash science books in a hole in the wall before the theocracy comes so when my daughter is in higher grade levels I'll have something to teach her myself. (Yes, I'm half serious, sadly enough.)

  • Science believes that in the known universe we have 2 absolutes, the speed of light in a vacuum and the Plank length! Of course, these absolutes may not be entirely absolute but so far they stand up to scrutiny! ID/Creationism/Bible literalism, being unprovable passes the buck right back to science! After watching this I do believe Reps. are helping dumb down the US. Many preachers definitely are. Those in charge of s. discoveries need to be nicer!

  • Do you call intelligent design "science"? So bible should be called "science"?

  • Dr. Behe is one of the outliers of the scientific community that this video addresses.

  • @batmaneul Dr Behe actually advocates evolution in species. But he thinks that cellular (ie: in cells) mechanisms are irreducibly complex.

So Behe actually believes in evolution.

And the science community systematically destroyed his accusations of cellular irreducibly complexity decades ago. You can watch videos right here here on youtube showing how various cellular mechanisms evolve, contradicting Behe at every turn.

for example, do a youtube search for: FLAGELLA EVOLUTION

  • Very relevant. Thanks for posting this important video.

  • Very nice Chris Mooney had lots of good points

  • Weeeeee, YouTube The best way to debate world issues.

  • AMERICAN ENERGY WASTE is EVERYWHERE !

We stupidly over heat and over cool our homes, offices, businesses, schools, churches, etc.. 10's of millions of outdoor lights burn during the day. Most Americans do not minimize their driving.

The SOLUTION is to dramatically reduce America's energy demand using the economics of taxing energy, in lieu of Federal Income Tax. UNTIL gas cost $6 to $8 per gallon, hedonistic America will not reduce its energy waste. TAX ENERGY-NOT INCOME

  • There is no absolute moral code. Morals evolve over time as we grow in our understaning of the diversity of humankind. The code we live by are the laws that govern us in the respective country we live in. What we need is not an absolute, but guidelines to live within that provide for vast diversity of ideas and lifestyle.

  • Without an absolute moral code from which to act, all things become possible and acceptable given enough time to slide. It is a dangerous slippery slope that has led to the downfall of major societies. I believe that there should be open scientific debate, but I strongly feel that both sides must be respected. The religious right are not all mindless crazies with IQs hovering in the low 80's.

  • Who is going to give us an "absolute moral code"? You implied "God", right? You do not think humans have the capability to decide ethical and moral issues? If so why not? The religion leaders' history is laden with barbaric acts: Inquisition, muslin suicides, religious wars, burning of heretics, etc.

  • I believe that God already has given us an absolute moral code in the Bible. I'm not going to defend the actions of the Inquisition or any other nutjobs who pervert scripture for their own use. I believe that without an absolute guide to go by, every man will decide for himself what is right, which is exactly what we have today.

  • We have a system of determining what is appropriate and inappropriate behavior in society: the law. What I like about the law is that it's able to change and evolve over time. There's nothing in our laws about stoning insolent children to death. There's nothing in our law about magic resurrections or invisible men in the sky. I like that. I don't trust the motives of anyone who would have his particular religion written into stone as the moral absolute simply because it's HIS religion.

  • If it can evolve over time, then sooner or later, antything and everything can become permissible. Absolutes exist, whether anyone wants to believe it or not. I'm not saying to implement things simply because I believe them, either. I won't make assumptions about your motives, please extend me the same courtesy.

  • What a ridiculous slippery slope argument. As though without the Bible to tell us that killing people is wrong, society would degenerate into barbarism. Prove the existence of absolutes. Do what thousands of years of brilliant philosophy have not.

  • The statement that there are no absolutes is an absolute statement. Case closed.

  • Haha. Oh, okay. You really should write that up and get it published, I think the world should hear about your fantastic revelation. Truly earth-shattering, as are all arguments ended with "case closed." I take that as resignation.

  • To the contrary, it isn't resignation at all. And you didn't even try to debate my point. It's not my revelation, either. To state that there are no absolutes is an absolute. It's a self-refuting argument. Therefore, absolutes must exist.

  • 5 stars.

Now, for that last 30% of clueless Americans...

  • Thanks Chris Mooney for fighting away the terrorist: ignorance. Promote communication between the public and the scientists!

  • among the first people rounded up by adolph hitler, educators and scientist.

  • Are you saying that Mooney is like Hitler? I'm confused.

  • @astrocreep51 he's saying that Hitler also knew how important it was to maintain control over the scientific and academic arenas.

And this somewhat mirrors the Republican's efforts to undermine science academia.

Poor argument, Godwin's law and all that.
