  • very easy learning experinces

  • very helpful spins i

am begginer nd this makes me look like a pro in front of others

  • Spins are about the only issue I've had with my horse. He'll do everything else beautifully and effortlessly, but he struggles with spins. He'll do them very correctly, but I just can't seem to get him to increase speed. Your point about getting them to keep moving forward in the first video is great, and I think that's my problem, I just need to get him un-stuck. Thanks for these videos!

  • I just clicked the link in the description, and a BIZARRE page came up saying the server had been hacked, and the window was moving around kinda crazy! I don't suggest anyone click that link!!

  • @GoodRedBlackRatio Hi, yes that link was an accident. It's fixed and fine now.

  • hi larry how long will take a horse t star the spins

  • I am so glad to have found these videos. They are really helpful when your just starting out.

  • how do u make them plant the foot down...mine keeps moving out of the spot where he starts...

  • that paint has some really unique and amazing markings =)

  • You can grab the audio-mp3 of this tune at fromvideotomp3 doht cohm.

  • My horse can spn, we got that down without hopping, but how to you get them to go faster?

  • @Waybueno I watched your video and you really don't have as much of a problem as you think. You just need to get on with it and keep going until your horse gets better.

I suggest you do 2 things...

#1. Go to my channel and watch ALL my youtube videos on spinning. Especially the "Horse Training Tips" video.

#2. Spin your horse a revolution or two and then trot forward out of the spin and into a very tight circle. Trot with your horse "framed-up" and with a LOT of impulsion.

    Repeat.

    Larry T.

  • a nice video. I have always been able to get my horses to turn around but am learning to collect them better and get the spin to be more flat. I am sure my timing is the only thing lacking now-thanks. My question is--Do you try to increase the speed of your turn as you time the leg before the spin-are you adding impulsion as you go along?

  • @TLCinNM1 The speed of the spin is dictated by the number of "clucks" and the intensity of my outside leg. Ideally, clucking is enough to get the desired speed.

  • I have a 7 yr old thoroughbred mare, that I have picked up doing reining, and cutting with, she does a great job at her stops, leads changes, her backing up, the only really big issuse we have is with her spins and taking the left lead. The left lead awe are getting down, and just recently i had a big problem to get her to spin to the right, I stopped using the reins to teach her to spin and use a rope around her neck, and for some reason she is getting it better.

  • How thoughtful....this never would have occurred to me. It's the same revelation as timing in a slide stop. Thanks so much for this, Larry.

  • I just got my 3 year old horse from a guy that was just not working, so i`ve decided to train him myself ...gulp! he`s very willing but a little lazy im trying to get him sppining but all i do is luck him and he starts bumping and bumping so i`ve just order your spining video, but i think i`ll have to get the whole series because i find your videos the most explicit and easiest to understand im determined to get this horse working!!!!!!

  • I just started reining work with my horse, but he wont change his leads to save his life. Is there any special trick or a certain way you make your horses change their leads? Thanks!

  • I have just started to get my horse to spin by watching your videos, but my horse will not change leads to save his life, is there a trick or a certain way you teach your horses to change leads??

  • @babydeur , No tricks. Good lead changes are the result of getting independent control of the horse's body parts and positioning his body for the change.

On my website, I have a dvd available that shows how to do it.

    Larry T.

  • @babydeur, i had the same problem when i went out on a ride with my aunt and our friend because we went up to the trainers cause she was training our friends colt, i got a free lesson on how to make my horse canter she bucked reared all that i stayed on but use the end of your reins to smack the horse on the butt and drive them through it, bring theyre nose in if they act up it took a hard hour but i cantered and just keep doing it cause now we run all over the place.

  • what bit would you suggest on a four year old just learning how to spin? I just have her in a snaffle now.

  • @horsegirl511 , Leave her in the snaffle until she's spinning well.

On my website, I outline the entire bitting process. You might want to read it.

    Larry T.

  • In your professional opinion, do you think that learning this exercise with an older horse is appropriate? I lease a 24-year-old Appaloosa who is in good shape for his age. I would like to practice this with him.

  • I have a horse that I have had to put in a hacamore because he chews on his bit and throws his head. He does not pay attention to what is being asked of him with a bit despite correction. Please give any advise on how I can work him with a bit and keep him from playing with it and focusing on the task at hand.

  • i have been working with my horse on spining he now spins perfectly! i am still wokring on slid stoping him so far he is doing good for a 2 year old horse i will try to put on a video!

  • @350fordchick That is so good to hear. I love it when a rider sticks with it and finds success. Congratulations.

    Larry T.

  • Larry, your horse treining is fantastic and equally important to me, your people teaching is awsome and totally understandable! Thank you!

  • @jenniferjoymiddleton You are welcome.

  • Larry thank you so much i started 2 horses and they both sold thanks to some simple corrections i needed help with and found them through out your horse spining video.

  • @ericnavarroperez Glad I could help =o)

  • Very well done Larry -- very clearly explained and performed beautifully! Thank you!

  • @jedihorsemanship You are very welcome.

  • My horse has gotten his bit teeth taken out and cant were a snaffle is it ok to do it with a hacamore? and he's getting old he is about 21 years old can i slide stop him and spin him still without hurting him?

  • @350fordchick It would be best to ask your vet. Even Larry can't help with this. It all depends on the horse. Some horses can jump and race at 21 and up. Some horses are physically exhausted by their teens. It all depends on how they've been raised and ridden, and how well their conformation and physical shape/health is. However on the hackamore question, yes they can be used if used properly.

  • I have a question not really related to spins though (but this was so informitive i can't wait to teach my little one). My little horse has a really nice stop, gets his butt under him and really stops fast, wont take more than a step after i've said whoa. A few times he's slide a couple feet as well, though i know this isn't good cause i'd hate for him to burn his bulbs. So my question is should I put baby sliders on him in order to allow him to slide a bit and to start teaching him to slide?

  • @GlompoFie, if I had a barefoot reining horse prospect that was starting to slide, I'd probably shoe him behind with a 3/4" plate and short trailers that did not extend past the bulbs of the foot.

    Larry T.

  • @ltrocha Awesome, thank you =)

  • Hi Larry

I constantly keep learning from your tips

  • Is this even possible in a snaffle bit? Thanks, and these videos are SO enlightening. Your ability to communicate an idea and properly give instruction is stellar.

    Thanks,

    Liz

  • @esaunders07 Hi Liz, Glad you like the info. Yes, most of this training should be done in a snaffle bit. Once the horse has a good understanding of what to do, then you can move up to a transition bit or a curb bit.

    Larry T.

  • Very good explanation!!!

I'll try it over 1 months. At this moment my horse has a little bit of rest, but we'll start next week to work on his condition.

If I have questions I'll ask you!

  • Wow you are amazing! I hope i can do this as well when i get older :) Your videos are very well done and you explain everything very nicely! You are very inspiring and I am so happy that i found these videos. I am going to keep watching more and find things that i have been doing wrong

This spinning video i'm sure will help a ton with my mare i can't wait to try these things. She has a lazy personality but if i do these right i know she can be respectful

    Thank you Larry Trocha!!

  • I sent my horse to a "reining trainer" for six months. To say the least, I was NOT impressed. Anyway, I watched your video and I got her start turn on her hind quarters in 5 days just from watching Part of this series! Your video is very clear, and the sound quality is great! Its not scratchy or windy at all.

Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you so much! Your videos are the ONLY training videos I will watch! Also, so you have a video of how to teach a horse to come to a sliding stop?

  • You are welcome, SHL.

Yes, I have two DVDs on stopping and if sliding stops are your goal, I recommend getting them both.

    Larry T.

  • I am looking into getting your german martingale and the Easy Stop products. Would there be anyway you could send me a video(s) if I purchase those two items?

  • Hi I have a previous cutting trained mare that was a brood mare to 10 years and I want to get her into reining. When I first got her she would spin now they're not as fast or as smooth as they once were do you have any advice on how to fix this?

  • This is fantastic help thank you so much i have a non pro horse in the UK i am not a finished rider by any means. this is really helpfull in making sure im asking correctly. We have a few good trainers here and im loving the sport but i have more horse than rider at the moment as my video shows lol!

  • Your videos are GODSENT. I am a self-trained western rider (primarily english), and your videos are helping so much with my reining skills. I had the problem with holding too steadily with the reins (a big dressage habit) and asking for my horse to go at the wrong time, so I ended up with a really hoppy spin. I'm going to practice all the things in your videos. It's going to be very helpful to me at the Extreme Cowboy World Champs! Thanks for sharing. xD

  • I'm glad you liked it, X.

Good luck in the Extreme Cowboy competition.

Let me know how it goes.

    Larry T.

  • Wow, thank you so much!! I can see where I've been making mistakes in teaching my mare spin. We'll definately go back to square one and work on suppling up a lot more before attempting any more spins. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!

  • You are welcome, RockyBlue.

    I'm glad it was helpful.

    Larry T.

  • Really informative video - not an amateur rider, but new to reining and trying to learn pretty much everything I can because I've fallen in love with the sport. Awesome videos for breaking down the spin!

  • Glad you liked it, X.

If you are serious about learning how to train, go to my website and registar to receive my "Horse Training Tips" Newsletter. It is loaded with info plus it's FREE.

    Larry T.

  • I relly enjoyed the video as I am a visiual person more than audio. Larry you make training a joy. I always see results. I learned much more about spinning. I can do this.Seeing you demonsrate the technique is super. It is not always easy to get the timing down, it takes practice. I do have a number of your videos and they are very easy to understand.

    Thanks,

    Keith J

  • Good to hear from you Keith.

I'm glad you're happy with my DVDs.

    Makes my work worthwhile.

    Thanks a bunch.

    Larry T.

  • This is a great video! It really ties Part 1 and Part 2 together and gives me some things to work on with my Mustang! Thanks!

  • I'm a very visual learner and this video really brought the spin home for my brain cells! When Mr. Trocha called 'rein' each time you're to use your rein it helped to see how the leg and hand work together. GREAT!

  • Cnew, That's the best descriptive video clip i've seenI have most of your videos,I'm amatuer but have a passion for training my own horsesI'm riding a Bob Acre Doc mare ordered your startin horses on cattle brought 10 head home watched vidieod myself everyday watched your video everyday have long way to go but couldn't have gotten where I am without them , after I figured out the essence for timing turning my horses around got lots easier, backing in time got lots easier ,stopping to THANKS!!!

  • Yeah! I've been avoiding the spin because I didn't want to confuse my mare. This video breaks it down to where even a novice can understand the steps. Thx, Larry!!!

  • Good to hear from you HossLuvrz.

Yes, don't hesitate to try this on your mare.

There is very little risk of messing her up with this technique.

    Good luck.

    Larry T.

  • Larry, it's amazing how the timing is soooo crucial! I worked on it last night with my mare and I'm not sure how many spins we were doing. It amazing the results we had.

I've been clucking at the same time as I apply my aids, should a refrain from that for now until I get her to speed up? And how do I get her to speed up eventually?

    Thanks! Val from Canada

  • Hi Val,

Read the reply i gave to Bernie as it applies to you too.

Speed is achieved by having the horse respond well to the "cluck".

Have them moving off the spur well too.

    Larry T.

  • Thanks again Larry great as always. I am having problems in getting my filly to to keep the forward motion when asking for a spin when I put the rein on her neck to ask her to turn around at times she just seems to freeze up and of course it mucks up the turnaround so I have to keep riding her forward all the time

    thanks Bernadette Apps Australia

  • Bernie,

Ride the filly forward with your legs, if the response is slow, "cluck" and then pop her on the butt (outside hip).

Do this until you can walk and trot a VERY SMALL circle. Then, go into a spin for a few steps and leave into a circle again.

    Larry T.

  • Larry, are you using leg pressure on either the inside or the outside. If not, should leg be used while teaching the spin, and if so, how. Thanks!

  • The outside leg is used with a "press and release". Press in time with the horse's outside leg. It's the same timing as the reins.

    Larry T.

  • Another great video.

    Tara

  • very informative and well explained. Thanks Larry

  • Hi Larry

As usual great info- this was a good one!!! And you explain it as clear as the nose on our face

    Bill

  • Larry you are amazing I posted this lesson to my face book ... do you have facebook you should have a fan page ..I think I get it it's just getting the timing down ..I am going to the barn right now to practice that ...

  • This is a very well-explained demonstration. Thank you for sharing your expertise.

  • You explained the spin very good I understand it straight away. Very informative thks Sharon

  • Larry,

    great .

Your explanations very clear and demonstration

    is excellent.

    Thank you

    Ron R

  • Larry, wonderful clear explanations of how to set up your horse for the best possible spin. With your timing, I am now getting smoother and faster spins. Thank you!

  • Another great understandable tip. Easy understood and demonstration is excellent as always.

    Thanks Larry

"Hey" to trusty assistant Bev from Minnesota.

  • Hi SuperGarbe,

Bev told me to say "Hey" to you too.

    Good to hear from you.

    Take care,

    Larry T.

  • I'm learning a lot from your videos. This is the first time I've had the different types of spin explained to me. Thanks so much for doing them.

    Tina

  • Great info! I ride English & Horsemanship and your tips are so much more than just Reining & Cutting

  • Glad you like them, B2B.

    Larry T.

  • The timing of the shoulder coming forward and the rein cue to move the shoulder over at the same time is what I needed to know. But I still can't get any speed from my horse. Would spurs help?

  • Robin,

For speed, condition the horse to respond to the "cluck".

Cluck and then pop him on the butt.

    Larry T.

  • Nice and clear like all the time, the best video i ever seen and very happy to have a lot of them.Hello from FRANCE

  • Hi Stetson,

    Good to hear from you.

    Larry T.

  • I have a 2 yr old that wants to put her inside leg forward when asking for the turn around. Also she is a little down hill in the front right now could this be why she steps forward instead of to the side?

  • Hi Gold,

If your filly isn't stepping her inside leg to the "side", she isn't moving off the rein good enough.

Watch part 2 of this series to see how to get it done.

    Larry T.

  • I have had many variations of instructions on "how to". With this I finally have the details of what to do. I am going to try this sometime this week. My mare has been learning with me, and professionals can get her to turn, but I have not been driving the correctly. Thank you! Very step by step and clear.

  • You are welcome, CowGurl.

    Glad you like it.

    Larry T.

  • Great video. Very clear explanation. I've been pulling back so I'm looking forward to trying this.

  • Yes Keemofix, give it a try.

Think of the spin as the smallest circle a horse can possibly do.

    Larry T.
