Lynch is just so good when it comes to creating that sort of nameless feeling of dissonant, nightmare-like horror. On the surface, there is very little "scary" about this scene, and yet it is truly unnerving and upsetting. This whole film is full of that sort of "horror." Truly brilliant.
you have to watch his other movies and understand them first. then maybe you will get this one. still he is trying to be vague, like something you forgot, and can barely put it together. something you wanted to forget, that ends up haunting you, and you don't know what it is. You try to believe, its something that happened to someone else but you slowly realize that person is you. and now that person is hiding something from you . you are hiding something from yourself , as revenge.
I feel like this movie was just an attempt to capture the feeling of a really bad dream. It was DEFINITELY the only movie to EVER do it successfully. A masterpiece, if for the atmosphere alone. There is no answer. It is what it is, and "what it is" is fucking terrifying.
Haha true, true. Sometimes I wonder if Lynch made this jumbled movie with the intent to laugh at those who praise it and try to make sense out of it. Probably not, but you never know...
@michaelgolletz I think movie about an actress who loses the difference between her real self and the "actor" persona or aura she has created for her self. She gets "lost" in Hollywood and loses distinction between her and her "actress" self. She suspect even her real life is scripted and with every layer she peels she finds another script....and probably endless layers of movie sets? So she is lost in maze?
@scrambledpenis it's an experiment with digital filmmaking, nothing more. it's a movie about images, sounds, colors, light, and movement. art doesn't have to have a point - that's the point of art. that's what makes it art. but I suppose I don't have to defend this movie to someone who used the word "retarded" to describe anything.
@scrambledpenis I guess that is your opinion but this film never was meant to have a point... Its purely surrealistic.. There is no definitive point or purpose to surrealism.. It plays with the unconscious fears and desires...
I want to diagree, however, I cannot. B/C the second time I watched it thourgh, the more sense it made.

this film is not supposed to have a point... It is purely surrealistic... not all films have to have a purpose... That is the beauty of art!

Amazing scene from Lynch's most misunderstood film (well maybe that's FIre Walk With Me). This whole movie is a goddamned mindfuck in the best way.

It's missing a long squeaker fart, right at the end.

@michaelgolletz It took me three full length watches and a conversation with a very perceptive and creative friend to start piecing it together.

I started to get it more after seeing it like 6 times. The movie is not random, there is a very clear linear story in this film.
