You know the Himalayan Mountains span into Pakistan right???? Its scientifically proven that salt lamps can increase the amount of negative ions by 600%. Your source of reference is Wikipedia????
each salt molecule will always has the tendency to attract 6 water molecules, such bond is not strong and therefore some water molecules will always be released and new one attached back, as a result, the negative charged water molecule released to the air will absorb other molecule as in cleaning the air .... such effect is also market termed as long wave negative ion vs short wave negative ion which is man made, eject out quickly but did not travel far, as contrast to salt released ion ...
if you look for scientific data to dis proof something you will get it, like wise if you look for ways to prove it, you will get it too. That's why its a pseudo-science, not a scam or lie. Are you sure you are really alive and not just a collection of your own memory ? movie - Passenger.
Oh so very true - its a lump of salt and has about as much mystical energy as - well a lump of salt (which in my opinion is the same level of mystical energy as anything else - none!)
I thought that it was a pretty cool candle holder when I first received it, and I still think it is...or was☺
But what started to really bother me, was all of those far-out claims being made by the people who are selling them. And even worse than that, was the people who were falling for these false claims, without even batting an eye. It would almost be funny, if these companies were not making a profit on the trusting nature that some people have.
Even I almost fell for this, at least the part about heating the salt to act as a natural ionizer. But as anmoose noted, salt is salt; we cannot deny basic chemistry☺
Ummmmm... A pristine primordial salt crystal with modern plastic candles embedded in it? In what part of Himalaya are they mining these prehistoric jewels?
If my college chemistry serves me correctly, salt is sodium chloride, aka NaCl. Nothing more or less. That should include the variety with "the worlds highest elemental content," should it not? It must have a LOT of Sodium, and a LOT of Chlorine in it to be so potent.
The funny thing about things like this, is that fairly educated people seem to buy into it. I can't tell you how many times I've heard people say, I can't tell you how or why it works, but it just does. I am often accused of being closed-minded, just because I dare to ask for the scientific data to back up some very grandiose claims.
Maybe the next time you are in Pakistan buying rock salt you can get with the US military and hunt down Bin Laden. Just like the way you found Bigfoot. Keep up the good work brother!
The problem with the way some people think, is that as long as it is natural, then it MUST be better. In some cases that is true, but in other cases that is as false as false can be.
Mushrooms are all natural; but there are more kinds of poisonous mushrooms, than there are edible ones. And every year, we hear about expert mushroom pickers dying or losing their livers, just because they accidently ate the wrong mushroom.
Thanks, I had that block of Pakistani salt since 2003; it was just taking up space. I got it from an ex-girlfriend who, although she was very smart, she fell for EVERY Natural scam out there, regardless of how off the wall it was (and no matter what it cost). She lacked the ability to question the validity of any statement made by a company, as long as they said it was natural, in her eyes it had to be the new health miracle.
I have no problem with that philosophy, the placebo effect is very real. But there is that nasty little issue of truth in advertising. Gullible people fall for the lies and unscientific fabrications, and they end up paying good money to be duped.
people fall for the kookiest things. i worked in a health food store for almost 8 years and wow the things people believe to be healing or even in the slightest bit useful was humorous
I've met a lot of people who as long as they heard the word natural, they would buy dog poop and believe that it was the secret new cure-all that the EVIL drug companies didn't want them to hear about☺
you wasted my time. why

I bought one - but then I just love big lumps of salt.
Nothing mystical in it - just a big lump of mineral salt.

It is amazing how quickly a block of salt will dissolve when you hit it with a garden hose.
About 1 hour☺
