  • Freaking AMAZING :) Thank YOU :)

  • I'm from Egypt and I love this masterpiece :)

  • Majestic.

  • One of my favorite.

  • ketèlbey was inspired and moved, one silent evening when he was somewhere in GOZO,MALTA and all of a sudden he heard the bells of Ta Pinu church ring.He was so moved that he composed here, where he was stationed as a musician.A tribute to Gozitan bells. The original manuscript of Bells Across the Meadows,as written down by Ketèlbey himself of course,is still kept in the musical archives at the Aurora Opera House Gozo. For more details you can click the website leone.org.mt/pages/teatru.asp

  • Does anybody know the text??

  • @Funkemarie123 Composer’s synopsis

A detachment of native soldiers approach and pass through a village, then a song from a boat on the Nile is heard softly across the water. A short passage depicting an Arab playing his pipe leads to a repetition of the song-melody by the full orchestra. The soldiers now return and some of them sing the song in harmony. A few bars of the melody bring the piece to a quiet conclusion.

  • I'd only known 'Persian Market' up till now; thank you for this excellent version of a good piece.

  • 実に壮大な曲ですね。この曲を聴くと心象風景に「大成建設」の機材センターや同社の施工になる湾岸諸国の超高層やドーハ国際空港、石油プラントが浮かぶのは私だけでしょうか。

  • Katelbey is often attacked as inferior, when he was often the first in a particular genre, and familiarity can breed contempt, in his case this has held back appreciation of his very fine works. The multiple versions and settings for any instruments does not help, a poor performance is a poor one, and his reputation suffered at times.

  • ' How potent cheap music is" Noel

Coward, Private Lives. he might have been thinking of this piece. So bad it's truly good:-)

  • @tstsullivan797 Yes, and as I understand Mr. Ketelbey

cried all the way to the bank as he became quite wealthy

from this and other "popular" music he wrote.

  • i remember listening to this work as i read the fu manchu novels of sax rohmer. the two are hence linked in my mind.

  • Wonderful!

  • Yes! This is very much as I remember it on the old green 78.

    Thank You.
