@thebmeat There used to be instructions for that on the Sennheiser USA web site. I tried to find that pdf last fall, but I think it isn't there anymore. Anyways, IIRC, you grab the fabric from the upper _inner_ side and very carefully pull it off. Putting the cushion back in to its place is very tricky, though, so if you don't need to get the cushion off, I don't recommend trying it.
@ak47whaaa I highly doubt that. How do you tell something is 10x better than something else? Sure they are better than the 595s, but 10 times better? The bass goes a bit lower on the 800s and there's less harmonic distortion and they are a bit louder if you want to destroy your ears (they also go higher on the Hz scale than the 595s, but there's no point since the 595s already go to such high frequencies that human ear can't hear them). But please do tell me what makes the 800s 10 times better?
@Kepez You are thinking a tad too technical, audio is mainly subjective. Tech specs sadly don't tell the entire story, driver speed, sound detail, soundstaging, comfort, clarity, etc. There are many factors you don't see that affect the performance that aren't in the specs themselves. @StormPrawn joking right there are so many weaklinks here this is more for entertainment value then trying to listen to actual real life quality. First problem is that we are listening to open drivers (not on your ears) with an unknown quality mic, hosted on youtube compressed, and then downloaded on our side with unknown quality speakers. Not a chance your hearing anything quality here. Best reguards. I just love Sennheisers!
@kebbun1 well then there is something wrong with your sound card, headphone amplifier or with your hearing =) I get a lot of bass and "thump" and "oomph" from mine. Or then you've broken your phones.
@kebbun1 No EQ can fix the bass problem on these, because it will always mess up high freqencies, and bass will be loose. If you want similar sound to HD595 with more bass and overall much high quality, get the HD600.
@kebbun1 I'd say that HD600 has about 3 times the amount of bass that Hd595 has in terms of bass punch, and about 2 times in terms of sub bass, its also much clearer and detailed, and feels very tight.
whoah 3 times more bass you say. Looks like I have to upgrade this holiday. These 595 I have, its bass sounds like my $10 headphones when comparing the power of the low freq. LMAO
@kebbun1 Well yea, 3 times more is right i'd say. HD595 have virtually no bass punch and you can never feel it, with HD600 you can literally feel the bass punch and sub bass. BUT, you need proper amp to run HD600's. If you intend to use them out of ipod, cheap sound card or cheap portable amp, you better not buy them. You need a 300-400$ headphone amp at least to make them sound decent, and 700-800$ amp to make them work at their full potential.
what is the point in recording the sound of your headphones if anyway we are limited to your mic recording capabilities + sound data loss from compression + out own speakers/headphones?
you'd have to have a REALLY good mic, lossless format, and same/better quality speakers/headphones...
@sbhk1 Oh I'm sorry, I don't give a crap. This is a VIDEO. A video has visual content in addition to audio. The point of this video is the visual content in conjunction with the audio. I didn't make this video to highlight the audio quality of the headphones. I made this because I was bored.
QUESTION: I want a good pair of headphones (Mainly for GAMING) which is better... the HD600's or the HD595's? OR any other headphones that you may think are better for use mainly for gaming, I want great positional audio, clarity, and bass. Open ear preferred. Thanks :-)
PS: I will be using the ASUS Xonar ST soundcard, has prebuilt amp.
@1981z28camaro Ah, well then these headphones are phenomenal, just make sure you have high quality music, (FLAC, OGG) etc, don't use mp3s or it's a waste of money buying these headphones
@Kalywonkas I plan to start downloading FLACs whenever possible once I get the headphones, tho I do have a15,000 + music collection, and I don't think I will be replacing all of them anytime soon, lol
if I had high end headphones like these, would it make mp3's sound crappy, or would they just simply not sound any better than they already do?
@1981z28camaro It depends HUGELY on the quality of the encoding of the mp3 file and the nature of the music. Even some 320kbps mp3's are encoded poorly and the problems in the encoding can be heard. Then there are mp3s that are 128kbps but they sound just as good as FLAC. For example, I had a Daft Punk album in 320kbps mp3, but there was loud hissing in the backround all the time. But yeah, you can't go wrong with FLAC, although sometimes it's completely unnecessary waste of disk space.
@1981z28camaro Ran out of space there. Anyways, music with a lot of instruments and loud noises needs a higher bitrate than something more mellow. You can hear the instruments' sound "blur" if the bitrate or the encoding quality are too low. So basically, FLAC always sounds like it's supposed to sound like, but with mp3s it pretty much depends on your luck. Of course, scene releases are usually of very high quality, so you should be safe with those.
@Kepez ok so I guess what your saying is since the small sounds that you wouldn't normally hear would be much more pronounced with a high end pair of headphones, then you would hear all the sounds you wouldn't have heard before which may also include sounds you don't want to hear, like noise and whatnot, is that right?
@1981z28camaro No, mp3's would sound good, no doubt, but because of the compression you loose a lot of the music, as mentioned by Kepez. It's just that you could get the same quality sound out of mp3's from much cheaper headphones; you'd be wasting a lot of the potential of the headphones. To get the most out of them you would need flac or wav audio files.
While foam modding my HD555s a screw fell into the speaker, pushing in the thin plastic sort of layer in (because of the magnet on the other side), when I pulled it out, it went out to its previous state, the speaker sounds fine to me, but does anyone know if I might have damaged it? Just curious, it seems to sound just like the other speaker.
Question: is the cable at the headphone end terminated in a 3.5 mm jack (aka standard minijack)? Second question: what's the diametre of the hole inside the headphones (before it gets to the jack socket)? Because it looks like Sennheiser have unnecessarily made it of a certain size (and too small) instead of just leaving the jack socket open (i.e. not surrounded), so that any cable with ANY size sleeve can fit.
I have a nice QED cable, but the jack sleeve looks to be bigger than this will take.
@Ubervlad I had. 598's sound better than 595's. As the matter of fact, 558's sound better than 598's. Wider stage, much better bass and more detailed mids. They're also a bit louder and i think easier to drive even tho they're both 50 ohms. Modded 558's sounds exactly like 598, but with slightly punchier bass.
@mastorito7 ATH-M50 If you truly want an emphasis on both EQUALLY. Sennheiser 595 is best suited with playing music, and advanced listening environments. ATH-M50 has alot of bass which makes them easier to use when gaming, and provide a nice soundstage for certain genres of music such as rock, and electronica
could someone who is quite knowledgable in headphones please answer this! i need to know which is best for me bearing in mind that i need something with deep, punchy bass (i listen to a lot of rock, metal and drum and bass) : sennheiser hd 595, hd 600 or grado 125i. if there is any other type i shoulld look at please tell me!
@babyblueg4o9 They have the bigger stereo plug, but they do come with an adapter. Although it makes using the plug a bit clumsy if you're going to use them with an mp3 player.
@babyblueg4o9 And for the Bass ,they have a deep groove bass whit a quality so fine ,,,it's incredible ...but if you want something punchy you better go whit less quality and more noise cancelling device !!!
@celorwin I don't know, since I've never owned an mp3 player ;> When I'm out, I like to listen to the stuff going on around me, instead of listening to music.
@valleyvik44 dude, thats unbelievably stupid. dr dres are one of the most overpriced pieces of plastic shit out there on the market. they dont reproduce accurate frequencies and are sold as an image based product, AKA the people that buy them are buying into the look and social status.
my ex female companion was all about dre. She wanted those phones bad.
So you say they have bad quality? Well that fits, because Dre loves to mock his audience. The phones are just another extension of his distaste for the people who follow him.
@valleyvik44 your joking right? i tryed em three times, once from a friend, once at best buy, and at the seattle airport...and everytime they were garbage. Just because monster put a popular name and a big price tag on their product doesnt mean its top of the line. If u bought em u just got punked by a good marketing stragety
dont buy the 595's save your money and get the 555's. they are exactly the same besides a little foam piece that can be taken out. they are around 60 dollars cheaper also.
The Sennheiser USA internet site has an instructions PDF on how to remove the earpieces and replace the default cable. Just be careful to do exactly as the instructions tell you to do, or you might damage the soft earpieces.
are you asking without an amp yea but an amp will improve quality slightly not enough to invest in a rlly expensive one though cuz they have 50 ohm impedence which is quite low (some headphones have 500+ ohm impedence) the amout of power needed to make a proper sound
Do you know anywhere I can download instructions for how to take the 595s apart? Like to install new earpads and see the speaker like in your video? I'm not sure how to do it.
people say the the 555 are about 90% of the 595. I brought a refurbished 555 and i believe its an 120 impedance model. so it really need an headphone amp to drive this beast.
I have that in firefox, I can read russian, german spanish and much more :D eaven some arabic weird words so yeah install this plugin and you will understand ;)
No miepä vastaan siulle sitte suomeks. Kahotaan miten paljo tajuut mitä mä sanon siulle ku kirjotanki puhekieltä. Onko muka oikeesti nii vitun vaikia kirjottaa sitä enkkya jos kerra kaikki muutki sitä kirjottaa??
both the 555 and 595 are low impedance (50 Ohms), so computes will not have problem with coupling impedance (max power transfer), ie, you will not necessary need an amp to drive the transducer. However, the quality of your DAC (digital-to-analog converter) will greatly influence the quality of your listen, since these cans have a great sound fidelity, ie, you will clearly feel the difference between a bad and good DAC (conversely, think about recording a voice with a bad or a good microphone).
as loud as possible so that the speaker elements don't hit those plastic guards in front of them. it makes terribly loud clicking noise when the element hit the guards.
that fucking sucks man :/ why they do that guards ? I have the same thing in my headphones bayerdynamics dt 660 and when loud bass is played then I hear that clicking noise :/ so I see now that sennheiser have that annoying thing too. Its to bad because I love loud DEEP bass
Yepp they are fantastic :P Before these 595's I had two Philips headphones. The newer ones are SHP805. They are pretty good for ~40€ (2006) phones, but not nearly as good as the 595's are :P
Lol idk pick a few songs ranging from hip-hop-rock-jazz and so on :D I dont have any songs on my pc atm didn't save em before i formatted so idk you pick some :D. Cant think of any good ones at the moment to recommend. I'm sure you got some awesome songs to pick. These headphones are so wonderful :D cant wait to buy some one day. Hopefully after I sell windows vista and some other stuff ill have enough for these. BTW would I need an amp for my pc. I've got an x-fi sound card.
The 555's are great for their price, I got mine for about $80 on amazon and they out-perform nearly all the competition. Of course the 595's, which cost more than twice as much, will sound better. Some people report that the two sound similar when they're not fed by an amp; but the 595's pull far ahead when amped. My recommendation is to get 555's if your budget is tight; the 595's are better but it's a you get what you pay for kind of thing.
I have both 555 and 595 and they very similar in terms of audio performance, however, the highs on the 555 are better. It comes down to the extra money and the looks between the 555 and the 595 imho.
Most music / audio piece of equipment needs a period to sort of soften a bit and generate its full potential. The membrane you see moving in this video will be more flexible after a "burn-in" period.
That would work. There are different processes to achieve the desired result. This is not an exact science and as such you'll find different opinions on which method is best. Some'll just play their favorite music with the hope it'll shape their cans to their liking. Others will do the same but let the cans sit for 100H before even giving them a try. Then there are those who'll play white noise (which is a sound containing all sound frequencies humans can hear) to achieve a balanced "burn-in"...

@Kepez You are thinking a tad too technical, audio is mainly subjective. Tech specs sadly don't tell the entire story, driver speed, sound detail, soundstaging, comfort, clarity, etc. There are many factors you don't see that affect the performance that aren't in the specs themselves. Through specs you won't be able to tell any of these things. The best way to tell the difference in performance is actually testing them for yourself (I'd type more but i don't have enough room)

@Ubervlad
The HD 598 seems to be identical to the HD 595 other than the design itself. The technical specifications are exactly the same.
BrianDickens4 1 year ago
@Ubervlad I don't even think those are out yet in the US.
shipleyshipster 1 year ago
@Ubervlad I bought a pair of the HD 598's. Their so sexy.
Papiforlife 1 year ago
@Ubervlad I had. 598's sound better than 595's. As the matter of fact, 558's sound better than 598's. Wider stage, much better bass and more detailed mids. They're also a bit louder and i think easier to drive even tho they're both 50 ohms. Modded 558's sounds exactly like 598, but with slightly punchier bass.

Listening to this on my sennheiser hd 555s it sounds nothing like it :P

Audio-Technica ATH-M50 or Sennheiser 595?
Mainly for music but also for gaming.
Honestly!
mastorito7 1 year ago

Hey can you plug this into iPhones and mp3 players? Or does have one of those bigger jacks that goes into an amp?
babyblueg4o9 1 year ago
@babyblueg4o9 They have the bigger stereo plug, but they do come with an adapter. Although it makes using the plug a bit clumsy if you're going to use them with an mp3 player.
Kepez 1 year ago
@babyblueg4o9 Yes you can ,it come whit the adaptor for 3.5mm jack !!!
CH3ST3RF1ELD 1 year ago
@babyblueg4o9 And for the Bass ,they have a deep groove bass whit a quality so fine ,,,it's incredible ...but if you want something punchy you better go whit less quality and more noise cancelling device !!!
CH3ST3RF1ELD 1 year ago
I got im. The bas is like it should, not too hard and not to soft.

HOOOO MY GOOOOOD ,,,i've receive mine yesterday and the sound quality its so awsome ,,,i cant not beleive it !!!!

Hows the bass?
I listen to a lot of metal (all of it) and techno/electonica/house... so i love my audio!
Im thinking about buying a pair.
Home much battery love does it such out of the mp3 player?
celorwin 1 year ago
@celorwin I don't know, since I've never owned an mp3 player ;> When I'm out, I like to listen to the stuff going on around me, instead of listening to music.
Kepez 1 year ago
@celorwin Oh, and bass. There's a lot if you play around with your EQ settings. Very little bass with a flat EQ.
Kepez 1 year ago
Impressive. I'm thinking of getting myself some of these.
Raptor015 1 year ago
I disagree big time whit this ,,dr. dre need batterie to operate and in technicalities its not worth a dime !!!!
Its just a headphone that said "look at me ,im fresh !!!"
CH3ST3RF1ELD 2 years ago
You took the words straight from my mouth.
It's similar to Bose's selling gimmicks.
For those who purchased Dr.Dre's Monster Beats or Bose headphones, you aren't paying for quality folks.

raunky 2 years ago
@valleyvik44 dude, thats unbelievably stupid. dr dres are one of the most overpriced pieces of plastic shit out there on the market. they dont reproduce accurate frequencies and are sold as an image based product, AKA the people that buy them are buying into the look and social status.
carlos1234567898765 2 years ago 66
I agree whit you 100% dude !!!
CH3ST3RF1ELD 2 years ago 2
my ex female companion was all about dre. She wanted those phones bad.
So you say they have bad quality? Well that fits, because Dre loves to mock his audience. The phones are just another extension of his distaste for the people who follow him.
MovingUpp 1 year ago
@carlos1234567898765 totally agree - overpriced piece of plastic SHIT. at least its better than bose LOL
But for serious headphones , sennheiser, akg, grado, beyerdynamic, shure, etc.

ComicalFerret 2 years ago 2
lol bull you probly just have the 555s and are sad :D theres a noticeable difference actually and plus build quality pretty big difference
turlesRfun 2 years ago
Hmm you just made me order 595's, lol! I hope they're as good as you say!!!
Orangetree991 2 years ago
I got the 595s too. How did you take the cloth off the earpiece and can you put it back without damage?
jpickles 2 years ago
The Sennheiser USA internet site has an instructions PDF on how to remove the earpieces and replace the default cable. Just be careful to do exactly as the instructions tell you to do, or you might damage the soft earpieces.
Kepez 2 years ago
can u listen to ur ipod with them
nickypicky415 2 years ago
I don't have an ipod. Or any other mobile mp3 player. When I'm out I prefer to listen to the sounds of my surroundings.
Kepez 2 years ago
are you asking without an amp yea but an amp will improve quality slightly not enough to invest in a rlly expensive one though cuz they have 50 ohm impedence which is quite low (some headphones have 500+ ohm impedence) the amout of power needed to make a proper sound
turlesRfun 2 years ago
are these headphones worth the money

Do you know anywhere I can download instructions for how to take the 595s apart? Like to install new earpads and see the speaker like in your video? I'm not sure how to do it.
phototristan 2 years ago
On the sennheiser home page.
Kepez 2 years ago
people say the the 555 are about 90% of the 595. I brought a refurbished 555 and i believe its an 120 impedance model. so it really need an headphone amp to drive this beast.
qichenzeng1 2 years ago
very good video showing how drives works in that specific headphones model. Great job

hey mami, you sexi
Lbuzzard 2 years ago
both the 555 and 595 are low impedance (50 Ohms), so computes will not have problem with coupling impedance (max power transfer), ie, you will not necessary need an amp to drive the transducer. However, the quality of your DAC (digital-to-analog converter) will greatly influence the quality of your listen, since these cans have a great sound fidelity, ie, you will clearly feel the difference between a bad and good DAC (conversely, think about recording a voice with a bad or a good microphone).
laobrasuca 2 years ago
whats the difference to the hd 555?
Maxi5th 2 years ago
Well obviously the 595's are a little better. But how should I know, I haven't listened to the 555's. Google it.
Kepez 2 years ago
595s provide better bass response and clarity in the higher frequencies but the 555s are excellent intro cans to hifi.
noodleninjaa 2 years ago
595 have BETTER bass :D , lower and deeper ;]
lukaszpro1993 2 years ago
the hd555s have a piece of foam glued inside that cover half of the vents. This is the only difference
debiaptget 2 years ago
man they are loud what volume do you have them on?
bimbotramsan 2 years ago
as loud as possible so that the speaker elements don't hit those plastic guards in front of them. it makes terribly loud clicking noise when the element hit the guards.
Kepez 2 years ago
ok well are you able to listen with them on you when they are so loud?
lillen300 2 years ago
Yes I am. Although I'm sure it's not good for your hearing to do that :D They are VERY loud when listening on that volume.
Kepez 2 years ago
that fucking sucks man :/ why they do that guards ? I have the same thing in my headphones bayerdynamics dt 660 and when loud bass is played then I hear that clicking noise :/ so I see now that sennheiser have that annoying thing too. Its to bad because I love loud DEEP bass
7BeAsT9 2 years ago
I can only imagine how good these sound in real life :D... wanna know my headphones I use everyday lol (panasonic rp-hs43) Yea pretty sad lol
Wolfyz1 2 years ago
Yepp they are fantastic :P Before these 595's I had two Philips headphones. The newer ones are SHP805. They are pretty good for ~40€ (2006) phones, but not nearly as good as the 595's are :P
Kepez 2 years ago
You should make another video :D of these
Wolfyz1 2 years ago
Any suggestions for the songs to be played? :D
Kepez 2 years ago
Lol idk pick a few songs ranging from hip-hop-rock-jazz and so on :D I dont have any songs on my pc atm didn't save em before i formatted so idk you pick some :D. Cant think of any good ones at the moment to recommend. I'm sure you got some awesome songs to pick. These headphones are so wonderful :D cant wait to buy some one day. Hopefully after I sell windows vista and some other stuff ill have enough for these. BTW would I need an amp for my pc. I've got an x-fi sound card.
Wolfyz1 2 years ago
Nope, you don't need an amp, although it WILL make them sound even better ^^
Kepez 2 years ago
for hd 595, i think no need... but with amp will be better, more bassy lol!.
jonathankhim 2 years ago
i would recommend ( Not exactly - Deadmau5 ).. got alottta bass !!

kind of luckilly got them for 70 quid.. still cant believe it.
GranulatedStuff 2 years ago
hehe, not a bad price for such a nice pair of headphones, huh? ;p
Kepez 2 years ago
Your taste in music sucks.
2gigabit 3 years ago
I chose these songs because they have a lot of bass. I don't really like either of them that much.
Oh and by the way, these kinds of things can't be argued, since we all have different tastes and like different things.
Kepez 3 years ago
Whoah!!!
Look at the bass thumping on that thing!
My Pioneer SE MJ2 never did those dome thumping even if i cranked up my volume.
I'll get the HD555, a lot cheaper than the HD595. But I guess they have the same driver so i might expect the same bass thumping.
Thanks for this vid.
Androgenies 3 years ago 2
From what I've heard and read, the 555's suck. I'd recommend getting the 595's or something even better ;>
Kepez 3 years ago
The 555's are great for their price, I got mine for about $80 on amazon and they out-perform nearly all the competition. Of course the 595's, which cost more than twice as much, will sound better. Some people report that the two sound similar when they're not fed by an amp; but the 595's pull far ahead when amped. My recommendation is to get 555's if your budget is tight; the 595's are better but it's a you get what you pay for kind of thing.
insaneazn13 2 years ago
I have both 555 and 595 and they very similar in terms of audio performance, however, the highs on the 555 are better. It comes down to the extra money and the looks between the 555 and the 595 imho.
BOTH SOUND GREAT THOUGH!
p7811fx 3 years ago
you should have gone for the audio technica ath ad 700's
mine should be in the mail by friday
RespectMyGangsterism 3 years ago
They seem to be quite a bit more expensive than my Sennheiser's are. But congrats on your new headphones ;>
Remember to "play them in" before listening to them with too much volume. About 48-60 hours should do it.
Kepez 3 years ago
Thanks. I always want to blow my birthday money when I get it.
And what do you mean "Play Them In"?
RespectMyGangsterism 3 years ago
Most music / audio piece of equipment needs a period to sort of soften a bit and generate its full potential. The membrane you see moving in this video will be more flexible after a "burn-in" period.
grrrroink 3 years ago
And how exactly would i "Burn them in" do i just listen to them like normal and they just get better?
RespectMyGangsterism 3 years ago
That would work. There are different processes to achieve the desired result. This is not an exact science and as such you'll find different opinions on which method is best. Some'll just play their favorite music with the hope it'll shape their cans to their liking. Others will do the same but let the cans sit for 100H before even giving them a try. Then there are those who'll play white noise (which is a sound containing all sound frequencies humans can hear) to achieve a balanced "burn-in"...
grrrroink 3 years ago
is this hd 595 good for gaming?
like "first person shooter"?
