The CIA has long been screwing around in Tibet and Xinjiang trying to destablize the region in hopes of destabilizing China so they can keep China under their thumb for another hundred years. Because a stable and prosperous China is good for this volatile region and the world as a whole.

People have their daily freedoms just like in Canada and the US...oh wait, but they can't vote. Big deal! Chinese are getting rich (albeit some more than others) and are doing things they never thought possible ie buying goods, travelling, going to University. The biggest problem plaguing China is not implementing a democracy, it's addressing economic disparity and perhaps corruption; and they are dealing with it.

If you want to see freedom of expression then all you have to see is Dashanzi, 798 art district in Beijing. Another example, just look at the CRI English website. They report all sorts of news regarding China and it's not positive fluff pieces, negative stories too.

Personally I fail to see how my opportunity to vote every few years (btw half the people don't even bother to vote) makes me better off than the Chinese. What's far more important is that the government in power takes the concerns of the country to heart.
In fact China's model is better off in many ways. Western democracy means that the govt always has to worry about buying votes...very wasteful.

If you want to see freedom of expression then all you have to see is Dashanzi, 798 art district in Beijing. Another example, just look at the CRI English website. They report all sorts of news regarding China and it's not positive fluff pieces, negative stories too.
