I did some research and it scientist say that lobsters don't feel pain when they are put in situations like this. People confuse their reactions to boiling water as suffering. Really it's just their muscles contracting to the stimulus. Idk if it's true but it makes watching these videos a little less sad.

Lobster can be killed with a knife through the head. No need at all for live grilling. Inhumane. No need for freezers to do it right.

The "front" one is where most would expect the "brain" to be... have a look at the related video to the right "how to kill a giant lobster 15 pounds" (see watch?v=iwlSpTr-zEE if that doesn't show up for you) to see a "knife through the head" cut that does far more than just take out the frontal ganglion (which is just behind the eyes).
IIRC correctly such a cut would sever around 6 ganglia and, angling backwards or a second cut, would also cut the heart.

I half suspect that the side that says they don't feel pain (or at least, not the way we do) might be right, but something about live cooking doesn't sit right with me. If there's even a chance they feel pain I'd be happier not live cooking.
My take on it works on the assumption they do and working around that. So cut the whole head in half first. It'll still move, but I think that's just reflexes, not pain.

@spasiboalisher Lobsters dont have the part of there brain that feels pain, they can feel pressure and warmth. Also, they were dead, the reason they moved was steam that built up in the shell, it built up and moved the arm, thats why it looked like it was moving.
It basically comes down to what type of person you are. I hunt and fish and have my own Sheep and Cows i also dive. I kill them myself, but one thing i always make sure is that i kill them quickly and as humanely as possible. At the end of the day what is the point of causing uneccesary stress to any creature? It doesn't make it taste better, infact it is the total opposite. Stressing any creature before cooking or killing makes for a less tender product. So please enjoy your squirming food.

I did some research and it scientist say that lobsters don't feel pain when they are put in situations like this. People confuse their reactions to boiling water as suffering. Really it's just their muscles contracting to the stimulus. Idk if it's true but it makes watching these videos a little less sad.

I don't now if lobsters feel pain they way we do. One expert is saying they feel pain, and a other is saying they don't feel pain. Although I think its more humane to kill the lobsters first. So they don't feel the pain on of the grill. Animals deserve to treat with respect. I don't eat seafood, but if you do, please treat the animal humane and with respect when you kill it. @redresch I'm no cry-baby... 2 weeks today I'll be on day two of a three week road trip where I'll feed myself by spearfishing - hopefully going for Bass, Mullet, Pollack, Flatties and the like - and going for crab and lobster with a home built trap too.
So the thrust of my comment comes from a person who's comfortable with the fact something dies for us to eat:
Lobster can be killed with a knife through the head. No need at all for live grilling. Inhumane. No need for freezers to do it right.

The "front" one is where most would expect the "brain" to be... have a look at the related video to the right "how to kill a giant lobster 15 pounds" (see watch?v=iwlSpTr-zEE if that doesn't show up for you) to see a "knife through the head" cut that does far more than just take out the frontal ganglion (which is just behind the eyes).
IIRC correctly such a cut would sever around 6 ganglia and, angling backwards or a second cut, would also cut the heart.

I half suspect that the side that says they don't feel pain (or at least, not the way we do) might be right, but something about live cooking doesn't sit right with me. If there's even a chance they feel pain I'd be happier not live cooking.
My take on it works on the assumption they do and working around that. So cut the whole head in half first. It'll still move, but I think that's just reflexes, not pain.

Contrary to your deterministic notion, humans are omnivores with the capacity to choose whether or not to eat meat, at least for those who aren't in impoverished, minimal conditions that you allude to. It basically comes down to what type of person you are. I hunt and fish and have my own Sheep and Cows i also dive. I kill them myself, but one thing i always make sure is that i kill them quickly and as humanely as possible. At the end of the day what is the point of causing uneccesary stress to any creature? It doesn't make it taste better, infact it is the total opposite. Stressing any creature before cooking or killing makes for a less tender product. So please enjoy your squirming food.
