You guys in the US need to stand up and demand they use an Australian company with a 100% biodegradeable solution in cleaning this up! The company is called Enretech and they have a product that called cellusorb,it will cling to the oil and then the microbes in the mix break it down.It can be buried and it will break it down or can be burnt to produce fuel.Take the time to look it up and then demand its use!
How is Obama to blame for the oil industry policies of Bush/Cheney regime? Which in fact led up to this disaster. Some of the ideas to clean up and stop the underwater geyser are great on paper and in theory but in practical application most are totally ineffective. But I guess it never hurts to try.

A 54cm risser pipe can be covered by 100cm pipe then the oil fills the pipe all the way to the surface. I have heard of 100 foot sections of pipe that would take aprox 46 welds even at 5 hrs a weld more like an hour would do. Less than two days and you have oil at the surface filling oil tankers.

you are kidding right? the oil will just clog the pump..and oil is not just liquid... there are solids as well... plus the oil is coming out from all directions not just one so there is no point in making a directional pump. plus the size of that on a 1/1 scale is going to take forever to build.

Your clever plan has a minor flaw. Hydrate formation. Once cold seawater mixes with the oil leak, an icy substance will form and coat your mechanism and piping. I don't think you could provide sufficient heating or inhibitors to prevent this. Kudos for brainstorming though!

- You would need to build (in a reasonable amount of time) and power this thing from the surface
- This is really just a band-aid to gather (hopefully) the oil. This is not a fix to the spill itself and may actually impede resolving the spill itself.
By the time something like this could be manufactured, brought on-site, and installed I would imagine the spill/leak would be otherwise resolved . The similar solutions were viable because they were simple concrete structures.
the easy way to stop the leak is by ocean anchor points, leverage and a stopper oh and the wench, just pull the stopper into the well 4 anchor points like a box around the pipe, wrench down on the exposed pipe... we could do it with the rovs
By the way- the blow out preventer is empty! Due to lower the costs, critical security application devices were not built into the blow out preventer. Its just an empty nutshell- as long as nothing happens- nobody will ever know, that you did not get, what you paid for.
Blowout preventer should be picked up and investigated at. Responsible persons should be sued for long term jail- regardlessly wether they are top manager or engineers.
Would be much easier to drill a second pipe some feet away from first blow out drill. Depth about 100 feet adn filled with explosive charges brought to detonation.
Pressure shochwave of explosion would crush the main drilling immediately and stop further oil spill immediately.
A parallel drilling for explosive device could be done in a few days including the shut off explosion.

I would think that and attempt at a gravitational sealing using explosives would fracture the substrate and exponentialy expand the leak. At this time the wont to cut of the top of the well casing. if the do the need to build a large heavey Plastic Slam Plug. They can use the drill string as the weight to slam the Plug into the top of the well. Once the plug seal's the flow of oil. they need toleave the heavy pipe on the plug. hook up to the BOP again and pump the kill mud to be Able to cement the well up. they should drill a couple holes through the end of the pipe and leave the drill bits inside the pipe so that they form a cross inside the pipe. Then debris would have a much better chance of getting clogged up.

a bit over my head. I know how Here's something, I live down here and know how much wake just two jet skis make circling me~~ wake travelling inward. Now imaging large boats, a many miles long floatilla of them, encircling the spill, their wak pushing oil inward. When one boat need to refuel, others would be waiting to take their place. They could keep this going for months while clean up continues within.

This will not work the deeper you go into the water the greater the pressure, not only that it also has to go through testing which is also difficult.
The underwaterfootage shows that de pipe is horizontal. That makes it hard to fit the "bottle"over the leek. And what if it works.... Should BP leave it like that?

Thank you for this video. My concern? Heating the waters will instantly kill the fish and mammals in temperature affected areas. The animals in the ocean are already suffering and dying, so adding in temperature to the waters will put ever more strain on the ecology. Is it possible to thermoseal the instrument so that the heat will not escape the system into the unaffected waters?

the easy way to stop the leak is by ocean anchor points, leverage and a stopper oh and the wench, just pull the stopper into the well 4 anchor points like a box around the pipe, wrench down on the exposed pipe... we could do it with the rovs

By the way- the blow out preventer is empty! Due to lower the costs, critical security application devices were not built into the blow out preventer. Its just an empty nutshell- as long as nothing happens- nobody will ever know, that you did not get, what you paid for.
Blowout preventer should be picked up and investigated at. Responsible persons should be sued for long term jail- regardlessly wether they are top manager or engineers.

Would be much easier to drill a second pipe some feet away from first blow out drill. Depth about 100 feet adn filled with explosive charges brought to detonation.
Pressure shochwave of explosion would crush the main drilling immediately and stop further oil spill immediately.
A parallel drilling for explosive device could be done in a few days including the shut off explosion.
Easiest thing to do.

@Thaurus1969 Not knowing what the substrate is, explosive resolution is 'iffy'. I would think that and attempt at a gravitational sealing using explosives would fracture the substrate and exponentialy expand the leak. BP COULD plug it, but I don't think they want to lose the source in it's entirety. Money comes before enviromentalism. Just my opinion. Kind regards.

At this time the wont to cut of the top of the well casing. if the do the need to build a large heavey Plastic Slam Plug. They can use the drill string as the weight to slam the Plug into the top of the well. Once the plug seal's the flow of oil. they need toleave the heavy pipe on the plug. hook up to the BOP again and pump the kill mud to be Able to cement the well up. they should drill a couple holes through the end of the pipe and leave the drill bits inside the pipe so that they form a cross inside the pipe. Then debris would have a much better chance of getting clogged up.

I say drill hole.in the valve then inject Honda Driver side airbag and 10 gallons of super glue. then fix the replace the pipe on the top of the valve with new one,, attach the new pipe to new rig

a bit over my head. I know how Here's something, I live down here and know how much wake just two jet skis make circling me~~ wake travelling inward. Now imaging large boats, a many miles long floatilla of them, encircling the spill, their wak pushing oil inward. When one boat need to refuel, others would be waiting to take their place. They could keep this going for months while clean up continues within.

Could one clamp a large rubber bladder on to the pipe? A valve could be placed on the bladder to collect the oil.

This will not work the deeper you go into the water the greater the pressure, not only that it also has to go through testing which is also difficult.

The underwaterfootage shows that de pipe is horizontal. That makes it hard to fit the "bottle"over the leek. And what if it works.... Should BP leave it like that?
Why not squeeze the pipe until it is flat? After that the pipe can be closed permanently

Thank you for this video. My concern? Heating the waters will instantly kill the fish and mammals in temperature affected areas. The animals in the ocean are already suffering and dying, so adding in temperature to the waters will put ever more strain on the ecology. Is it possible to thermoseal the instrument so that the heat will not escape the system into the unaffected waters?

you can't just pump cement because the pressure inside and outside the pipe opening need to balance for the flow to stop.
water pressure at depth = x
pipe pressure = y
differential = z
if z = 0 flow stops.
to pressure up the dome, they would have to seal it to the ocean floor.

I think British Petroleum should pour a small mountain of cement over the leak. Then pay the fishermen, the same price per pound that they sell their seafood, to scoop up the oil with tools and resources provided by BP.
