  • I was 18 in 66 and this song blew me away then and sill does to this day!

  • Probably the only cool thing Milton Berle ever did.

  • "May the Yardbirds of Paradise fly up your nose",...Milton Berle introducing the Yardbirds on this show

  • I think Jimmy Page played the solo on this song because there is a video on youtube where he plays the solo live

  • @superjohn1658 --Of course Page played it all live after Beck was gone, but this track is the original studio version with the "dueling guitars". I finally found a documentary where Yardbirds members mention Page doing the "police siren" and Beck "mumbling something during his solo" which would be the one at 1:33. It would make sense, because Beck was "first guitar" at that time, and Page was the "new guy". Too bad they didn't record more with this lineup.

  • I saw this on tv when I was 7 ! In 1966 that psychodelic sound/style was new. .

  • Jimmy Page..................... :)

  • who is the black guy's voice in the background? and what is he saying.

  • @Aliendear --The "black guy" is Jeff Beck. And you have to guess what he's saying because....it's psychedelic, man.....I've never been completely sure that's him doing the lead break at 1:33, but I think so. Does anyone have it from a reliable source who played that part?

  • Jimmy had this up on his website yesterday. We don't get to see too much of Beck in this clip.....but Jimmy is great. Love the Yardbirds.

  • And going by the album sleeve, John Paul-Jones played bass on this song in the studio. Paul Samwell-Smith was leaving the Yardbirds when this album was laid down.

  • When they lost Paul Samwell-Smith (bass player) they lost a lot of ttheir song writing talent.

  • I saw this episode of the Milton Berle show when it first aired in 1966. I was 12 years old! Went out and bougnt the record the next day.

  • Beck and Page playing dual lead guitar sounds like a match made in music heaven. Unfortunately it didn't last long. Beck grew rather unreliable and temperamental (according to some sources) and I suppose having two such great talents (and egos) battling on stage and record was bound to be problematic. But it was good while it lasted.

  • This must have been the tour in which Beck skipped out on the group.

  • how dose jimmy make the guitar sound like a syron??

  • Interesting...LIP-SYNC'D to the record the whole way. Dreja on Bass. So this is 'transitional'. Page came in on Bass when Samwell-Smith quit...Page moved shortly there after to guitar simultaneously with Beck (what we see here)...then Beck left and they went on for a brief period as the four of them (same band you see here less Beck). That's where all those live French videos come into play. They are on Youtube for viewing. Thanks Mark!!!!

  • Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page. Gasp ! Gasp ! I need air !

  • Amazing, this psychadelic song - on the Milton Berle show, of all the places! I had no idea they were ever on this show. I wonder what their experience of being there was.

  • In the latter half of 1966, the rock/pop scene was exploding with new sounds as the psychedelic revolution was taking over, and THIS was one of the songs leading the charge ! An exciting time captured in possibly the Yardbirds greatest single ! Thanks for the upload

  • @TrappedIn1968 Couldn't agree more mate. This was the first Psychedelic event for me....i'd keep trying to tune into all the rock stations on the tranny to perhaps get to hear this classic when nI was studying for exams so many years ago. Then along came Hendrix too......and Eight Miles High.....oh the memories.

  • That's gonna be the only "live" version with both Beck and Page on Happenings... Beck and Page only recorded two songs together with the Yardbirds and only one song where both Beck and Page played guitar. The other song, Psycho Daisies, featured Page on bass. They also teamed up once more when recording Becks Bolero. But that was outside the Yardbirds.

  • jeff Beck and Jimmy Page forever!!

  • This is one of my fave videos and songs of the great Yardbirds!

  • Obviously we are deep in your debt for this rarity,

    fascinating!

    wordofgord
