In regards to the flute situation- as we all know, brass are not easily overpowered by woodwinds. but i believe and have reached a consensus on this with many that once you have a certain number of brass instruments in an ensemble, there is no number of woodwinds that could be heard over the brass. We refer to this as the breaking point affect. there would be no point of having flutes in this band. do you even hear saxophone as it is? lol. all i hear is trumpet, mello, baritone, and sousa.

@meggerrrzzzz As an OU 110 Marching alumnus, thank you. From an historic perspective, in 1967, OU's MB used the Spartan MB as a model in it's change from what it was prior. From those early days of that style, they of course evolved over the decades as has the Spartan band. Both very good bands. Best wishes to the Spartans in the Big 10 Championship game and to the Bobcats in Detroit Friday in the MAC championship game. Here's to excellence.

Same team name though, but i'm in high school band (One of the few Junior members).Well i can say the same about people not walking through the bleachers, but i've never heard of a band being told to sit down, my director always had us stand with our hands folded in front of us, behind us, or with our arms to our sides, while watching the performance. They DID do a great job though, and it would be a privilege to be part of this band.
