@thinggybob I was told by a breeder to let the bird only hear one person talking, no other birds or people, and to repeat one word or short phrase over and over every day until the bird begins to say it. If they are young when you get them, they will think of this as their "song" and begin to sing it to you. After the first phrase is learned, begin another. Once the bird is repeating well, you can let other people speak to it and it will incorporate what they say into the song.

Doc is so cute and very smart and talanted.i wish he could have lived longer so he could br with ruby and they could be best budds. poor doc. well at least he is in heaven probably chittering with all the other parakeets in heaven.

Janice, he's adorable! I had no idea Ruby had a predecessor. Isn't it great you found those pics and the tape!! Always remember that anything that we have loved and that has loved us will be with us again when we pass on! There is a group of people who train their budgie's to talk and he sounded very clear like some of them. It's the reason why I named my quaker Ryan :P. Parakeets have amazing abilities to repeat a lot of things! My Quaker is hilarious when he imitates us. You never know what he's gonna pick up next :P.
