  • the singer is valerie carter

  • mirandazar: Yep, Valarie Carter. Great voice.

  • RICHIE!!!!

  • judgecal23: Thanks for watching the video.

  • Why did Valerie fade away?

  • okrabay: That's a good question. She has an amazing voice. She might be doing back up singer work.....I don't know, I am just guessing.

  • Good question. She did tour singing back-up for James Taylor. Maybe because Lowell George died and could not produce her albulms. Her voice is incredible, it just sparkles. It gives me goosebumps listening to this song.

  • Beautiful, emotional song. Heard it when I saw "Over The Edge" (A great movie; If you were a kid in the late 70's, you know what I mean!); Great voice Valerie!!

  • JoeyPNB: Thank you for your kind comments. That's where I first heard the song and loved it every since. Valerie's version of the song is as you said very beautiful and emotional. Thanks again for watching and commenting.

  • I too first heard this in the same film. Still have the movie on a very worn and battered VHS. :o)

Beautiful song and beautiful version. :)

  • Scarletbegonias811: Thanks for watching and for your comments.

  • does anyone think that one of the girls looks like Angelina Jolie?

  • nlynch34: No, I don't see that.

  • Over the Edge was directed by Jonathan Kaplan. It was based on "true" events of bored and rebellious teens in Foster City, CA but the movie was set in Colorado. Matt Dillon's first movie. Best part of the movie was this song at the end.

  • You are So RIGHT! FFC lied to me, shame on him... LOL

  • I remember when I first saw the movie, Over the Edge, I loved the movie and the song was the best part!!

  • To Vc620.....NO, Thank you once again! It's in my Favorites and I watch it over & over& over....etc. You are so kind to respond to my and other's messages when you are most likely busy making exceptional videos ... You sure have great imagination & talent we all appreciate!!!! KEEP ROCKIN'...We Love it obviously!

  • Good Lord....I think it's "Coppola.....well anyway...Francis Ford C******??? (whatever,Ha,Ha)

Just let's thank Vc620 for finding this exceptional version of "OOH CHILD".....Kudos!!

  • DointimeonEarth: Thanks much for your comments and thanks also for your kind response to Edinah.

  • I meant '79 not '70.....now who's stupid? LOL

  • people, ignore my previous (stupid) comment

  • is this the actual video or is this from a movie and if so which one?

  • No...it's from Over the Edge by Francis Cappola made in '70 or'80. It's the end when they role the credits and Vc620 was smart and kind enough to find it and also put it to a movie I'm just dying to see! Also NO! your comment is NOT stupid!!!!!

  • Stone's Throw Away was her first record > THEN she recorded

"Wild Child". Amazing vocalist and interpreter.

  • yankeemedic: Thanks for the info. I agree with you that she is an amazing vocalist.

  • this song is featured on the great teen film "Over the Edge" 1980.

  • Valerie Carter is simply one of the most amazingly talented singers of my lifetime. She, along with Kate Bush and Joni Mitchell, posess a very accurate map of my heart.

  • PancakeTartare: Thanks for your comments.....I agree with you.

  • I love this version of the song too!! I remember hearing it from the movie Over the Edge and thinking it was fantastic, the artist's name is Valerie Carter, anyone know more about her?

  • nlynch34: Thanks for watching and for your comments. I don't know much about her, I think she was more of a backup singer. She is featured on a couple of Jack Wagner's songs from the 80's one being 'Love can take us all the way' - I am not really a JW fan but that song featuring Valerie Carter was GREAT.

  • Thanks VC620 for the info.

  • Great voice! Good looker, too! She was Jackson Browne's backup singer during the 70's, moved on to James Taylor's tour. She can be seen on their DVD's.

  • Oh wow, thanks alot... Ive been wanting to know more about her.

  • I bought V.C.'s album from a remainders bin when I was 10 years old...been playing it ever since. This vid rocks...and throbs....I'll be back, again and again, just like I go back to Just A Stone's Throw Away....thank you.

  • iaminthburg: Thanks for your nice post....I appreciate your comments greatly. They made me smile. I still play my cd all the time and ooh child is my fave. Thanks again.

  • That's what matters, yeah?? That we listen and feel and smile...not together, but in common. People are people are people, and we can all relate to something or someone. We can all smile. How about Ringing Doorbell in the Rain?

  • Dear Vc620........I'm back and still listening and still grateful for this truly great post. You and Miss Carter rock. 2-17-09

  • iaminthburg: Welcome back!!! Thanks for watching and commenting. I am so glad you are enjoying the video and the music.

  • THX for this song! I love it :)

  • Loolalaola: Thanks for watching.

  • Thanks for posting this. In my opinion it's better than the original; sadder, more soulful, hurts me more than the 5 Stairsteps version, less upbeat. Have you seen Over the Edge from '78? That's where I first heard it; didn't know at the time it was a cover

  • rolandthethompsongun: H,thank you so very much for your kind comments. I agree with you that this version is better than the original because of the singers beautiful soulful voice and of course because of the song lyrics. I saw "Over the Edge" years ago and this is where I first heard this version of the song. Thanks for viewing it and commenting. I appreciate it greatly.

  • laynasor: Thank you for your kind comments. I agree with you....the song is GREAT.

  • This is such an excellent tune! The Album: Just a stones throw away, is just as awesome!!!!!

  • northbelfast1: Thank you very much for your comments and thanks for watching.....Yes, I agree the album is awesome.

  • yeah i first heard this version while watching over the edge on cable in 1982. hunted the dvd down when it first came out.stairsteps version is cool in boys n the hood but i like the vc version the best in over the edge.

  • columbokicksass: Hi, during a very sad time in my life in 1994, I can remember sitting in a movie theater watching Spike Lee's film "Crooklyn" and basically crying throughout the movie and when Ooh Child was played by the Five Stairsteps that just made me cry even more. It's a beautiful song no matter who sings it.

  • i agree. i have a version of the 5stairsteps somewhere because i couldn't find this one.

  • columbokicksassz: Thank you for your nice comment, I appreciate your kind words and for viewing the MV.

  • Great video. If you haven't heard Nina Simone's version of this song, you should.

  • unprofessionl: I d/l her version and it sounds good, NS has a smooth voice. I loved Valerie Carter's version from the moment I heard it years ago in the movie "Over the Edge".

  • P.S. After hearing VC's version again here, I downloaded it.

  • unprofessionl: Thank you so very much for watching the MV and I glad you enjoyed it. I appreciate your comments greatly.
