Oh yeah, one more thing, HE HAS A MUSLIM NAME - I mean, are you guys crazy? Btw, I'm not convinced he's a Muslim, but I do know that he is a baldfaced liar and that the only church he ever claimed membership in is a very politicized environment, so it's entirely plausible that his on and off again involvement there was not spiritually motivated. Obama can't have it both ways - and he's just starting to figure that out. Once again, hat's off to Cenk for delivering the guest their 'happy ending'.
How about a fact based discussion? Obama's Dad was muslim, so in the eyes of all muslims globally, he is a muslim (Cenk should know this). He was not raised a Christian - by his own admission. And he has actually banned using the term Jihad or Islamic fundamentalism as driving Muslim terror. By his own admission, while he belonged to a church in chicago, he rarely went. So, really, given all of this, it isn't crazy to suspect. It may be wrong, but not crazy.
@glennd7962 Obama is an atheist who realized it would be next to impossible to get an atheist elected. There have been polls that state that 75% of americans would not vote for an openly atheist president. His belief and the shadowy nature of it is all a political ploy.
My father is catholic, does that make me automatically a catholic?
@ILikeTheThingsIDo - In Islam, it actually does automatically make one Muslim if one's father is Muslim. In Christianity, it usually requires a baptism and maybe other sacraments to actually be Christian, it has nothing to do with one's parents religion. Judaism is the same, it is inherited from the Mother - the father's religion is irrelevant. But you apparently don't know shit from shinola, do you? I'm an atheist, btw and I'm not sure what obama is. But it's not crazy to wonder.
@glennd7962 Ok, so to muslims he is technically a muslim, whatever. Practice is more important to belief.

@glennd7962 -No it doesn't , Islam is a belief like Christianity or Judaism , You can convert or Practice any belief that you want , Remember, Islam is a Belief not a Race.....
@ILikeTheThingsIDo I'm kind of curious as to why you are so sure Obama is an atheist. Maybe he doesn't believe in a personal God, or is one of those people who simply "believes in belief," but that doesn't mean he considers himself an "atheist."
@writersblock26 It's entirely possible. I'm nothing if not flexible. The whole point is he is not the most devout person. An open deist would likely have issues getting elected too; it's something that would be covered up.
@aarondavid826 Agreed, but I won't go along with calling the folks who question his identity and values crazy when in fact we've been presented a background on Obama along the following lines.
1. Lots of withheld information. No president before Obama has actively sought to deny access to information we considered normal for president to reveal such as college transcripts, health records and birth certificate (original, not COB - Obama made McCain produce his during the campaign, fyi).
From my observations, if you're wondering how they come to these singular conclusions, or how they gather specific facts about specific topics, you're thinking too hard.
It's simply like this. Republicans believe Obama is bad. If something is bad, or scary-sounding, than Obama is also it. So they don't think.. "well Obama's muslim, but not quiiite the anti-christ, communist, but not quite a Nazi." They just go onto polls, and say whatever is scary, Obama is.
@Paulwhoisvegan is there any evidence of him getting down on his knees and facing the east? dont think so. does he make his wife cover 99% of her skin when she goes out? dont think so. how is he a muslim? who really gives a shit?
I don't like the rumors about Obama because they all seem to be based off of a persons prejudice. I have heard many explanations from those whom hold these opinions and that is the conclusion that I draw every time. It's a fucking joke, and it's a very hateful one. That's not America as I understand. I remember Repubs wanting to ban "un-patriotic speech" because Bush was rather silly in many of his speeches. Now those same bitchers make racial jokes about Obama.

@AGodlessProgressive So it really depends on how the question is constructed. But how does one say yes when someone asks if Obama is a muslim or no when asked whether he's an American? So I find his comparison to be a bit fallacious.
Wow, you are comparing people who distrust the official 9/11 story to people who think Obama is a Muslim in ignorance? No, that demonstrates that Democrats have more fucking brains than Republicans or Professor Berinsky.
Maybe those people have noted the conflicting stories and videos. Maybe they noted that the Bush admin lied to them about the safety of ground zero, wire tapping, torture, etc. and that Dick Cheney is a sick man who wouldn't be above murder. This shit just pisses me off.
@TheGiantRobot I was thinking the same thing. Wouldn't any intelligent and well-informed person be suspicious of anything the govt states as fact. Anyone who is familiar with US history knows the US govt has lied many times. The US govt under Bush even lied about the reasons for the Iraq War. Questioning based on real world history is far different than paranoid conspiracy theories and partisan rhetoric. It's funny that Cenk brings up equivocating politicians and this academic guy equivocates.
Yeah. It seems to me that so many people think they are free thinkers and the others aren't, but they don't stop to consider if their method of making decisions is any different. what's wrong with democrats saying they don't believe the official gov't version of 9/11 and believing some other theories?? if you can't believe the gov't's version, it's only normal that some ppl will believe that the gov't lied to get into a war...
