Awesome video, but I wish people would explain a knot's uses when they show you how to tie it!
This not (not its relatives) is as far as I know only useful as a stopper knot to keep rope from slipping through another knot (for instance a slipknot). Please enlight me as to other uses of this knot.
The figure 8 cannot be used to replace the bowline... the bowline makes a loop the figure 8 does not...
A double Figure 8 or as is sometimes called a figure 8 on a bight or figure 8 follow thru CAN be used to replace the bowline in many instances however that strictly speaking IS it's own knot and should not (no pun intended) be confused with the standard figure 8 as shown here.
The figure 8 as shown here standalone IS however very useful for it's own specific set of applications.
