could someone make a vid of the actual application of these blocks. Cause the blocks used in the form look very different when used it the applactions.
you can see application of the blocks in one and 2 step sparring videos but historically I agree with karate historians who say forms including the blocks used in them are for actually using with a weapon such as a staff or sai. Practice of them empty handed will assist you in performing them with a pool cue, pitchfork and other implement generally at hand.
To train and to strengthen I recommend to do training and strengthen activitys. This kinde of movement is not only useless in wiev of selfe defense. It is waste of time in wiev of strenghten becouse it is not effective, Do u agree?
Yeah I will be truthful, I did TaeKwonDo for 15 years and find these blocks helpful as a moving meditation. To develop oness of self and develop indomitable spiritutde. However now training in ninjutsu find this blocking system horrificly bad for self defense, ok for some one doing the same style.
The move to "street fighting" has caused people in general to completely lose focus on the art part. Your explenation is informative, that it has to be explained now due to ultimate fighting fad is what is sad - unfortunate - dismaying - just like it's sad that the internet is making people become too literal to not recognize a metaphore anymore.
yes I see, yes street fighters and UFC fighters only really perfect a handful of moves rather than becoming encompassed within an art. I agree with you friend. Thanks for watching.
Plain obvious that basic techniques won't work on the street as they're practised. In real situation you need to improvise. In real situation the need is to survive, not the collect style points. Point of exercises is to get the idea and functionality of blocks. Some of the blocks would work in real situation, but not as they are done at the dojang.
@GergelyMA - the "art" part of martial arts is for preserving a method of fighting from more civilized times. Your hosinsool part of korean arts training covers modern self defense applications and they are generally hard basic attacks and moves taken from hapkido. That this has to be explained to people is truely sad and shows the dumbing down of people today thx to mma popularity.
hi, thank for these help vids, i'm a blk belt and need to freshen my moves, me and my friends spar in my yard and they want to see some TWD moves and i showed them, thank you very much! hope u put more on soon!
there is so much to learn, i cant even get enough, it hurts after each time i train, but the pain, it feels good afterwards :), i dont know why i didnt start TKD earlier.
Just wanted to say thanks. I dont really have the money to join a dojo even though i have always wanted to and these videos give me drills i can do on my own. so thanks and keep up the vids. i find them to be helpful, informative and easy enough to follow that even i can do them.
No problem, I am glad you found this helpful. If you have any questions just personal message me here on youtube. I would be glad to help and answer any questions you have. I know how it is dishing out money every month for classes. And even finding the time to attend classes.
the hose stance can be used in Tkd, often it is used to practice blocks and throw punches from in a since weight distributed stance. It is also used for leg conditioning.
Hey can you tell me how to block/counter this situation: My dad uses some fighting technique when he just like sways his arms to block an attack and he charges toward me when he does this. He uses both of his arms and me and my dad only use fists. If I try to hit him, he sways my arm away and simultaneously attacks me quickly with both of his fists. Is there any way to hit/counter/block him because i'm kind of tired of losing by his attacks.
don't try to hit him let him come after you and when he does step out of the way and step out at a 45 degree angle to draw out his energy. Watch my evasions and shifts videos to get some ideas.
yo bro your xblock is the same as isshin ryu and uper foramr im just look at these video get know you better but what is see your good and very sure of you self i like that bro
So this kid has been starting fights with me at school. I think it's time I bust out some TKD yeah? Haha, you're such a good trainer I'm all excited now.
I will. Thanks. And are those blocking moves instinct? Because last year, my friends were into boxing, and i had a fractured finger. So I boxed my friend one handed with our other hand blocking, and I did some of these moves without knowing about them.
Very good explanation, much better than my old instructor. TKD blocks are very hard to apply in real fights, especially against multiple combo strikes. But with practice I'm sure they are in fact very effective and very practical. My favorite is the upward X block, it shields against a lot of strikes and if they strike overhead you can trap them and throw (not TKD related, but useful). Very nice video, I liked it a lot.
Yes, in modern fighting it is difficult to use these blocks against someone that is like a boxer who can punch real fast. However they do work you need to work on speed blocking and countering which comes with years of practice and work. I will be posting up speed blocking and advanced blocking soon.
this is almost exactly how all of the instruction videos should be.
Good voiceover, not too many techniques, another person to demonstrate with.
Keep this up this kind of format.
I actually used some of the tradional blocking you demonstrated here while sparring for muay thai, and it works as a surprise against boxing techniques, even with big sparring gloves on.
very good and very detailed. i didnt know you were teaching white level. is taekwondo white level in nintaijutsu? and are you teaching it alone or someone helping. i am alone in green but i know some are together like aikido and hapikido? 5 stars
Tkd is white belt level. There are other instructors that know TKD, I don't know if they are going to post up their curriculum. But I know they will help grade. I noticed many of the assistant instructors are inactive.

I think that with that extra step that someone quick would get through that block... Blocking has to be far quicker than that.

GergelyMA 2 years ago
yes for real self defense not that practical, but for training and strengthen it is a good skill.
