actually i was working on the go project last year installing snow melters, and from what i understand from every CN employee is that Bombardier hires and trains there own employees to drive the Go Transit, and got ride of all the CN and CP ones.
hey buddy, do you know what it takes to become a GO train operator??
I was enrolled in the conductor program at George Brown college and was later going to try for CN or CP BUT dropped out because of the intense shift work and bad hours??
Is GO train operator any easier?? and how do you apply?
hi friend sorry no reply earlier but ive been out of town, I realy dont know what you would need to go through to be a operator in Canada but I do know that the engineers and train crew are actually CN & CP employees. that are contracted out to the government. however I believe that will soon change by the end of the year.
Hey that program sounds really great. I am in grade 10 but I am considering this as a career aswell still. It is true that they are all pretty much Cn and CP workers who operate GO trains. I believe it is Bombardier Transportation. That or they are just a part of it. I think if you got hired as a conductor with CN or Cp you could ask or apply in to Metrolinx( GO train transit) I am guessing you could get in from there. But I think they hire engineers who aldreay drive for Cn or CP.
@pilotmanmax Bombardier maintains all the equipment and repairs. there are no Bombardier employees actually working the train. its CP and CN crews but Metrolinx is looking to change that. Go transit Purposed for 2010 will have there own personnel and crew. Just in case CP or CN goes on strike GO wont be affected. Yet for engineer duty it will be seniority based from the brotherhood of engineers. ( those who have been there the longest get first pick)
Thanks! Well if this is the road I go I hope that I can get right in to Metrolinx, even if I was just the fireman who sits in the cab calling signals etc.
I was heading to Hamilton from Toronto that night. and yes I have but its always been by train the old Amtrak/VIA International, Or by car since that route was canceled. never been to Georgetown by GO yet.
You will no-longer see infront of you in the cab car because the window you put the camera on, those windows will be sealed up...
