If St. Peter wasn't the first pope, then explain to me what Christ meant in John 21:15-19? Christ say to Peter, "Tend my sheep" doesn't that mean Christ appoints Peter as the head. Peter spoke during Pentecost. Did Peter stood up (Acts 1:15) and spoke? If he wasn't Pope then all of them would have spoken all at once. No church claims Clement (Philippians 4:3) as belonging to their church but the Catholic Church. The Bible talks about the Church in Rome.

Church comes from the greek word "kyriaké"=belongs to god. It is the correlation of the gr./lat. "ecclesia", "ecclesia" is the equivalent of the hebrew "קהל"/"qahal"=God's people.
Church means the People(s) of God. The use of the word Church for a building or an organisation was much later. The root of the things is important.

also, I blame the RCC itself for not educating its young people enough in recent decades. Indeed many young Catholics just follow the practices without knowing what they mean. Then when a protestant questions such Catholics, they can't defend the faith. But a truly educated Catholic realizes how extremely scriptural the Church is. The RCC should work on this.

Jesus says that there should be no division. Catholics believe that all Christians are one, both in heaven and the earth. So as we can pray with those on earth, so can we ask the saints in heaven to pray for us.

We take Christianity as it really is; we don't try to make it basic or simplify it. The only things that would keep you away from Christ's body are hatred or misconception. I think the sola fide argument between Catholics and Protestants all comes down to semantics. At the end of the day there are no absolutes on either side: Catholics don't say good works merit salvation, they say that faith is alive in good works. Protestants say good works are a demonstration of faith. No much difference.

That's why we have saints, past Christians, and are interested in history. We can't neglect the rich fifteen centuries of church teaching handed down to us by the Early Church Fathers. If St. Peter wasn't the first pope, then explain to me what Christ meant in John 21:15-19? Christ say to Peter, "Tend my sheep" doesn't that mean Christ appoints Peter as the head. Peter spoke during Pentecost. Did Peter stood up (Acts 1:15) and spoke? If he wasn't Pope then all of them would have spoken all at once. No church claims Clement (Philippians 4:3) as belonging to their church but the Catholic Church. The Bible talks about the Church in Rome.

I remember going through a ceremony that all Catholics must take by 12 or 13 years old and its called the Sacrament of Confirmation which involves stating clearly that we reject satan and all his false promises and we except Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour. What does the word 'Church' mean?
Church comes from the greek word "kyriaké"=belongs to god. It is the correlation of the gr./lat. "ecclesia", "ecclesia" is the equivalent of the hebrew "קהל"/"qahal"=God's people.
Church means the People(s) of God. The use of the word Church for a building or an organisation was much later. The root of the things is important.

I suggest you go on to read the next few passages after "I am the way" too where he talks of send his holy spirit to "teach and remind us" thus maintaining that the Church will learn of new things and thus implement them.

@jeshualivesforever And also, no one actually believes a building talks, when people say the Church says, we take it as obvious as 1. Church with a capital C notes the Holy Roman Catholic Church, and 2. the people of the church who run it, ie the deacons, priest and bishops who are also created in the bible by the way, not the bricks and motor, so to argue that the Church denotes the Faithful and not a building suggest you felt we were talking about a collection of bricks.

The roman-system and evangelical-system doesnt fit togheter.
This is the main problem on the RCC. The same development, you can see in India. They also try to assimilate the more increasingly popular Jesus Christ into their Vedanta-System. Thats important for some of them to keep control and power, like in the roman Empire.

also, I blame the RCC itself for not educating its young people enough in recent decades. Indeed many young Catholics just follow the practices without knowing what they mean. Then when a protestant questions such Catholics, they can't defend the faith. But a truly educated Catholic realizes how extremely scriptural the Church is. The RCC should work on this.

Protestants are guilty of fallacy when they say Jesus is the only mediator between man and God. I get that, it's scriptural; but they also forget that Jesus is God. Jesus gave his apostles the power to forgive sin. Jesus instituted the Holy Eucharist. Even if you dispute that Peter was the rock, how do you dispute the following verse which says I give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven? Or when he says "feed my lambs?" I think the sola fide argument between Catholics and Protestants all comes down to semantics. At the end of the day there are no absolutes on either side: Catholics don't say good works merit salvation, they say that faith is alive in good works. Protestants say good works are a demonstration of faith. No much difference.

That's why we have saints, past Christians, and are interested in history. We can't neglect the rich fifteen centuries of church teaching handed down to us by the Early Church Fathers. Respond to this video... When we say Mary is queen of heaven, we are not trying to equate her to God. Jesus Christ is King. Mary is his mother. In Jewish tradition, the mother of the king is the queen. Also Revelations depict Mary as the woman with a crown of twelve stars. It also calls Christians her spiritual descendants. Read Revelations. They are Baptism, Reconciliation, Holy Eucharist, Confirmation(baptism of the spirit), Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders and Matrimony. You can't have all 7 because you can't receive Holy Orders AND Matrimony--- you can't be a priest and be married. And these are all found in the Bible. If you don't find them, then pray to God to remove the scales from your eyes.

Jesus also talks about eunuchs who abstain from sex in order to serve God. The book of revelations also praises male virgins who remained celibate in order to serve God. Jesus chose 12 Apostles to be the pillars of his Church.. If heaveny Jerusalem is built upon them why shouldnt it be earthly Church. So One, true Church must be Apostolic... St. Peter is leader of the apostles (bishops) and the whole Church. He is the Vicar of Christ - Jesus gave him the keys of His kingdom and entrusted him sheep (us Christians). Without the Rock there is only confusion as we see it in protestant denominations. Praise be to God for Catholic faith! Stop protesting and join us!!

@proverbs1824 you certainly know nothing about the Bible. Can you remember the ethiopian whom Philip met. Philip asked him if he understood what he was reading. The ethiopian replied; "how can I, unless someone helps me?" The Bible does not say that everybody should interpret scripture the way he/she likes. The Bible says that the Church is the pillar and foundation of truth. If you have a question about scripture, seek the Church's help. Don't search for it within yourself.

If the spirit that dwells in you tells you something that contradicts the spirit that dwells within the Church, then that spirit is false. That's how you check. The Church is the Pillar and Foundation of Truth. 1 Tim. 3:15. The Church is Catholic, not splintered.

In doing so, every protestant is at liberty to see Jesus as he or she wishes rather than how he really is. Hence, protestants create a "false" Jesus for themselves. The Catholic Church is the church that Jesus said "the kingdom of hell shall not prevail." There is division in protestantism because the kingdom of hell prevails there. The Devil is chief confuser.

I believe in One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church.
"One" because there are no denominations of the Catholic Church. "Holy" because of Christ' spiritual and sacremental pressence. "Catholic" because it is for all peoples in all centuries teaching all the truth of God. "Apostolic" because if we could trace backward the Laying on of Hands at ordination, we would ultimately come to the Twelve.
