  • @zackvanhalen *The best muscial performance of the 20th century

  • Rest in peace lady Di.

  • @ lee8oi I can relate to your words, I was fresh out of H.S. and had just started college but I was too young to realize. Truly a beautiful and song.

  • I remember the news of diana. In those days I was a cold person. Didn't even bother to pay attention to this song even. But after so many years, and so many precious loved ones lost this song has a new light when I listen to it. Its beautiful honestly. Hats off to Elton for this moving farewell to England's Rose. And Goodbye Diana. Sorry it took me so long to realize your true value to this world.

  • The world stood still at that very moment... An ocean of tears were shed... You shall be missed, Lady Diana...

  • i would of loved to slash come out and stand on his piano and play wild horses

  • Rip Marilyn Monroe

  • R.I.P kim jong-il

  • @sage4rage Really?

  • @sage4rage I hope he is buring in hell! He treated his people like dogs F@#* HIM!!!

  • @sage4rage May he burn in hell

  • RIP christopher hitchens

  • Huge illuminati ritual sacrifice. Keep feeding them people, keep feeding them.

  • @lockedine it’s sad that the illuminati are totally unheard of, totally in the shadows and nobody seems to care… oh well, eventually I hope they will be hugely exposed.

  • He conveys a sense of sadness and hope at the same time, something that I had never felt in a song.

  • this was his only song that he changed the name and some of the words. since the orignal verison of this song was for marilyn monroe

  • i got to go to a funeral tomorrow for my nan

    when i get home,i'm playing mw3 for the ps3

    (3:00 or less)

  • HRH DIANA PRINCESS OF WALES: 1961 1997 By Baron Guibal on face book

  • LOL NO DOUBT THE JUNKIE CAN FINALLY REST HER TORTURED SOUL

  • I thought this song was written by Elton John specifically for Princess Diana but later realized the song was actually about Marilyn Monroe. But still the lyrics here are sadder.RIP Princess Diana

  • This was played at my grandpas funeral shortly after she passed...man o man..97 was a rough year

  • goosebumps. the voice this man has!

  • Beautiful Song

  • would it be the same if kate died?

  • @Goger1 No

  • She wasn't a saint not a martir. Idealize her is absurd!

  • .y earlier post is missing the word "great" after "it's"

  • I think it's that he'll only agree to play it for her sons. You also?

  • Can you believe this is the ONLY time he ever performed this version of the song live??? DESPITE it being the biggest selling sngle world wide.

  • didnt he write this for marilyn monroe?

  • @anger154 yes

  • RIP Angel

  • Eltons finest moment ever. God Bless Him

  • Rest in peace, sweet princess. And God bless you, Elton.

  • what can 1 say except brilliant

  • Whatever version you prefer (1973 or this one 1997), Candle in the Wind is one of if not the best song Elton John has ever done.

  • dat eyebrow...

  • This has got to be considered as one of the greatest musical performances of the twentieth century.

  • @zackvanhalen LOL ! The 1973 original version dedicated to Marilyn Monroe is far better.

  • @unceif

    xDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

    that one was fucking awesome

  • @unceif

    fucking hilarious XD

  • @unceif a bit harsh on a dead one ... but hilarious !!!!

  • @unceif hahaha you're such an ass xD

  • @unceif Obviously you've never had the misfortune of dealing with someone who has addiction problems. Grow up. I'm sure her family would appreciate your comment. What an ass.

  • Oh come on and lighten up.

  • I was a baby when Princess Diana died but every time i see this i cry. She was such an amazing women, and no one deserves to lose thier life like that. And when I think of how young Harry and William were its just horrible that they had to lose their moother, that she couldn't see william get married. R.I.P. Princess Diana <3

  • How does this not have more views...

  • It's amazing how after singing the original after all of those years He didn't mess up and slip in an original lyric here or there. WOW!!! Awesome performance!!!

  • imagine he said norma jean by accident

that would have been a fail of epic proportions, truly an epic fail that would have been

  • This song is so pretty. the lyrics are amazing!!!!!!

  • Diana would have been 50 on 7/1/11. I still can't believe she's been gone so long, and that she would have been 50.

  • First he made this song amazing for Marilyn and now Diana, just pure talent

  • This song is no.1 in the world-all-time-charts #elton #john

  • if you look close enough, you'll see the slight glistening in his eyes. Also, if you listen to him enough, you'll notice that his voice is shaking. He covered it very well. He's a strong man.

  • @kirstygirll

Look close enough? It's 240p. You can see the next Batman movie if you look close enough.

  • @kirstygirll His, and awaays was. God bless Lady Di, AND Elton John!!!

  • To answer the question of "Will he play this live?":

Sir Elton has said in numerous instances that the only time he would play this version of Candle in the Wind again is at the request of the late Princess' children. That's it

  • I cried b4 he started to play ... whole story so sad:(

  • im only 20 seconds in and im already almost crying :'( and im not a proper royal follower.

  • he just bought a house for his boyfriend close to me

  • My heart is frozen .

  • Classy and touching

  • He's a professional. I'm sure he's crying inside, in his heart. A very touching tribute to a lovely lady. May her soul rest in peace. Amen.

  • Sir Elton John, this is the best tribute to a friend I have ever witnessed....I watched the funeral and this was the most moving part of the service...I know Princess Diana was there in spirit encouraging him not to cry....

  • Anyone who dislikes this need's slapping

  • Strange that even as a kid in the late 1980's I always had a special feelin for her, although I merely know her face from magazin covers my grandma was reading. I guess I didn't understand her role in sociatey or who she really was, but I know I did love the warmth she was showing in so many issues. Since I can't remember when or how I fully realised her and which story came along with it, I must've picked up her amazement somehow as a child with which sense whatsoever.

  • How can someone sing that song for 4 minutes without breaking out in tears?

  • @TwoDeux That is what people are asking me to.

For only i can say that Death doesnt have to BE a bad thing for anyone.

For myself, its something beautifull.. And sometimes ( not always ) a death is better

for One who suffered in this world. But is now in Peace in Heaven.

TakeCare. Feel Blessed and Guided by God.

  • Definitely a sad moment in history and that is why he is a Knight..worthy title for him to hold!!

  • She should've been at her son's wedding..

I bet she would have been so proud to see her boys up there at that altar.

  • Did anybody else notice elton johns right eyebrow???? I'm only 14 but I was truly touched by this!!! This is really sad! I wish I could have seen her in person or met her before she died! :( I love princess diana!!! She was an amazing person!!!

  • Its touching how a whole country came together for one individual! :'(

  • this is probably the only moment when he didn't get a a standing ovation for his performance...

  • I vaguely remember the day of her funeral. Sigh...I dont think there was a dry eye anywhere. RIP Diana!

  • He will not sing this song again because it's purpose was a funeral song for her her funeral is over so no he will not play this song again not this version

  • Was my 7th birthday party when we all found out n I was dressed like a princess :)

  • @ashleighchelle i was 7 also and was annoyed cuz all the childrens programmes where off that day lol

  • anyone notice his right eyebrow lol?

  • Came as such a shock, i remember sitting with my parents when the alert came across the tv....truly horrible

  • 7 people are papparizzi

  • very very sad, but a amazing song too !!!

  • His eyebrow controlled his performance :P

  • very very nice.. ;(

  • candle in the wind ... wtf ??o0

  • Elton John will only perform Candle in the Wind 1997 under the wishes of Princes Charles, William and Harry

  • @eggbeaters, you're just jealous since Elton is so awesome and you're such a fucking loser.

  • @jlynny1811 blow me

  • Lauren Elaina sang this last night on American Idol, and it reminded me of Princess Di's funeral. Thank you for posting this. Now I have to go clean up my teared face so I can go to work!

  • elton john blew the candle in the wind out with the air from his ass........queef

  • @eggbeaters What a respectful and mature response. We need people like you in society so much more than we need homosexuals. (Incidentally, it's spelt "queer").

  • @asgrey3 no its queef dumby the sound of air comin from your lower orafist

  • If you "re-tooled" this song slightly, it would describe the life and death of Bl. Mother Teresa. Mother Teresa's passing was somewhat overshadowed by Princess Diana's death, since the former occured only five days later. Having said that Princess Diana's death at such a young age was heartbreaking and I don't mean to detract from her memory. May Mother Tereasa and Diana both rest in peace.

  • EVERYTIME I HEAR THIS VERSION I GET MISTY EYE

  • Elton ruleeees!!!!!!

  • apparently 4 people don't understand what "best selling single of all-time" or "most weeks at no1 by a male solo artist" means. =]

  • Great song!!

Rest in peace Diana. You will never be forgotten.

  • Has anybody heard if Elton is performing at the upcoming royal wedding?

  • eyebrow??

  • i was only 10 when Princess Diana died, and yet this song can still move me to tears... such a tragic loss... what a waste :(

  • Anyone whom is downing Princess Diana, can your stupid candy ass and educate yourselves, before you even think of opening your shit filled mouth. Moving on great job by Elton John and Bernie Taupin changing the song to fit the occasion.

  • Fuck you jeraldi show some goddamn respect this princess is to date one of the only royal family members to be very humane and god hearted...

  • RIP Princess Diana

  • im sure diana is burn in hell now because of cristian.

  • She was a bit of a slapper really.

  • Princess Diana, not Lady Diana!

  • @princessalice111 Rip Diana 14 Years it will be this Year, since Britain lost a princess Lady Diana, Great Briton she was u are wrong who ever said that about princess Diana deserved to die she did nothing for ordinary, poor children is wrong she went to Centre-point the homeless charity in London, she unlike the Queen she use to shake the hand's of poor people in Africa some had HIV with her bare hand's she saw them as human being's not as infectious, like the disease.

  • How is he no freaking crying?? This was still one of the greatest moments in any funeral anyway. It's actually good he never played that song again. Only one time.

  • @jsg361 believe me, inside he IS crying. a pianist and singer myself, i played and sung Lullabye at a close friends funeral, and it is extremely hard to keep that emotion in. the only thing you can do, as a professional and to keep your bearing is to channel that emotion into the music. look at his face, you can see the pain on it

  • @jsg361 - It was a charity single, I think it was only meant for this one performance. Does he do the original version still, in concert of somesuch?

  • @CycloneGU Yes, the Maralyn version

  • @CycloneGU No, he perfmormed it in Sydney 2007 and did the original Marilyn version

  • @jsg361 The mark of a truly great performer.

  • @jsg361 guess its experience and skills as a artist that keeps him in his own bubble.

  • @jsg361 he is crying. look closer.

  • @jsg361

    I don't understand... He did.

  • @jsg361 You can see the pain etched in his face. He was incredibly strong during that performance, and you can see through his grimaces that he wanted to break down and cry. :'(

This is SO lovely. ♥ It gets to me every time.

  • @loopyallie1 Beautiful post. If it had been me up there singing, I would have lost it. Thanks for your comment. Peace always.

  • @danbeatless <3 Peace and love to you my friend.

  • @loopyallie1 I saw Elton in 2002, and he played "Candle in the Wind", BUT only yhe Marilyn Monroe version, which is beautiful and moving also.

    Again, peace.

  • @jsg361 He's played it more than once , he's played it at MSG 2000 and numerous times in Las Vegas.

  • @PeasantryGaming But was it this vertion of the song? cos as far as I heard he said he'd only play "that" vertion of the song as long as any of the princes of England ask it anyother time would be the regular vertion of the song which by the way I've heard he dedicated to Marylin Morroe

  • cor21cam SHAME ON YOU!

  • cor21 ur an asshole...Have some respect for princess Diana! Dont be such a douche bag..

  • Diana deserved to die. She was wealthy and did nothing for humanity. I'm glad she's dead.

  • @cor21cam You are a filthy cunt. I will be glad when you are dead. Soon?

  • @cor21cam please give us a list of what you have done for humanity and than think about who deserved death more, you or Princess Diana... damn retard

  • ein song der nach all den jahren immer noch pure gänsehaut erpasst.

  • one dislike?

  • If I die I want this song loooooooooooooool

  • as a close friend of diana this was personal for elton, theres a reason why he only did it once. Its amazing to see the support for someone like diana. whilst she ended up a royal she never lost her genorosity and consideration for the ones less fortunate, at the end of the day she was a normal person who married into royalty. The queen never liked her because of this.

  • check the eyebrow. Good song though.

  • i will hunt down the person who dislikes this. how can someone dislike this?!

  • In America, you can always find a party. In Soviet Russia, party finds you!

  • amazing

  • i just got goosebumps

  • @bertiebr Exactly !!!!

  • Princess Diana I LOVE YOU & WILL MISS YOU FORVER XXXXXX

  • GREAT PERFORMANCE SIR ELTON JOHN. ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT

  • Woow What A Voice, What A Feeling, What A Song

  • Woow What A Voice

  • it must have been really hard on Elton, not even a month before he and diana had to attend the funeral of Gianni Versace, fun morbid fact tho gianni designed the dress that diana was wearing at her funeral.

  • @bertiebr right on!!!

  • @bertiebr - That would be four people according to the stats I'm seeing. I presume good faith, perhaps they had a problem with the quality of the clip or something. I thought it was all right.

I think I watched this live, meanwhile. I think it's safe to say that many an eye was batted with a tissue that day, if not just during this performance.

  • @bertiebr THE 4 BASTARDS WHO DISLIKE THIS SHOULD ROT FOREVER IN HELL

  • @bertiebr Disagree here...people are free to dislike it if they want...I love this song, and remember this version like it was yesterday...but people should be allowed to like what they like.

  • this makes me want to cry :(

  • Never knew how such a gorgeous lady would be so poignantly-missed; great to know you had Irish and Scottish heritage like me too; I watched this live on the TV at home in Edgware, NW London aged 11 and I never cried at the time; but you were so gorgeous and radiantly-beautiful this passionate, patriotic rendition nearly moved me to tears which is extremely-rare and sent shivers up my spine with pride; Jesus loves you and see you in Heaven

    Mac

    x

  • I wish I had been old enough to understand what a beautiful woman you were, inside and out. You are always missed by all.

At this time as we celebrate the engagement of you son William I hope you can look upon him with great love and pride.

You are what it means to be a strong independant woman.

  • God bless Lady Diana. And Elton John.

  • How Elton managed to keep his composure is beyond me, amazing performance for an amazing Lady. x

  • ¡Qué bonito!...de verdad que me he emocionado, es una canción preciosa

  • Princess Diana was an inspiration to a genration. She is deeply missed.

  • It is moments like these that make you really appreciate what it is like to still be alive today.

There are millions of People in the world today who have no respect for anyone or anything. I will always remember when I was just 11 and me and my dad went down and camped out for the funeral. It taught me a lot about respecting the real good People who lose their lives.

RIP Princess.. Your sons are doing you proud!

  • Years have gone and I still wish Diana'death was a nightmare, that we will weak up and she will still be around being good to the needy children of the world. May God keep you close to him now that we no longer have you in earth. I am so sorry you married that ugly man, ugly inside and out, he hurt you so much, he used you but he did something good, he gave you those wonderful children that some day will be in charge in England. May Charles go to hell alive!

  • Elton John you was very kind ! RIP Lady Diana

  • Draga,Diana...mnogo je vremena proslo...:((((

  • She gave birth to the future King William King of England and all her dominions and the equaly superb Prince Henry. That makes her great. God save the Queen..

  • @TPerei1 He will not be the 'King of England', the same as Queen Elizabeth II is not the Queen of England. The title 'King/Queen of England' has not existed since 1707, the last monarch with that title was Queen Anne, who ruled from 1702 to 1707, when she became Queen of Great Britain. The title today is 'King/Queen of the United Kingdom'.

  • she was truey englands rose who'll always be missed by every1 specialy her 2 boys & her family & friends including al of us who loved her I remember that day she died I was only 10yrs old at the time though I was at my aunty's house she came back from the shops & she told us when she got back & my cousin was in hospital very sick, it was truey very sad 2 here she'd passed away but she was truely amazing & so caring 2 every1 no matter wat, RIP lady diana ur truely missed by many

  • @21faus I agree with what you're saying, but learn to use full stops. Jeez.

  • Comment removed

  • to think - how hard must this of been to perform? I know he would have practised it and he's trained yadayadayada.....but surely the pressure and the situational surroundings must have been truly awful to perform in. I know that sounds bad because at a funeral you're meant to look at the good stuff of a person.....all i'm saying......wow he can perform in such sad times. PS Elton - You were awesome last year - loved you in concert!

    Thanks

  • beauty song for better person.R.I.P Lady Diana

  • Simply beautiful

  • She was one of the best dressed, stylish, most caring, loving people who ever walked the earth. I wish I could've met her. I remember I didn't hear anything that night, but the next day, I was reading the paper and saw it. I was just like, "What the hell? What's wrong with the world?"
