  • What the frak?!

  • Anyone else get a slight shock when black hands showed up?

I was expecting pasty white sausage fingers.

  • BASS LINE is a must for this piece...great...i'm not a musician in any way shape or form but i loves me this song!

  • Ebony and Ivory

  • Perfect, just I think the Right hand doesn't matches. I can't give you à music sheet but I have a GP5 file that I made if you want. It's like : firt mesure : 3 times 1/8 C#, 1 time 1/4 C#, 1 time 1/8 E, 1 time 1/4 E, second mesure : 2 times 1/8 A, 1 time 1/2 and 1/4 A. I know it's a weard notation but I hope you'lle understand ^^

  • yo could you just post the notes that would make it so much easier for me lol it would prolly be super easy if i could play piano lol but i just really want to play this because its bad ass and BSG is one of my fave shows and my fave episodes were the ones with this song in it lol

  • thanks

  • what the frak...

  • hey could u send me a link for the sheet music?

  • Thank you for posting this - it made imitating it (for someone who hasn't touched a piano before) easier on me!

  • Nope...this is the BM mix I believe from "Someone to Watch Over Me".

  • Great tutorial, only irk was the rhythym you played the song with, otherwise, perfect

    cheers

  • Do you have a link to the sheet music you mentioned for this song?

  • Awesome! i love how you angle the camera, makes it so much easier to see! any way i could get a link to the sheet music you referenced on spacebattles? i looked around but couldnt find it. thanks again!

  • Is this for the part where kara and her father are playing the piano in sync?

  • Thank you for this!

  • Definitely the best tutorial I've come across in a while. For someone with musical training, someone naming the notes/chords/intervals is a lot easier to go by than trying to guess what someone's hitting in a blurry homemade video. Thanks so much! :D

  • I second that. Being a Music Theory Major, I appreciate this attempt.

  • You are welcome, my Theory Professor always stressed proper notation, otherwise, points off :(

  • Glad you liked it, and I'm glad you appreciate the technical insight...

  • Thank you so much for posting this i figured out the part kara plays by myself but i couldnt figure out the chords so thanks!

  • No problem, sad that the show is over...

  • This has given me the will to start playing my guitar again... I'm trying to figure it out on my fender as I type this lol... Thank you!

  • Nice, that's what I like to hear, and you are welcome for the lesson....

  • Thanks for taking the time to post this man.. Your time and work are very much appreciated!

    KUDOS!

  • No problem....

  • Good job. I like this tutorial more than the others. But I personally like playing Slicks basleine with two hands straight from the episode and tacking on the last notes of Kara's part when the base rests mometarily. I use these though. For some reason leaving C# doesn't sound right to me, despite knowing that's not exactly how he's playing it. Bear's said he's releasing the sheets soon so... yay

    X4 LH C# G# C# RH E G# C#

    X2 LH C# G# C RH E G# B

    X3 LH C# A C# RH E A C#

  • Where will the sheets be released?

  • Keep on eye on his site over the summer/fall. Around the time the 2-disc S4 OST comes out you should hear something about them. Usually his blogs contain the cues, or at least enough to get you started, but these I guess were too complex/long to post there.

  • Thanks I'm glad you liked this vid, but this is a baseline (no pun intended) tutorial for everyone, and you are advanced enough to add your own variations as you have demonstrated. The series is over though, so right now I'm :(

  • Hey man, do you reckon you could do "One Year Later" it plays in the last episode of Season 2 of BSG. I can see you did Metamorphosis One, thank you very much for that now I can play it, and I can't play the piano. It's made me think about starting though. I'm a drummer though, so I guess that really helped with co-ordination. Thanks again!

  • That is amazing, and drummers amaze me imho, I don't know how you manage to do it. As for more BSG music, I will try to do more, but I read on a Bear McCreary blog somewhere he'd be releasing sheets for various themes of the series. You are very welcome for the tutorial.

  • Do you think, in your opinion that I will pick up learning the piano quite quickly? I'm real keen, and there are some songs that have stuck in my head that have made me want to start. Bear McCreary's composing is just brilliant. I can honestly say I have a 'feel' for it, but the main thing I am having trouble with, is the finger placement and doing it quickly. If you could help me out with some advice or tips, it would be greatly appreciated. See ya later.

  • That just comes with time and knowing chord groupings, once you know those you won't need to worry were the hands need to be....if you want more, you can PM me....

As for learning quickly, if you really dedicate time and effort, progress will always take care of itself....

  • Hello, Im 24 and I have never played an instrument ever, I've been learning Keyboard for the last 6 months and I regret not doing it as a kid. So the answer is yep for sure ( like my music teacher says keep practising) You eventually get the hang of it so I strongly reccomend learning

    regards,

  • Thanks mate.

  • I was hearing a similar rythm in my head beofre this episode was even created!!!!

  • Well, I hope you aren't descended from Cylon colonies....

  • So did i...It was like a haunting echo in the back of my head and then when it came on i freaked out and sat with my face a few inches from the tv and kept replaying it.

I hope that doesn't sound crazy.

  • LOL. We're fraking cylons.

  • Or at least descended from hybrid ones such as Hera....

  • Thanks for posting

Could you do Passacaglia from Season one?

  • hey can you give us a link for the sheet music?

  • PM for the link...

  • Definitely, it's much too easy for learning. I missed a E major between C sharp minor and A major, but it's all right.

    Thanks!

  • yeah! thks yo sooo much man! this is awesome!

  • this is so nice! I think this is slightly different from what was on the show but thank you foir posting it!!!!

  • It has to be, the version in the episode was a) a duet with Kara's dad playing the bass 2-handed and b) it looks and sounds like Kara never played a chord for her bit.

  • if you want to know how to play the duet, check out my channel, i have posted a tutorial after i taught myself a little part of it....check it out it is the main part of the duet, not just a solo

  • I have been made aware of such things, good work.

  • Thanks!! your video is a great version of the song as a solo and is really great....good job!!

  • I was wondering if the actual audio didnt align with what was being played, it kind of stuck out as the music built over the scene, but to hear the actual duet, while seeing it played would be fantastic! Thanks for posting this!

  • You are welcome, I've had this tune stuck in my head since this episode aired... :)

  • GASP! You're a cylon!

  • LOL

  • I'm inclined to agree, by the time Kara finally remembers the pattern, the whole band comes in with the main melody.

  • You are welcome. the version is a little different from the episode, but it's close enough to play and learn.

  • Hello, very vibrant sounding Rendition! Would you, perchance link to the cheat sheet on Space battles, and/or provide the keys in a printable environment for those of us wanting to sight read?

  • PM for the link....
