He is using a really nice alternate tuning on the guitar. This is one of the better versions i have heard on the web. Looking forward to hearing him on June 7th in Atlanta.
I like this guy a lot. Agree that it takes nerve to try to pull this off live. Tough tune to sing......
Bon Iver is a major talent and I adore the album and think Stacks is probably the best song on it (and the best song I've heard all year). Having said that I'm not sure he can pull it off live - his voice isn't quite up to it (although he sounded amazing on Jools Holland). It doesn't help that his guitar is out of tune either. I'm sure like all singers he'll improve over time but I can't help wincing at times when I hear him. Still I love his work!

you are an absolute ass and obviously have no clue about what it is to create or perform and if you have done either, it would be utter garbage just like your retarded words. go away you fucking loser critic. you are of no use and are a waste of human
why is it that whenever anyone says anything at all critical about an artist in a youtube video, people feel the need to flame them. goodchaun, you are the waste of human.

This is one of the most haunting songs I have ever heard. Justin Vernon is awesome. So glad I found this album.
The thing about singing in falsetto as he dos ALL the time is that he is always on a knife edge vocally. If you don't get the note every one in the room knows it. It takes serious balls to sing like this live.
@BonIverSUCKS you're a f***ing c***. And you're a definition of a bad person.

It's a tough song for any of us to play. But it's his song. it's a part of him. he embodies it, he embraces, he could never play it wrong.

so nice to see a respectful crowd keep quiet during the song and then showing their appreciation vocally at the end
