as your son gets older, try introducing how to make your own hexbugs, or bristlebots. could be a fun and cheaper alternative little hobby. i work at radio shack, and i love playing with these little bugs and showing them of to customers xD

My 2 year old loves them and calls them "crickets". He won't touch them while they're alive, but I've found him holding them like Hot Wheels while he watches Sesame Street. We went from seeing one at a friends house, to owning one, to owning five, to building multi-tiered habitats out of cigar boxes and craft clay (in the three days since Christmas). They're like tattoos. Beware.

My Son Loves them to, i just bought him the Battle Bridge (Mr Toys Toyworld has it on special for $20 INSTEAD OF ITS NORMAL PRICE $60), i didnt think about the straights could elevate until i saw your video, thank you, now when they fall of the bridge they can go back up and battle again. i know what you mean about not having enough and wanting to buy more so you can have an epic habitat.

@hannahaddy also because when the battery is weak, the motor slows. if you look carefully the motor turns in a direction fast. because it is slow, the bug vibrates in that direction, making it turn. UNDERSTOOD?

I live in Korea. One of my boys bought a vibrating "Robot Bug" and a search for the genuine article led me to Hexbug Nano. At a fifth of the price, the imitation is pretty neat... not sure if I can get Hexbugs in Korea anyway. I just wanted to say that it's a great toy for cats, too... hopefully they won't swallow one.

@randomstariffication it does bend the track ever so slightly, but not to the point of breaking it. If the ramp is 3 straight pieces long, then the curved piece connecting it to the pavillion will be ok. That's also the pitch needed for the bugs to get up the ramp.

@stinkhead Hmmm... How long does one last? You'd think they would come up with some sort of induction thing where the base plugs and induces an electric field that each nano can pick up.

Along that line, if they made the base and tracks vibrate, they would move the same without any electricity at all. Then what do you have? The same thing as those old time football game things where the players vibrate up and down the field! Put a nano on a wash machine and see if it walks while turned off.

if you dont have the poles then use tooth picks, there is a small hole on the edge of the bottom of each piece. put the pointy part in there and the other part on the under hexagon
