in the history, they aim to trainning the rail cab driver is quite a hard job! including to change the track you must ease up to 25mph. if there isn`t, you can on at least 60mph! and now, the electric power limited us if there is over than ats produce. it'll be automatic stop! too annoying at the same moment!
@Sgtellzo UK signals at junctions have a route indicator above the signal lights -- its the bar formed by the row of small white lights. If the route indicator isn't lit then this is the plain aspect or main route.
@blobby1972 Tweed Jacket nasell hair beer belly, . . . I'd like to see the training for the electrostar even a class 319 with the air pilot looking cab s
interesting that in the last segment of that film the train entered a dead end platform under a green signal, something that never happens in australia, you would get a red signal with a subsidiary calling on signal or small green low speed signal to warn the drive that the line ahead may be blocked or occupied
@heathirving Interesting film. I'm pretty sure that the green signal entry to a dead-end was abolished as a result of the Moorgate tube disaster of 1975 - although it took a little while to achieve this (enquiry etc). A pity that it took a tragedy to bring about something which is completely logical.
@heathirving if you listen you will hear that T668 signal is a 2 aspect signal, that would mean it could only show a red or single yellow, you would never aproach a buffer stop on a green even in the pre morgate incident days. A single yellow would be an unoccupied platform, a red with associated subsidiary would be used on a part occupied platform.
we have a form of approach control using a small subsidiary light called a "calling on" sometimes preceded by a little green light called a "close-up" and actually I do remember at cronulla in Sydney the dead end platform was signalled with a yellow caution signal. cheers
What's the point of having to "learn" the route - is not as if you can take a diversion if you want to is it? - The train will follow the route by itself!
@waldenhouse aye, but you might ! Trains cant stop like a car - you need to know where every signal is, the type of signalling, all the speed restrictions, locations of stations, get a feel for the gradients, know where the low adhesion areas are....good enough to frive in darkness or fog. Many a car/truck driver can't understand it, but trust me, your route knowledge is the most important thing when driving a train.
Fascinating stuff! Just remembered when I was a kid I did some trainspotting (cos that's what you do when you're growing up in Dumblaine in the '80s)
I worshipped the Intercity 125, thought it was the most futuristic thing ever. One time a train driver let me drive the 125 for a few miles to Stirling - hot damn!!!
@coveneyr Now come on, they're not that bad - certainly not compared to some countries! You go to the likes of Cuba and you're very lucky if the train runs at all!
The intro music is hilariously retro. I had this mad picture in my head of a room full of train drivers dancing badly in a 1980s-ish sort of style. On another note, though, my -- Brighton station really looked so dilapidated back then, it's amazing how much better it looks these days.
That was like a train test!!

As I live in Worthing I travel on that line whenever I go into Brighton (Which was last weekend :D)
It's interesting looking at how different the trains are in the video compared to the new Electrostars that run on the line now...
Any idea what the train the video was recorded on was?judging by the stop position at Hove it could be a small motored cart :O
