Inglorious Basterds is one of the few films that I knew was really something special and only reconfirmed every time another scene started. I had no idea who Christoph Waltz was, all I knew was that Hans Landa was simultaneously comical, quirky, and absolutely terrifying.
We Germans use to be (historically) not very fond of the Austrians in general - but Christoph Waltz is an amazing actor who absolutely deserves an Oscar. He is just an amazing artist. He is like the best villain EVER! Congratulations Chris!
@benjaminandrew123 tucci didnt have to speak about 4 different languages in his film and still give the creepy, unsettling vibe the waltz had to...both were brilliant, but waltz just took it to that next level. I hated and loved his character at the same time. honestly, his acting is what brought be back to this movie again and again.
@dicipline8888 I don't see you getting an Oscar award, pal. ;) Just saying. The guy may seem like a dork, and he may have a strong accent, but that's where he's from- and if it ticks you off to have people dump their stupid little remarks on you like you have- then you shouldn't say a word, my friend.
The academy made a wise decision when they awarded Christoph Waltz with the oscar for best supporting actor. He is the best movie villain since Darth Vader.
@fozinto1 As much as I loved Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker, Darth Vader ranks as my favorite movie villain of all time. He was also the first movie villain I saw as a kid that was so badass, I felt the same about Colonel Hans Landa. Nothing against the late Heath Ledger.
@jheadSF06 Oscars like to give out awards to people who play crazy psychos, don't they? Kathy Bates, Javier Bardem, Heath Ledger, Jack Nicholson (1975), Fredric March, Elizabeth Taylor, Ruth Gordon, Michael Douglas (though he was a slick psycho), Joe Pesci, Anthony Hopkins, Tim Robbins, Daniel Day Lewis (2007), it goes on.

The film should have won Best Picture/screenplay/picture/Director as well it deserved them far more than the Hurt Locker.

I wonder at what point Waltz simply got bored receiving awards. I think this role got him something like 36 best supporting actor awards.
