  • 3 questions:

    1) Isn't this movement titled "Olim lacus colueram" ?

    2) Is this chorus singing in Germanized-Latin? (versus Italiamized-Latin? ... I ask because of their diction throughout the entire work)

    3) Was @1:47 SUPPOSED to happen? =/

  • Not to mention the chorus. No grace notes (which are given to the chorus by Mr. Orff himself) and YUSTUS? Has NOBODY in that choir ever sung in Latin before?

  • Ahh, now I understand who Lawrence Brownlee is, but he is not that important, what is important is the song. If you don't like this version, find yourself a different one. If the cover is all that bothering you, too bad. You don't have to watch it.

  • @cpawel Glad you did your homework. And he IS that important. He's clearly done more than this gentleman, who cannot even produce a quality recording with a reputable orchestra.

The cover bothers me because it is deceptive. It is giving credit to a group of people who do not deserve it. The Berlin Philharmonic is one of the most respected symphonies in the entire world. They should not have their name slandered by this performance.

  • @bassrob2 the thing is, I like this version better, not the Brownlee one. This one has the emotion that's needed, his is just singing. It's like he doesn't understand the meaning of the words.

  • @cpawel That's great. I'd prefer a tenor who can actually sing the aria well, not just squak it because "it fits with the text." The reason I said this tenor is obviously not reputable is because the uploader could not even find a cover for the recording.

But what I have the REAL problem with is the orchestra. The intonation is absolutely atrocious, and they are RARELY together.

And THAT, my friend, cannot be hindered by text or "interpretation" of a piece.

  • So cool. The soloist does the part of a dying swan perfectly!

  • is this really The Berlin Philharmonic ? They are not playing together and the intonation is in general really bad. (1:46, 2:05 e.g.)

  • @danieldavidsen Uhm. No. This is DEFNITELY not the correct album cover. Look up Lawrence Brownlee. He sounds NOTHING like this god-awful tenor.

  • @bassrob2 I agree...I can hear the tenor's voice crack, and it's sounding like nails going down a chalkboard. How Annoying!

  • @bassrob2 and @bassrob2 Uhhhhh, who the hell is Lawrence Brownlee, and what does he have to do with Carl Orff's Carmina Burana? and bassrob2, he's supposed to do that, its part of the song. If you don't like it, go listen to something else.

  • @kikimsund It is kinda creepy... until you read the translation and realize that it's about a swan that's being roasted for dinner.

  • @MrChenrezi still creepy, because swans shouldn't speak. and i dont imagine swans having such a voice. but it sounds amazing none the less

  • i just love this movement! :)
