What you learned is okay. You can say "marido" and "mujer" or "esposo" and "esposa". All of these words can be used interchangeably so do not worry much about which you choose!
Thanks! Well, the word "father" for example, is "padre", not "el padre". It is true that in many cases you say "El padre" but not always... for example... my father...mi padre, not mi el padre. And that is why if you look it up in a dictionary you will see "padre", not EL padre. :)

a los padres en sentido cariñoso se les puede llamar :
papá o papi : daddy
mamá o mami: mom
y a los abuelos se les puede llamar iaios o yayos,la pronunciacion es la misma...
al esposo se le llama en españa marido y esposa mujer...
espero que os vaya bien con el aprendizaje de este idioma tan atrayente e ilustrado...
sin olvidar que en españa hay mas idiomas o lenguas...

You have to avoid those two at all costs!!!!! lol

la verdad es que esposo y esposa está correcto pero creo que marido y mujer es más infomal, aquí por lo menos esposo y esposa no se usa.

EL = El hombre. [The man.]
LOS = Los hombres. [The men.]
LA = La mujer. [The woman.]
LAS = Las mujeres. [The women.]
The change has to do with the person's sex and how many people you are talking about.
