This is terrible. Not only is that an unnecessarily mean way to stop your dog jumping, you were teaching that one not to trust you when you say ok. All you need to do to stop jumping is to turn away and reward the dog when he doesn't jump. The prong collar?!? Just no.
does it work pretty fast? i mean do you have to reward your dog with a treat after their
down on all four legs? because i was thinking it would just confuse them if you turned away from them and then give them a treat once their down. What do you think?
I'm am also a trainer and behaviorist and I find that your methods result in serious injuries to dogs the so called "knee bump" is not used by the military, the akc, or any other notible institution. You are teaching bad habits that will lead to bad pet parenting. Also no is too common of a word to use while training dogs. I heard you use German commands but yet you follow such bad pratices.
@bigBrude41 I believe the easiest way sir would be to just turn away. Never use your hands or legs as it is common for them to see it as a reward instead of a punishment. For some dogs this may even become a game. The question truely depends on the dogs age and how long the behavior has been occurring. AKC regulation for an over excited dog is to lay down on top of him. Or a "Jump Stopper" by Absolutely New for around 4-5 weeks. Also you may work on attention span building with the command Wait.
i found the best way to correct a dog is to carry a little toffee hamer around with you, wait for the dog to do something that you dont like and then without any hesitation smash it straight over the head, maybe a few times depending on what liberty the dog has taken, its not cruel, in the wild dogs use aggression to calm situations, they understand this form of correction. you dont have to worry about hurting their head with the hammer, their heads are rock hard.
first the easiest, you should teach a dog to jump on a command (get excited and just name it).
second hardest, teach no, when dog wants to jump without the command say no and avoid the jump, making him miss (you must be calm, so the dog understands its no the tome for play).
