Annete Bening for me was the better actress. Unlike Moore who sounded like an asthmatic while she cried, Bening tried to hold it in, yet she gave in to the tears. It's like Bening plays the role of a lesbian "father" with masculine stringency while yet leaving a big part for a feminine heart. She is just able to balance it all

Awesome movie. Excellent portrait of a modern unconventional family that fights to stick together. I love how this movie helps people see that same sex marriages are as normal as can be. The same arguments, the same issues, the same love as straight couples. Also that their kids can be perfectly normal instead of dis-functional people who must hump into everything they see. I'm straight but I'm a firm believer that love has no sex so I absolutely adored this movie. Cheers to Lisa Cholodenko!
