Bryce holds his hands higher at the commencement of the swing than practically anybody else. That generally makes it difficult to make contact with low balls while the bat is on its way up, but he has done fine so far. I expect he'll see a lot of low pitches in his career.
@GBDiddy wow u should be a professional hitting coach, i wonder what u think Albert Pujols could improve on, or maybe u can help A Rod with his swing. Just imagine the hundreds of hitting coaches Bryce Harper has seen over the years and the millions of dollars the Nationals have invested in his swing, yet all some random person had to say was to keep his hands lower. And to think, u most likely have no professional baseball experience at all, pure genius.
@jill1250 Who are you, Harper's mother? That was a pretty weak come back. How about you specifically address my points rather than give some drivel about "who the hell are you?" yadda yadda yadda. That's just weak sauce.
@LetsGetWilly It's less risky than pitching it to him anywhere else. With his hands being so high, they have to travel more to get to the lower balls. He'll have a tougher time getting the bat head down to the level of the ball first of all and then moving in an upward trajectory. Due to his strength and bat speed, he might still be able to do it successfully, but he makes it tougher than is necessary with that hand position.
@GBDiddy Haha! But seriously, he does hold his hands high in the cocked position, but that would actually make it easier to get to low balls as he drops his hands slightly during the swing (0:14). A high ball will be a little unnatural to hit. Although, if you want to throw it up on Harper, God Speed. -Fellow low ball hitter.
Notice the stride change between the 3-1 pitch and the 3-2 count. Very fundementally sound, great player

@GBDiddy Wow, I would never think to keep the down against Bryce Harper. That's a risky move.

@GBDiddy I was joking. Every pitcher is taught to keep the ball down.
