I have an Acer Aspire 5630 working just fine for years now, bought 2nd hand. I love my Acer but i'm keeping an eye out for an upgrade when I better one comes along.

That is probably power on lan, what you activated when holding down the power button and the wifi comes on. Not sure but maybe the ability to update the bios. The laptop might turn on when you plug it in because you don't have a battery in it. I don't know how old it is but acer laptops today are higher quality. Back then, yea they could of been a pos.

i have my acer aspire 4741z, we bought it last august 2010..but after 2 mos. dong the windows update then restarted it, the desktop became as same as windows 90 or whatever and shows messages that i cant understand what is the problem..then i shut it down & opened again, suddenly it only shows blank screen..so I back it were i purchase the notebook and try to fix it..after 1 hour they said i need to warranty the hard disk..the HARD DIsK is the problem..& now i am using it again..

had the same problem.apparently next to start up switch there is a tiny black peace of plastic that was pressed down by front cover.they took the front top cover off and let the plastic rod free.thats all it took?

This is a very easy fix providing you have the tools to do it. The gpu has failed, i have actually managed to fix every one of these that i have tried to fix. Acer are actually very good but its the Nvidia chip that has failed. This is due to the laws that changed about leaded and unleaded solder. It overheats and the unleaded solder fails. it needs reballed. chrismartin@live.co.uk or google Tayside Computing

I have an Acer Aspire 9301 that died just over a year ago. There are no beeps, no BIOS and only the power light is on when you try to boot. It was just out of warranty when it failed. We took it apart and reassembled it and it booted a couple of times and died again. :(

Hmmm, my computer doesn't show anything on the screen when I turn on the power button. What I did was plugging the energy cable in and letting it drain for like 1 hour, and then I could suddently start it without it stopped thinking during startup. Though now the powerbutton doesn't even work.

@striker543211 Try to boot with F11 or F12 (I don't remember which one, I have another one now) during startup and choose your HDD. If you can't see any Hard drive, that mean your hard drive is probably dead. If it's not, go to the bios and set the boot priority to the HDD.

@ThibaultAnd If the hard drive was bad it would boot up and give you a message saying it cannot find a source to boot into. Sounds like the LCD screen if you can hear the computer booting up and the power and drive lights are on. Like one guy said, it could be the graphics chip on the board, unless you dropped something on the lid.

I had this problem on my old acer laptop and all I did was remove the top hinge cover panel and then clean out the little button that gets pushed when the LCD is closed and It has been working perfectly ever since.

I have 2 Acer 9300 both had the same problem (BSOD) I fixed both of them with heat gun after I let them cool down for 5 minutes, I placed 1 penny on top of north and south bridge chips. so both Laptop are running cooler then before still running good.

Hi All!

As a professional laptop repairer, i could advise that this is no brand-related problem. The faulty is actually the NVIDIA GPU (do some googling).. I even found this problem in HP, Compaq, Dell and Toshiba laptops. One common thing: they all had a nvidia GPU inside! However, this problem is 90% repairable provided you go to the correct repair shop. TQ.

hi there if you have 1 long and 2 short beeps thats chipset problem but if you have just led power light thats is the confusion of the OS system then remove the battery and the power cable and hold the power button for about 60 seconds and then put back the battery back and you notebook be ok

I used to have a similar problem with Acer aspire 7720G, in which the monitor used to flicker badly. It worked good when I connect it to an external monitor. But when I fixed the monitor cable pin, the flicker stopped in the laptop lcd monitor. The monitor completely turns black when the cable pin is not plugged in a right position. Try to check this once, if it doesnt work, then u might be having problem with the inverter.

Ok ... after tow years of windows xp (not 64 bit) with 4 Go of ram on my acer aspire 9302, I have been back to 2.5 Go of ram ...

And guess what ? It works again !!!

Morals : Even if a part of the ram is ignored, don't put 4 Gigaoctets with the OS of yours, if it is not 64 bit OS ...

because after about tow years ...KABOOM !
