I like this version a lot but it lacks the melancholy of the original . Something about Doug's arrangements, the darker chord progressions, seemed to convey his sense of alienation, and the depth of his depression, better than any interpreter could do. Whitney's voice is almost too pure, it doesn't quite capture the longing, the teen "angst" that Doug's versions (and the GBs later) always expressed..

The original Gin Blossom version's rhythm is more upbeat than the lyrics portray.. Whitney and Scotty's version is more in line with the tone of the song, I believe..  I tried your slower, sadder version on my Guild jumbo and it fills in the rest of the deeper sad notes. Wonderful job, you two!! Thanks for your motivation.
