It wasn't just the editing that ruined this sequence - it was the staging. There's a principle in film-making called the "line of action". You imagine a line between the two principal characters, and you stay on one side of that line. If you 'cross the line', the characters appear to swap positions on the screen. It's confusing, so it's important that you avoid having to do it. This sequence does it every 0.2 seconds. Even in slo-mo it's hard to follow. A journeyman mistake. NO EXCUSE!
