  • hmm.... must be nice to be so excited by a mop head - simple pleasures!

  • What kind of machine do you have

  • whip it good.

  • it aint cruel i know. but caging them! it does look cruel

  • @strong263 You're right, it's NOT cruel. People look at the travel crates and think "Jail." The dogs look at them and think "dog house." Look at the dogs in their crates in the video -- they're obviously not upset about it at all. They're raised with them from the time they're puppies. It's a place for them to "get away" for some rest and quiet and it keeps them safe when travelling. Every so often you get a dog who doesn't care for the crate, so they hang out with their people instead.

  • @vfivev I've heard 32 miles per hour roughly

  • @vfivev It's more cruel to the fake rabbit!!

  • hay i was out with my whippet and we had a go at this in a field and she did the 100m in 7.03 is that any good ?????????and that was jsut me caling her if she had a thing to chace she should do it faster and the grass was long

  • Man oh man! Number 1 had some speed on him! Really cool video.

  • Ok so let's release our whippets into the wild and see how happy they are then. Any talk of animal cruelty is so far out of context in this day and age. My whippet wets her pants at the sight of a domestic cat let alone a wild kangaroo. Love your animal and love yourself. Peace xx

  • i have a grey hound and they are almost identical except from size and theyre so lovely

  • My whippet LOVES racing! Or well, she has been only doing lure coursing so far. It makes her so happy, really. You can see her face and eyes shining with accomplishment after she has catched the lure :D In Finland people treat their racers so well! I don't think I'd be lying if I said they get to eat better meals than trainers themself, lol.

  • At first I was like "this has to have been sped up." and then I saw the crowd at normal speed and I was like "Oh my god those things are fast."

  • pls tell me what top speed they reach..

    ihave whippet too

  • @shadmonk The fastest ones can get up to about 70 kilometres per hour.

  • @vfivev Whippets can't run 70kph lol Most would hit 55-57kph. A really, really fast one would get close to 60kph.

  • @vfivev no they don't! greyhounds maybe, but not whippets. whippets hit about 35mph.

  • @rob190364 the 35.5 mph is for a 100 yard calculated speed. A whippet has a higher point speed if measured.

  • That's a great video. I also have a whippet too!

  • Whippets would have to be one of the cutest dogs ever. I own one, and love him to death. Heaps fast too. Only thing - he's extremely lazy.

  • @HyperCam3Vids lol thats whippets for you, lazy inside, lightning out!

  • I love how they're all going "Put me in the box put me in the box! I'm ready to do this!" And then they're just blurs. Excellent.

  • Excellent video!

I have never seen straight line racing (only continuous loop lure coursing) and your video describes it very well.

I have only one whippet as I enjoy the other sighthounds as well, including primitives like the Portuguese Podengo, but there have been times when I fancy a pack of whippets, LOL!

    Thank you,

  • awesome. and what a sweet start-box.

  • it looks cruel that they have 2 be muzled.... but i geuss it's for everyone's health...

  • not cruel at all. they are used to the muzzles. and when they get in the car and approach the place that they run, they go crazy with excitement. i don't know one whippet that doesn't like to get into a car. they hope they are going to run like crazy.

  • In what way might the muzzles be cruel? They don't cause the dogs any discomfort. They don't mind them at all. In fact, they push their snouts into them with excitement when they get to the field!

  • At least there are some sports that aren't cruel agianst animals...

Still, it's strange to use an animal like THAT for something. ;/

  • I know the dogs enjoy the race itself, but I gotta feel sorry for the way they need to be muzzled, held, and caged before and after the race. Oh well, I'm sure their owners will wax on about how they are just members of the family and enjoy it all, but wouldn't thay have far more fun just running around with their families/peers in a park? Oh well, I guess domestic animals ultimately exist for the pleasure of their owners.

  • I'm not a Whippet racer myself, but I learned a little about the activity and the dogs while shooting the video. Your concern for the dogs is commendable but you needn't worry. The muzzles are just to prevent them from accidentally nicking themselves or each other with a tooth when they instinctively pounce on the lure. The muzzle is loose fitting and causes no discomfort. (Continued next comment)

  • (Continued) Their crate is their "house." It's a place of refuge. You do come across the occasional dog who isn't fond of it, but they're rare. You'll usually find those guys on a leash with their human. Finally, every family I've met at a race event DOES take the dog out to run in the park. This isn't INSTEAD of that, it's in addition to it. You're right about the race meets being fun for the humans, but more importantly, they're a chance for the dogs to act on their natural hunting instinct.

  • you are so morbib you can see the dogs enjoy it cause they are all trying to get the lure and plus alot of the dogs are itching to get in the trap

  • Maybe I'm jaded, but I don't see abuse...I see dogs having fun and people helping them express their natural instinct as much as possible in an organized fashion. The fact that these dogs have more of a job than the average couch potato pet dog probably doesn't mean much, but something tells me it's just as beneficial for the dogs to run as it is for the humans to organize and carry out the race to begin with.

  • personally, i wouldnt crate (cage) my whippets. i dont see the need. but its not so bad. they arent there forever, and they feel safe in one. its like a home or a fort to them. but once again, i wouldnt do it cuz i dont see the need.

  • Great vid, awesome to see whippets doing what they love. Just wondering, what song was playing on repeat in the beginning?

  • Both music tracks came out of the stock library that comes with Final Cut Studio. I added the strings at the top and bass drone on the third rep of the first piece with Pro Tools. The second track was pitched up 5 semitones in Garageband to match the key of the first piece, then slowed down in Pro Tools to match the tempo.

  • I really enjoyed the video. We just got back from a race and the dogs are going crazy while watching it!

  • That was wicked!!!!

One question though. What purpose does the test dog serve?

  • To test to make sure all the equipment is working correctly.

  • Thats the official party line. The truth is that they send out one expendable dog to test for land mines.

  • Great video

  • Wow, fantastic job, I LOVED it!

  • Excellent capture of the energy and fun of a race meet. Excellent!
