This is not rocksteady, but ska from 1966. That year ska was slowing down. In the autumn of 1966 ska was transformed tot 'rudeboy ska'. This recording is before the autumn. Probably the summer of the spring of 1966, when Bob Marley (who isn't on this recording) was in the USA. Rocksteady didn't came until 1967.
Guys and gals, I have to tell you all that Bob Marley had nothing to do with this recording. He was in Delaware at the time working in a hotel, I believe. The song is led by Bunny Wailer, but he only sings the chorus and the second part of each verse. The first part is somebody else, perhaps Beverly Kelso or Junior Braithwaite? Peter Tosh is there, but not singing lead.
You can't be serious. This better than the original (albeit overplayed) Bob Dylan version? It's OK, cute, but come on! I'm sure Marley would've laughed at this now.
Nice lead vocal by Bunny Wailer; notice how he has a very distinct style. He could meander in and out of falsetto. Bob Marley once said that he learned a great deal about vocals from Bunny Wailer for whom he had great respect.
@jayaruba The recording names Bunny Wailer as the lead vocalist (the credits). They sound somewhat similar, with that partly gravelly sound in their voice at times, giving it a raspy edge - they share that. But you can hear the difference if you listen real close. We are used to hearing many of the Wailers songs with Bunny meshing and harmonizing with B. Marley and we mistake the full harmonized sound as singularly Marley's voice alone. Bunny W. has a softer tone, and slightly lower octave.
The White Birds In The Morning Tree. Thats the work of a Rastaman

Does Beverly Kelso (pictured above) sing on this song or is that Junior Braitwaite singing the high notes?

Later, Bunny Wailer wrote "The Ballroom Floor" which is somewhat reminiscent of this song, and of course Bob Dylan!

What does Bob Dylan think? Does he love it or hate it?
