The first time I saw that building, I had to drive by it again several times. It's magnificent!  It's too bad that Detroit has become a sewer and ghetto. I can imagine the 1920s-1950s Detroit on par with the greatest cities in the world.

Such a beautiful building. I would love to go their but a bit nervous about getting caught by the Detroit police and busted for trespassing. So sad that trespassers have destroyed basically everything in and outside of the building. It's so sad whenever I am driving down I96 and look over at the building you can see right through the poor thing

matsie - what is the city's sentiments on vacant buildings such as these? Is there any initiative to tear this down or is it considered a monument perhaps. I was wandering if any of the tracks around there are still used and by what railroad? Detroit's economy is real bad but yet it is juxtaposed to Oakland County the third most affluent county is the U.S.

Well, there is a push toward tearing down such structures, but not for the train station in particular. There have been a lot of failed initiatives by different organizations/companies to renovate the building, but none have really stuck.

haha. I'm the blonde in the beginning of the clip. The rails are still used by Amtrak. They just have a much smaller station in a different location. Detroit's economy is bad, but there is also a lot of reinvestment in the city right now, which makes me happy.

haha. It's not so bad. We actually do it all the time. We're thinking that we might go up to Algonac over Thanksgiving Break and check out the abandoned mental institution. Also, a friend of mine want to go back during the day and spend the entire day and then night in the train station. See what we can find/see.
