i did this to myself when i got my first girlfriend almost 10 years ago, ^_^ . Just used some sterile scissors and mouthwash and it went very well, i can move my tongue out of my mouth 2 inches!
@SuperMelonz I did not have a large vein going through it, just a small one in a zig zag fashion. If I remember correctly it was probably about a millimeter in diameter, it stung like heck once I rinsed my mouth with mouthwash... If its any bigger than 1mm than i would probably leave it to a doctor.
It stopped bleeding pretty quick though, you need to have some gauze to keep under your tongue for a couple hours until it clots. Other than that really just make sure the scissors are sterile, you also need something to hold the skin too because it slips when you try to cut it.
Best way to sterilize is to boil the tools for half an hour in hot water or heat till red hot and let cool. I also dunked them in mouthwash just before doing it to be certain.

i had it done to my upper lip. i'm not sure if it's the same, but i didn't even know they were doing it. they didn't tell me about it, i just had disolveable stitches there and i didn't know why. so obviously i didn't feel anything.
I'm having mine done soon this month, but with some sharp tool not with laser. Are there any advantages of laser treatment other than having less blood and less pain? Does the laser treatment give better results for the tounge's movment and mobility? Is the laser helthier for the tounge in the long term?
i don't know about long term but i think theres less chance of problems short term like the quality og the outcome and maybe with healing using a scalpul could have more room for error i'm not sure but you should ask about it im getting it done with laser, it's supposed to be the best way

Im having mine done in 4 days, with a scalpel, it will take about 10 minutes and then I get it stitched with disovleable stitches!
Im scared :)
