rags to riches yeah, but this has a deeper meaning behind it, fate. and that good things can happen to good people, also the thing with his brother showed about repenting, and unbreakable love within, and to top it all of its set in the background of india (poverty)..so you see there are many different aspects of this movie which have made it different to any other 'rags to riches'
It's an amazing movie! So bright, dynamic and exiting!)
One thing which makes me sad are far-fetched opinions of some people. I'm sure Danny Boyle didn't try to show India how "trash country". And of course he's not a rasist. Why do people try to find nonexistent implication in this film...
This movie is amazing but it looks like the famous Full Monty in far 1997.
Similar lines: bad conditions of life(steelworkers fired and without money=lifestile of poor indian people), an attempt of redemption (a strip=a possible victory ina famous show), outcome unexpected(strip turned fine=victory at the show), final amazing performance(final funny strip=final amazing dance).

Slumdog Millionaire IS VERY OVERRATED!!! Yes I'm saying it..the Emperor Has No Clothes!!! It is a good story but IT IS NOT GOOD CRAFT. Whats with the silly dance dance thing during the end credits? This should have gone straight to DVD. I think its an attempt by western film makers to make an Indian style film that would appeal to Westerners and for that it is pretentious. The character portrayal is not enough that you really see them as real you just become an observer to the story.
Yes people like what they are told to like but that doesn't make it a good film. People liked Madonna but that doesn't make it good music. Awards do not mean its good film. If we want to hand out awards for things that make people feel good but have no substance or art we should give oscars out to a bottle of booze also. That makes people feel good and comes in pretty packages also.I think the western movie industry just lobbied the Academy so it could market a film with Indian sensiblites
This is the typical rags to riches thru struggle story line with the boy gets girl ending that Westerners love but there is nothing new in this film! I would have liked it if the main character failed, he reflected on the conditions in which he lives in and made a statement about the human condition but that would have made it a French film. ;) I mean the dance thing at the end credits, yes I know its an India thing but it doesn't have anything to do with the story!
This movie sucks ass Im sick of this indian shit movie winning all awards what happened to americas movies. If you have a fucking red dot on your forhead you might enjoy it. The globes and the Oscars are one of the most clueless organazations out there. So fuck off to everyone who likes this piece of shit movie
director is a racist vindictive scumbag. he denegrate a people. how the fuck he showed a kid jumping in a shit pit. what the fuck he choose an indian icon for the backdrop scene. why the fucking pussy he use a fat ugly ass indian to play a cop and give him a respected indian name. who the fuck he think he is to blatantly use slumscenes. what the motherfuck he show fat man passing gas. who the fuck will burn a child eye.thats a developing country with lots of modernization & beautiful people..
i hope Slumdog don't win any oscar. He is a racist British scumbag. Boyle is just laughing all the way to the bank by ridiculing a country and it's people. Some scenes in that movie is just not practical and absolutlely racist and disgusting.-the toilet scene, the fat policeman, and the hidu-muslim conflict. And one of the most respected name in india was given to the character of the fat policeman. very vindictive and racist. There are many good looking and brilliant actors in india.
FUCK U if u think india has changed. they live like its 500bc in villages and 1970 in the cities. india can go ahead and get nuked for all i care. fuck southasia
india has NEVER changed! look at the bullshit on 26/11. indians compare that shit to 9/11. 9/11 was an inside job. their shit was real. india is a dirty fuckin country. lemme guess, u went to india and visited a resort, right bitch? please you are an idiot if u think india has changed. 2nd in the world with aids, poverty at its highest, and kids with no parents. oh and did u watch the video where these college students beat the crap out of muslim students
"Slumdog" is something that everybody(people who don't live in slums) feel about the people who live in slums... the move name doesn't mean to demean or insult the slum people...if you watch the movie they actually showed their sufferings and hardships they face just to earn that days' bread... which many (non-slum people) take it for granted...if you watch the movie with plain heart anybody who is angry on the title of this film will also realize the above, so stop the fuss...
indias a fucked up country. im glad im not there. i went there when i was 6. i went through krazyier shit then that kid in the movie. but this is a fictional movie
First off, it's a movie not a documentary. They show the poor parts because that is the base of the story, a story of a poor child from the slums and his journey. It's merely a story and a beautiful one at that.
Maybe if you want to look further than the story which i don't think is necessary as again this is not a documentary but a story, they may show the poor parts because westerners are usually ignorant to it and don't realize there is all this pain and suffering going on. Its an eye opener.
OK! But, you knw something we Indians are tired of the portrayal of India by the western media, where as similar levels of poverty and crazier things exist in China, wat the heck? even cina shows us as some kind of 3rd worlders in their movies, why is the west afraid of sowing bad parts of china? Ok leave that apart, even they show good parts of Johannesburg and Bangkok, but not the good parts of Mumbai or New Delhi. hope you understand What Ia m trying to say. We are tired of this stereotyping!
Yes i can see why you might think that but were are not stereotyping. The movie certainly not. I know there are rich parts and there are poor parts of India. We might focus on the poor parts because were concerned and like a said there is a lot of ignorance and we want to show this truth so people understand and something can be done about it because in this day and age it shouldn't happen and its upsetting.
To be honest though i have never seen anything like what i saw in Slumdog Millionaire so it's not broadcast like you think. I was probably a bit ignorant before the film because i wasn't aware of these slums where the film was based. So for me its not only been a fantastic movie and a fairy-tale but it's been an eye opener and an education. This can only be a good thing. I can assure you where i'm from (London/Surrey) you are not portrayed or stereotyped as poor.
one more thing i wud point out, is that, there was a scene of hindu muslim riots, only half truth was told, watch the following video, until the end watch?v=iZT1--Kighg&feature=related

I saw this movie, it was okay, highly forgetable though. Wall-e and The Dark Knight were far deeper, more, entertaining, and made a hell of a lot more impact on peoples' emotions. Don't get me wrong this movie was alright just not great.
are u abnormal or what? Slumdog is the best movie ever produced in Hollywood. It will win atleast 8 of the 10 oscars for which it has been nominated. TDK is a garbage movie and so is Wall E
lol it is notthe best movie produced in hollywood.if the same film was made my an indian it wudnt have made so much money or wud have recieved so much appreciation.its like a diff approach but regardless i agree its a well made film and the credit goes to its film makers. am glad a bollywood director did not make this film or they wud haev ruined it.and the dark knight is shit as per u? lol its the 2nd most successfull film in the world after titanic.
how did the dark knight impact peoples emotions also slumdog was very emotional what the kids went through, with his brother dying, also wen that kid had his eyes takin out for bein talented
It was a very emotional film fantastically written and produced. Just one thing though, i don't think that kids eyes were taken out because he was talented, it was because they want to disable the children so people feel sorry for them when begging for money. The same reason some of them were missing limbs.
Capricorn83 I agree! This is the typical rags to riches thru struggle story line with the boy gets girl ending that Westerners love but there is nothing new in this film!
