this band is the berries best.....tobacco is usually in the shadows "working his magics" as a friend of mine says...nice to see him out in the open....how can anyone not like this band?
Hey guys, if you like blackmothsuperainbow, I have just released an original track on my channel:) Its got a pretty similar feel to it, so I would really appreciate it if some of you might consider checking it out:) Thanks so much guys:)
what makes the music even more genius is the members do not try and be something they're not. like, "style" or whatever. regular people making amazing music. i think more "artists" should consider it... just sayin'
Holy crap I've never seen them in real life before, yet I have almost every song they ever made. They all look cool, I think it fits with the band's theme.
Although I always pictured BMSR as the dried up grandmother from Spongebob who bought the chocolate that made her live longer. Only it was gray.
@TheThodBand of course im not saying thats you HAVE to listen to me, i'ts your choice, fucking wig out man.......that is if you actually know what your doing.
My friend had the same attitude about drugs, the harder the better.
He took a blotter square one day and ended up in the hospital 4 hours later. The blotter was a 4-way nd he didn't know.
BMSR's approach is so refreshingly modest, no fake glitz and glamour, but a truly mindblowing celebration of harmony. What a pleasant difference to the mainstream!
is this at good records? If it was i was there. just kinda walked in and they were all sitting on the floor doing there thing. It was pretty amazing to watch live.
@PyramidHeadX Oh of course, and I'm not saying they should get a real one live. Sampling a Mellotron even seems a bit impersonal for BMSR to do. I like that they do different renditions live yet still use vintage instruments like the Rhodes, but to me the Mello makes Sun Lips.
@PyramidHeadX Yeah man. Since the Mello is basically "non-programmable," it's cool to hear BMSR when they use it so organically. It's almost as if the songs are vehicles for the Mello flutes on some tracks (mostly Dandelion Gum.)
Equally I like Tobacco's Maniac Meat, because he tells me he doesn't need the Mello flutes to WIN GAMES.
@Jezro Yeah the Mello flutes are used quite (forever) heavily on Dandelion Gum and that makes it all the more awesome. It's because of that album that I started using Mello flutes in my own music.
Maniac Meat is a pretty decent LP. However, I prefer Fucked Up Friends, it's not quite so heavy as Maniac Meat.
@PyramidHeadX Ahahah @ your Forever Heavy joke...and yeah me too! I used it as the basis for a couple things but have since strayed away from using the flutes for catchy melodie,...I was starting to sound too BMSR-y. Instead I use them to reinforce chords with simple intervals...major 3rds sound great with it.
I like Fucked Up Friends just as much as Maniac Meat but in two different ways, ya know. Almost like good and evil. Yum.
Do you post any of your music? Would love to hear.
@Jezro Yeah, it's hard to not use them for the melody, but it does work nice when reinforcing chords.
I haven't posted any of my music yet. Though I have recorded songs, they all need work on the drums as my drummer is currently working on that and i only have simple loops recorded using my Kaossillator. However I will probably post them soon (hopefully that is).
For me, an old faithful bugger from the legendary summer of '76, this is an invigorating breath of fresh air. Lovely to say the least. Exactly the kind of gig i long to stumble upon shopping at the Good Record Store....
yeah seriously she is probably a lot cooler than you... she can seriously jam on the drums and is helping to make some of the most amazing music of the last 5 years...
finally some music that doesn't sound like regurgitated bubble gum garbage. this band will mentor many other bands to come. evolution of digital media as organic expression is fresh and ethereal. bmsr is a new category of sound.
well people brought it up..so i thought id lay some truth down....they were commenting on here look so i thought id add my 2 cents....of course looks is not what i listen to this band for
i just know i'd love to see this band, too bad i'm in the u.k. still theres always youtube. btw, the drummer is scrumpsious too ( imo ) - in answer to the other derogatory comment.
This is probably a dumb question, but I know very little about the subject: Do they use a talkbox or a vocoder? Maybe something else? Fill me in, please.
Does anyone know if BMSR uses sequencers? Or do they do it live? From this vid it looks live to me. Either way their drummer IS the shit. Tough to play rhythm in a band like this... Timing has to be impeccable.
I just stumbled onto this band a couple of days ago through that song Tobacco did with Aesop Rock a couple of days ago. Really great band, and from the looks of this video they're great live too.
uhmazing! i want to see black moth so bad live. does anyone know which one tobacco is? yea i didn't expect the singer or whatever to be so buff, haha. fuckin awesome to jam to, ONE LOVE.
