Disliking Selway's percussion? You'd better not listen to any more Radiohead albums, because they all feature Selway. Disliking their politics? They've always been political. What do you think The National Anthem or Electioneering were about?
@Outrjs lmao. Stairway sounds just fine to me. It's not weak like the TKoL tracks. And most likley they'll have "PITTER PATTER BULLSHIT WAAAAH" on The Daily Mail, so might as well cry in your bitch corner now.
This is a new song yet it's not a new Thom Yorke song and is not on the king of limbs ablum either. hmmm so and wait it's called the daily mail. Radiohead is releasing this whole newspaper album. How ironic, don't you think. I'm thinking they will release this song on tuesday or later as TKOL2
@LeWeYfilms I can agree that it can be alienating when a band you love seems to come out against something you believe in, but they have their right to stand up for their own beliefs. And I think we can all be open minded and "liberal" enough to accept them for that :)
If any band inspires great music, I don't care who it is. As long as it comes out. I'm of people shouting out the superiority of their favorite band over another great band. There is so much shit out there, celebrate the decent, forget the rest.
the first two minutes are a bit of a worry. Cause, for or against, it sounds like something coldplay would do, it REALLY does. but i like it by the end
the climax of this song is so intense and groovy i love it!
specially because of the build up! it starts of as a slow ballad and boom it explodes in ur face. the vocal delivery is amazing. so much passion, keep doing what your doing mr. yorke :D
True, this song may have had a slight resemblance to Coldplay. but from a musicians stand point, dont we all influence each other? its not a matter of who sounds like who because when it comes down to it, it all revolves from the core, Blues. and Thom is just a perfect example of pure musical genius. Hes my hero.
@bairswan Yes, because Coldplay were the first band to ever play piano. This sounds like early Bends stuff - a sound that Coldplay themselves *um* borrowed.
im a big fan of coldplay and die hard fan of radiohead but these campariosons and so called simlarities i really dont care i. i think of each band differently, and i treat each band seperetely, leaving out each other while doing coz it will lead to problems with other fans when some one says there alike coz again it might cause some drama or an akward momnet, but both are great bands its how u think of them as a group and who is better and that is all opionon my friend
oh man, you're going to get so many thumbs down for that one :P No, Thom's from Radiohead who were making great music long before Coldplay came along. Coldplay's still a great band though but give Radiohead a try if you want to see where they got a lot of their influences.
This sounds nothing like a Coldplay song. The first couple minutes, it's quiet and cool like Coldplay but the piano is far better composed than anything Coldplay has done. The song's climax shows an understanding of rhythm that Coldplay as never shown. Yorke has managed to create a song that follows the Radiohead formula of a slow build up in an original way, with new influences and sounds. Fantastic. Although he is getting a bit wordy with the lyrics.
well now given your handle is "ThomYorkesHead" and not ChrisMartinsBrain, are you not a fan of Coldplay? And what's to compare? I like both and see many similarities in their use of chord progressions, phrasing and elements of their composition. I also appreciate the differences and am thankful for both bands influence on western popular music.
Interpretation from an experienced Thom Yorke translator: WHERES THE TRUTH, WHATS THE USE BEEN HANGIN ROUND, LOST AND FOUND IM IN YOUR HEAD, ALBERT SAID FAT CHANCE, NO PLAN NOW WERE GOING, FOR HUMAN LIFE YOULL KEEP TIME, YOULL BLOW MINDS YOURE FAST TO LOSE, YOURE WIN OR LOSE YOU DROP A CUE, YOURE BACK AGAIN YOURE PRESIDENT, FOR ALL LIVES FOR ALL ABOVE, THAT FLIES IN THE SKY THE PEACE ON THE EARTH, THE FISH IN THE SEA THE VOICE COMING...
Thanks for this. Kinda got a You And Whose Army vibe which i dig. So good to have Thom STILL writing such quality after all these years. I think Lotus Flower and Give Up The Ghost are my fave new ones. Peace.
yeah you mean like a intense part that has been kept inside for the whole song, just like We suck young blood, like you said, and You and whose army =) this man is a magician,.he makes magic...

This sucks, his older material has a greater caliber than this shit that seems to only appeal to people vanity now. I mean "it's dedicated to the open minded and liberal people of this country" GTFO York more like "You stupid liberal bitches are gonna make me some more money, so tell your liberal friends about me and keep eating my shit up."

You're actually the one who is close minded and proud moron or you wouldn't be jumping to conclusions dip shit, but then again you wouldn't know realize that, since you're to stupid to think that far ahead idiot.
I don't think you realise that this song will probably change drastically over the course of the next year or so. A lot of Radiohead songs start like this & end up being some of the best songs of their generation.
Obviously you're entitled to your opinion, but it largely varies from mine, each to their own I suppose, but I think you may be proven wrong if he decides to show it to the rest of the band as one of the tracks for the new albums, they will add a new dimension to it.
I love Radiohead as much as the next over-obsessive person, but I feel like Thom's new work, is rather mediocre but still damn good but still rather mediocre. Not that I could do better, anyway. But, considering the RH catalog...
Wow, very beautiful. I wonder if this will be an RH song, Atoms for Peace song or just a Yorke solo piece. ?
Thom seems to be putting out A LOT of new music lately. He must be in creative overload! It's been a great year for new music considering not having an album out (by the band or solo).
wowsers. different stuff except for the major minor switches; a lot of new yorke material like recent song titles and lyrics seem unusually cliche for someone of his caliber but if anyone can make cliche an artistic lean it's tchock. And perhaps its not so much cliche as it is straightforwardness. brilliance regardless.
Fuck this is amazing!

I heard the new version of Staircase and Hitler is right.
TOO MUCH PITTER PATTER BULLSHIT.
I hope they don't ruin this song as well.
Radiohead ruined Staircase.
Still get to have an acoustic version. RAW but still better than the clean version.

Coldplay is fine. But they just don't have Radiohead's innovation or originality. They are more a product of western music than an influence on it.
