I think the most insulting thing is the way these people drive through the wreckage with their cameras and fear in their eyes. Get out and walk, if you are gonna rubberneck, talk to the people about whats been happening. Fucking white picket fence americans. I myself am white b.t.w. like that matters . where is your humanity? shame.
@ArmoricanBoy I live in Naples, Fl. A place with no heritage or sensitivity. New Orleans is my soul home and it's my reality since the 50's. Your so right about talking to the people this is so important. There are a lot of people hurting badly. If it's no more then lending a shoulder to cry on.....Being a good LISTENER. You feel connected and learn fast how you can help. My support has and will always be with New Orleans. I'm glad this vid came out and seen it. Thank-You...
I love New Orleans, i've only been there twice, to visit my cousins, uncle and aunt in Mandeville.. As i live in Norway, which is like a 10 hour flight or something over the atlantic ocean, I'm hoping that I can go back there somewhere soon in the future, and see all the good things, and also the bad things.. As one person I know i cant do much, but if I could do something, I would definitely do it.. My dream is to move there for the rest of my life, and be a part of the city's heart & soul..!
@Ringnes85 I don't want to be "just a tourist", I've felt like New Orleans is "home" to me ever since I visited, which is a long time ago now, back in 1996.. I also feel for everybody who has gone through so much, and yet, ur still hanging on because u love Louisiana.. And JDHallow; what kind of a human being are you, these people who lost their homes, DID have hurricane ensurance, but didnt get SHIT.. Imagine losing your HOME, and EVERYTHING u have ever worked for, nobody deserves that, NOBODY!
I think its horrible what these people have gone through and are still going through! what happened to our country??? arent we suppose to stand together and help eachother in hard times.... I say anyway these poor people that lost everything in that natural disaster can make money to get back on their feet go for it
this video might be old but thats okay. Not everybody has been able to do good for themselves.I bounced back so because I work. hard.@JdHallow ur not even worth all the words I could throw your way dude. But I will say when you get a call 4 oclock in the morning and its your family saying pack your bags we leavin,Let me see you leave your home lose everything and never be able to go back .And see if you can get a job and stop bitching about it, you asshole!!.And flood insurance meant nothin u.dick
Whoever posted this is a f*cking idiot. Get over yourselves. Its human nature to see destruction. Besides, what kind of moron owns a house in a hurricane area and doesn't have flood insurance? Why are we supposed to feel bad because you didn't make the right decision? Get a job and stop bitching about a NATURAL disaster.
@JDHallow for your dumbass people had flood insurance dat was the thing dey didn't pay so u saying everybody from florida on up including texas should move u sound fucking dumb and ignorant check this out if u had a fire at your house would u want people giving a tour for people to see your house destroyed but u r not making any money off of it but they are
@JDHallow what kind of a human being are you, these people who lost their homes, DID have hurricane ensurance, but didnt get SHIT.. Imagine losing your HOME, and EVERYTHING u have ever worked for, nobody deserves that, NOBODY!
God bless the ppl in this vid. I remember getting in a fight with the owner of Gray Line tours (via phone) on WWL Radio one night, just after they decided to do the tours. Making money off of people's suffering. Why did the media cover up the fact that the victims were fighting back like this? Did y'all get a cut from Gray Line?
Bigmouth Deke Bellavia from WWL, with his fake ebonics sez "What problem you got wit da world seeing what happened". Well duh! It's called raping the victims!
Enough with the conspiracy theories, if the white man hated new orleans that much, they would have just cut welfare. You give the gov't far too much credit, you honestly think bush could have pulled something off like that?? Look at the iowa floods, you can go there and it is completely recovered. Drive through St. Bernard, it hasnt been touched, but there are people drinking in the street at 10 AM. The card has been played, get the fuck to work or stop bitching. Everybody is tired of hearing it
"Natural disaster"? That's phrase is the most dated thing about this video. Everyone in New Orleans knows now the flooding of New Orleans wasn't a natural disaster like the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, it was an engineering failure, like Chernobyl. Gross neglegence by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers caused the Federal Flood.
@mhobren Dude, this video is 3 years old. If you LISTENED to the piece you would have also heard him say nearly TWO Years laters. Katrina occured in 05' sir. Do your math and stop hating.
Quit whining and get to work! It's been 5 years. I'm a New Orleanian, too. Stop capitalizing off your "poor-me trip!" If you weren't standing out there with signs, but instead helping those who are trying to rebuild the city, those tourist buses wouldn't come through your neighborhood!
@mhobren try reading the date on the video you idiot. or listening to what he's saying. this was filmed and aired on TV in 07. put on youtube at the beginning of 08. you're making yourself sound like a jackass.
new orleans is just sorry they need to quit bitching and do something about it im live in mississippi you dont see us bitching and complaining we rebuilding
Shut the phaq up, how are you going to rebuild without the proper means and funds. new orleans one of the number one tourist attraction cities america but where the money going. Not to the People. Live New Orleans then talk.
... But what if going on those tours motivated people to contribute to rebuilding efforts, or to encourage 'the powers that be' to get their collective butts in gear on it? What if the photos they took were taken home and shown to others, who in turn did a little to help New Orleans recover?
I don't know the whole story of these bus tours, but I do hope and pray that some good came out of what looks like exploitation of suffering.
thats all good what your saying and all but truth is these folks are just looking for ohhs and ahhs. now if you touch one out the thousands then thats a plus. but these tours or promoted like hey look at the awsome devestation of the storm. and thats what there paying to see.
From what I've heard the levees failed as they werent up to the job, having been done on the cheap to increase the profit margin. So an engineering disaster in a sense but rather a systemic disaster showing what happens when public money meets private free enterprise.
great video. I totally agree with you. I remember seeing those nasty tour buses going around like 3 - 5 months after the storm thinking WOE! are these people really taking time away from their jobs to come gape at our tragedy?
Have you ever heard the expression "Out of sight, out of mind"? Yes, it is a crime so little has been done to restore the broken neighborhoods, but where will the outrage come from if people don't see the truth of the situation with their own eyes?
I was taken around the 9th ward last April while in NO for a teacher's convention. I didn't take a tour bus; I went with a friend who was living down there and wanted me to see what had happened. While I did feel like a voyeur, I don't regret going and seeing in person how the US of A failed a whole city. I am more than ever convinced that the current administration should be brought up on criminal charges, for Katrina and for this needless unending war.
Wow they actually tried to bann this when other ppl are suffering out there in Orleans. He's trying to convince to the whole world to give at least a little support to restore Orleans back. And they are so racist to try to get that shit off the air
Give me a break, I want people to see what happened here. You seem a rebel without a cause. If you want to be ticked...take it out on the mayor. He's failed everyone.
fuckin well right...this some real shit. this vid sums up all my feelings i had when i was guttin my house in early '06 and how pissed the fuck off i got havin all these peoples drivin by my house and video tapin me like i was some kinda fuckin animal at the audobon zoo or something. hop you don't mind but i'ma put this shit on my favs list round.

Nice job guys - never thought about the city this way. Then again, I also assumed that things might be well on the way to being rebuilt by now.
But tour buses? Come on... That's a little much - you wanna know what it's like? Get out of the bus and lend a hand.
Thanks!
