Venom defined extreme metal back in 1979-1982. They took all the elements of music that they liked and overdid those elements to the maximum extent of their abilities. They obviously had many influence that they took to those extremes, which is why you can't pin them down to a specific genre. @hankaligali well just because a genre was inspired by another doesnt mean at the same time your listening to the insperational genre. Because if we used that mentality then i guess that means when your listening to black metal your listening to elvis.
@Metalhead732 I meant it in a symbolic way. Anyways, "true" fans sucks because they dont understand music. "everything else is gay but this music" kind of fans dont see that without this "gay" music, music would just stand still until someone invents something new. So to truly understand music, you must understand ALL genres of music, not just one. Every musician knows that, so this "true" thing is just stupid. There are bands I dont like but I still respect them as artists.
@hankaligali You know i kind of have to agree with you. people are always stereo typing metal yet all the metalheads turn around and judge every one elses music. But at the same time i think you can call something "gay" when you have listened to it and didnt like it. because. i have heard all the other genres i used to listened to them when i was a kid and i personally think that i can safely say that Rap, Hip-hop, New age rock, and country all do suck for many reasons but that is another argum
@crimson0crusader What you just said really shows your lack of knowledge of heavy metal. In fact that is one of the reasons metal evolved into so many sub genres such as death, thrash, black and speed, because many heavy metal bands took major influence from punk bands such Black flag, Discharge, and The Exploited.
Naw metalcore was influenced by that oussy new hardcore shit. Its not even close to punk. I mean, there are actually metal and hardcore bands, but im pretty sure they are reffered to as metallic hardcore. Then only band I know of that is metal and hardcore is Converge.

And slayer NEVER DID A FUCKING COVER ON THEIR FIRST ALBUM all songs were written by Jeff Hanneman or Kerry King
Im not gonna argue whether punk is good or not i dont really care but it is "not" the main influence for early thrash metal.
@ironm4id3n .. It's an accepted fact that punk influenced Thrash Metal. Everyone from wikipedia to hardcore thrash fans know it
I wasn't talking about their first albums. Metallica and Slayer both released CDs full of covers, Metallica's included a lot of punk covers, Slayer's was an entire CD full of punk covers. In Metallica's case, a lot of them were from their early days. They WERE influenced by punk, whether stupid fucks like you see it or not.
"Heavy metal is a genre of rock music that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s With roots in blues-rock and psychedelic rock [] The NWOBHM was a heavy metal movement that started in the late 1970s. [] NWOBHM bands toned down the blues influences of earlier acts, incorporated elements of punk.. [] Thrash metal is a subgenre of heavy metal [] traced to the late 1970s and early 1980s when bands began incorporating the sound of the NWOBHM [] a separate movement from punk rock and hardcore.."
@miikedio Thank you. it's true, metal came first, but THRASH metal is a hybrid of hardcore punk and metal. If you don't know that then you can hardly call yourself a metalhead.
@themixteco666 You're on a Venom video insulting punk and bands that play simple stuff.
Venom are the gods of simple. Venom are the gods of incorporating punk into music. Venom couldn't play anything when they started playing, and you're saying bands who don't know how to play anything but chords are poseurs?
@thecuani It's a well-known fact that Venom had no skill with the instruments they were playing when they started out; they were a bunch of punks.
They created some of the simplest music. Some of the simplest, catchiest, and best music. They're the perfect example for the "you don't need to be good to make good music" argument.
@miikedio agreed!! most metal bands that began in the early, mid 80s' and early 90's will tell you straight the fuck out... they liked the early punk, and thrash days... Slayer admits this many times... alot of death metal bands from the early 80s will tell you they were influenced by stuff like Venom and Bathory and DEATH... and many late 70's early 80's hardcore punk... look into your metal my friend! if you cant respect real punk rock then you should fuck off out the metal scene dude!
People seem to think metal just popped up out of nowhere. Thrash metal (the precurser to most modern extreme metal thanks to bands like Hellhammer and Venom) were influenced by Punk in their aggression. Without bands like Venom, most extreme metal might not be what it is today, because as primitive as they were, they influenced Hellhammer, Bathory, Possessed, Metallica, Mayhem, Death and Slayer to pick up their instruments and shred!
It's in the name. METALhead. not Punkhead. Some metalheads listen to punk aswell, but a real metalhead listens to metal. Otherwise he would'nt be a metalhead
Metalhead with punk would MetalPunk venom have a song called that on the calm befor the storm album :) underated album i think...well venom are underrated in general
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I don't listen to shit labeled metalcore. I listen to Deathcore. Apparently Whitechapel, Carnifex, Thy Art Is Murder, and other bands I happen to like now are of punk and hardcore origin.
Anyway, my comment was aiming for shit to be flung..and you should know that this band is nothing but a joke. If you are not listening to metal for the music, you must be there for the meaning. And as this band holds negligible talent, you must be one of the scene fags of the seventies.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Well I will leave that to the opinion of the masses. Though in my mind there is nothing to be had but groans from how corny punk and "We are evil and have guitars!" kind of music is. I like real shit. I continue with this...
Do you even know that your "deathcore" or any other Thrash/death/ and even black metal bands would not exist without bands like black flag, misfits and other punk/hcpunk bands. Shut the fuck up you fucker and let the people enjoy the music.
@DanteLeblanc lol, another kid who is listening to modern "metal"... what do you like about Core? they have exactly same vocals as Donald Duck has in Disney cartoons... Venom is true METAL and core is just SHIT, do you see difference?
Punk is music and metal is music. But all that matters is THE RIFF. Venom Rules.

And slayer NEVER DID A FUCKING COVER ON THEIR FIRST ALBUM all songs were written by Jeff Hanneman or Kerry King
Im not gonna argue whether punk is good or not i dont really care but it is "not" the main influence for early thrash metal.
ironm4id3n 11 months ago
@ironm4id3n .. It's an accepted fact that punk influenced Thrash Metal. Everyone from wikipedia to hardcore thrash fans know it
I wasn't talking about their first albums. Metallica and Slayer both released CDs full of covers, Metallica's included a lot of punk covers, Slayer's was an entire CD full of punk covers. In Metallica's case, a lot of them were from their early days. They WERE influenced by punk, whether stupid fucks like you see it or not.
Even Iron Maiden was influenced by punk.
ThazuaBlackarrow 11 months ago
@miikedio I agree, even bands like Bathory and Sodom are influenced by some hardcore punk.

@themixteco666 not. it doesent matter how many chords they use. its the music thats the thing. and venom is black metal
Sk8tboard123 1 year ago
@themixteco666 You dumbAss even metallica loved punk and the misfits and metallica are one of the bands that started thrash metal !
minamikhail 1 year ago
@themixteco666 You're on a Venom video insulting punk and bands that play simple stuff.
Venom are the gods of simple. Venom are the gods of incorporating punk into music. Venom couldn't play anything when they started playing, and you're saying bands who don't know how to play anything but chords are poseurs?
How fucking stupid are you?
ThazuaBlackarrow 1 year ago
@ThazuaBlackarrow what are you talkin bout man??? venom... simple... couldnt play anything
are you retarded
thecuani 1 year ago

Well I will leave that to the opinion of the masses. Though in my mind there is nothing to be had but groans from how corny punk and "We are evil and have guitars!" kind of music is. I like real shit. I continue with this...
Spooky men in tights and makeup fucking fail and
Rape & Torture are FTW!

Do you even know that your "deathcore" or any other Thrash/death/ and even black metal bands would not exist without bands like black flag, misfits and other punk/hcpunk bands. Shut the fuck up you fucker and let the people enjoy the music.

You need to either A. Remove yourself from the gene pool or B. Start showing some respect for the forefathers of metal.
