  • Wow you are so stupid. This was not a bribe it was a cool gimmick I personally know people at EA and this was meant as a cool keep safe. You just burned away a collectors item. You fucking moron.

  • Burn money given as a joke about greed in response to joke and complain it should have been given to charity

    OR

    Cash check, give to charity

    Adurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  • A low point. Seriously, sometimes I think Kotaku is run by little kids. The articles are sometimes really immature and sometimes this happens.

    How stupid can someone be?

    This Stupid.

  • Smug jackass- doing a "good deed" for the sake of a youtube video is retarded. As others have pointed out, it fell on you to donate it.

  • You could have cashed it and gave half away.

  • you could've at least framed it, dick..

  • atleast the box is awesome!

  • Fuck I'd keep that check, it looked awesome!

  • Its soo stupid, obviously its a promotional fun thing that EA has done. But if thats a Ralph Steadman handwritten piece of art this is blasphemy!

  • Okay, I understand why he burned it, and I think that it was insanely shitty of them to bribe reviewers, but he just burned a handwritten check by Ralph Steadman (Hunter S. Thompson's personal illustrator, look it up), what the hell was he thinking?...this makes me want to kill something...

  • hmmm, haven't seen someone burn perfectly good money like that since the new Aluminum MacBooks come out.

  • I'm amazed by some of the comments here...he's burning it not to show his superiority, but to show he's going to remain objective. If you cash a big ol' check from a publisher, that's a conflict of interest to be sure (it's not right, ethically). If he cashed it, maybe he wouldn't be entirely honest when it comes time to review it? At least we know this way that the check had nothing to do with it.

  • How many times do you fucking idiots need to post " dude your evil, why didnt you give the money charity" etc etc. Fucking moronic youtube culture, Im pretty sure my intelligence has now decreased after reading these comments. And to think this whole time i thought the internet was making humans smarter. God help us all.

@ tminustech- What kind of a delusional universe to do you live in? Please tell me your not serious

  • DUUDE THAT CHECK WAS AWESOME!!! why did you burn it?? if you were not gonna cash it, at least keep it and sell it 50 years down the line on ebay for like a million!

  • You're all trolls posting in a troll video.

  • @samus098 Best reply ever.

  • You could of sent that check to me so I can donate it to help treat my best friends cancer. Fucking asshole.

  • @tminustech LOL UR FRIEND HAS CANCER AHHAAHAHAHAHAHA

  • This makes you an asshole.

Now EA is 200$ richer. Dick.

  • Incidentally, even if you do believe in christian mythology, you are aware that the "seven deadly sins" and the writings of Dante are about as Christian as The DaVinci Code. They're stories written about Christian mythology. Even the church doesn't claim them as their teachings.

Then again, if you're gullible enough to have religion in the 1st place, you're apt to believe anything, such as the belief that burning a $200 check will make you look like something other than an obnoxious, smug jerk

  • You like attention, don't you?

I repeat the comment of ToxieDogg: you, sir, are an asshole.

  • @williamjschweitzer He's the editor in chief of a very popular video game blog. This video was to demonstrate that EA is pretty much bribing reviewers.

  • Last time I checked people, when someone burns/destroys/doesn't use a check, there is no money lost. It's not like a gift card. If he cashed it then the bank would have taken the $200 from EA's account. If anything, what EA should have done is set up a separate account where all the checks would have taken money from, and then whatever money was left over(representing the people who did not cash it) would be sent to a charity.

  • bro you should have cashed it just because

  • i feel like watching full metal alchemist brotherhood ......it has clear definition of seven deadly sins as a homomculus(artificial humans) you sir fit in about 2-3/7 of those sins .....

  • You are guilty of having your head up in your ass. As there's a high probability none of that judeochristianic bullshit is real, this doesn't make you a sinner, just a douche.

  • wow... you should be condemed to rot in the 10th circle of hell... worst than the treacherous... you belong to the 10th circle, The Dumb Asses...

  • You could have given it to charity you WASTER!!!

  • this is what you did; you turned down a charitable donation to feed your own sense of pride. disgraceful.

  • MAY THE GOD OF YOUTUBE, EA, YAHOO, GOOGLE WILL TROLL YOU!

  • WHY DID YOU DESTROY THE ARTWORK??????? I woulda just voided the thing and kept the artwork.

  • after I watched this video, I think I've commited a sin, which is ENVY...."why do you burn that cheque?? lucky bastard....."

  • How do u get one of those

  • @dryice20 You had to pre-order the super ultra elite edition of the game.

  • Wow....a legit 200 dollar check and you burn it? ROFL.....what a fuckin moron. The least you could of done was give it to someone in need.

  • Lets see...burning the check for no reason adds on to global warming, not cashing the check and not spending it means less money in circulation and money that EA still has not to mention people in dire need of money to pay back the devil and get their soul back, and plus by burning the check you did something good for yourself and that itself is greed.

  • NNNOOOoooooooooo!!!!!

  • would have kept it for myself instead of burning/cashing it in. It makes for an awesome collectible

  • And you couldve donated that money as well instead of wasting it. I'm sure a family who is poor or a homeless man couldve used it. I think what you did by burning it is just as bad as Ea by sending it. Don't show us your wastefullness.

  • What a retard. You suggest "donating it to charity" after you burn it... why the fuck didn't you cash it and then give it the money to charity? Now I understand why site is a piece of shit that steals all its news from GAF. You're gaming journalism at its worst Crecente, even Lolstiq shits all over your site.

  • fuckin retard

  • Why would you not cash the check?! WHY WOULD YOU BURN IT WHILE WE'RE ALL IN AN ECONOMIC CRISIS?! People just don't make sense anymore, I mean, shit, burning stuff that could help out many people...

  • If I was given a cheque for $200, I'd cash it in a second

  • was ea hoping to achieve better review with this..?

still the box and check very stylishly crafted

  • Boo. Give it to Child's Play.

  • you could have at least donated yourself, EA games probably has better things to do

  • its a lose lose sin-ario

  • How is it greedy to receive 200 bucks that was given to you...

  • what an idiot :|

  • lol people seem stupid sometimes. Why to burn it when you can spend it (or donating to charity, lol?) or just have it as decoration or something, a collectible.

IMO, you should have taken the cash. lol

  • this guy is a dumbass!

  • So I get a hot naked chick in the box of lust? How tempting lol!

  • why didnt you donate it to charity you fucking jackass?

  • Because it's EA's money, and they already donate millions of dollars?

  • Why did he get a check for???

  • You're an idiot. I would have kept the entire box and check without cashing it as a collectable.

  • well thats not greedy... but its not a good thing either like ddust102 said you could give it to charity instend of letting it collect dust in the middle of the room on a table somewhere used as an ash tray or whatever you gonna use it for

  • you could have done better things with the money..you should have been more responsible and used the money for a good purpose, instead you just tried to look like a righteous person, who could have burned the check in private instead of in public so you could show off...I am not impressed

  • cool story bro

  • lmao he failed to set fire to a piece of paper!!!!!

  • i wish they had all 9 versions of that box. lust, greed, gluttony, anger and so on and on. collect them all.( for anger the would send u a vodo doll and a liek 10 tiny swords. stab the doll which is dante with the swords, or rather keep it in the box rather then poke it lol poke poke poke poke poke.)

  • Do they all come with checks? Why not house-size ice cream cakes?

    \8-P

  • theirs an wrath circle of a box where u hear rly loud rick roll'd usi cand the only way to stop it even if u close it it still plays. ea gives u a hammer and saftey goggles and just smash the thing. (i have the greed one, angrer, thats all, im still waiting on the other ones) when u get to teh bottem just smash the player, and inside it gives u a note that says u are going to hell for destroying the music. the music is so annoying

  • aa quick question why didn't you donate it to charity instead of burning it ?

  • yeah that would have been the best choice if the check was real. it would be like turning a trick to get yourself in the 4 cicrle but rather preventing dat

  • opps i meant if u donated the check to charity and the check was real

  • i'd just hold onto it for a memento why burn it?

  • is it real

  • I dont think accepting money that is given to you is greed. If it is were all going to hell thanks to grandma.

  • ironic on the right top corner it says 666-01` lol

  • idk i wish they woouldve sent me a check

  • I would of cashed that cheque.

  • @Flamehaze45 - Don't use "of" in place of "have."

  • Comment removed

  • the company did this to see how much ppl would cash the check as some kind of study. Dam i would totally cash that check

  • arent you fucking cool. you threw away free money. 200 bucks, or the smirk of burning it. dambass

  • why wouldnt you just cash the check and donate it to charity. wouldnt that make you seem more selfless.

  • I was thinking of stuff to post in the Comments section but this fucking owned. Voted up.

  • @XmrSkinx Had he cashed it, he'd have been bound to giving the shitty game a good review.

The bottom of it says "And scoff not, for consequences are imminent."

Since EA are evil, greedy bastards, i'm guessing they'd have some way to legally bind the cashed cheque with him giving them a good review.

  • dum as hell dude

  • This fail was epic.

Pride is as deadly a sin as Greed.

  • As an avid reader of Dantes Divine Comedy, i cannot even WAIT to see what he does with Cocytus and Satan XDD

  • I originally applauded this video but after reading a few of the comments perhaps a better option may have been to donate the money to a charity.. However, some of the comments posted seem a bit harsh..?

Surely - charity > burning > quietly pocketing the money.. At least Kotaku's integrity seems to be intact..

  • Comment removed

  • you switched it with a photo copy at 0:43

  • wow, asshole of the fucking year right here ladies and gents....

if EA didn't make proper use of the money then you could have, follow your own fucking advice you noob....

  • i would have cashed it...the check looked very cool lookin and i would make a nice decoration of probably one of the best upcoming games for 2010 before the actual release...the box looks cool though...hope you didnt burned it either XD

  • Listen, if you don't like what he did here...

then you need to go to search on youtube and type in

"destructoid dante" and see what they do with that

    cheque XD

  • Destructiod's video was humorous and awesome, Kotaku's video is daft and lame

  • I would of just kept it, how many would you get of these in a lifetime, its rare that a company would send a box with a check like that,

  • What a waste of money!

  • I was pretty disappointed when I saw this. Yeah, you say that EA should give the money to charity, but knowing full well that they've already chosen not to do that, and that they sent it to people liike you instead, you yourself then had the option of giving it to charity or someone in need and instead chose not only to burn it, thus depriving anybody but EA of the money, but also put the video on Youtube to try and show how much 'better' than EA you think you've been.

    You, sir, are an asshole.

  • He did commit another sin.... sin of Pride is quite clear on this video.

  • @ToxieDogg

The money is still in existence....he only burned a piece of paper....

  • well...you said that EA should take the money and give it to charity.....they just showed that they are incapable of doing such things and instead choose to pull of publicity stunts by sending $200 cheques to game reviewers. If I was you, I would've kept it cause I know everyone's like you should have donated it and stuff but I guarantee 3/4 of the people would keep that cheque.

  • 1:47 Why don't you do it? EA gave you the choice to:

    1) Enjoy 200$ which wouldn't hurt anyone.

    2) Giving 200$ to someone who really needs it.

    3) Be a jerk and give the money back to EA (by not claiming it)

You think you are better than them for this? hahahha you suck =)

  • should've spent the money on activison games

  • Are you a messenger of SATAN?

  • BURN THAT MOTHERFUCKER!

  • I couldn't look any further

  • You're a terrible human being. That money should have been donated to someone that needed it. I think anyone that burns money should rot in hell because that could have helped a few people. I'm now done going to Kotaku.

  • yea that was dumb... you should've used that money to help someone out. You should burn in hell.

  • I don't know, man. You just burned 200$

Why didn't YOU, yourself, go and donate that money to charity? Now that would be a solution. Certainly a better solution than burning the check. Let your greed benefit others, thus committing an act of generosity instead of the general sense of stupidity shown here. Beautiful.

  • Great solution!

  • hihi funny...u just gave them what they wanted : worldwide publicity :-)

  • u just burned $200!!! WTF, screw wat EA says i wuld cash it inXD

  • Maybe he cashed it and ahter that burned it. Who knows? You dont just burn 200$ man!

  • You're a douche bag, imo.

  • Hmm, if i remember correctly the next circle

is anger, so does EA will send everyone the box

with a mobile video of RickRoll?

  • you know those boxes with a big spring loaded boxing gloves? that would be awesome to lol

  • yeah haha

  • If you had donated the money to charity after cashing the cheque. you would not have succombed to greed.

Congrats on wasting 200$ that could have fed starving children.

  • THis guy is a moron, keep the fu cking check and the box, it looks too damn cool to burn, so he just burnt 200 bucks. What a loser.

  • I don't get the problem. this is clearly advertising the game and is being paid for from the ad budget of the game. Cash it in. They gave it you or just give it to a church.

The thing with the booth babes was weird too. They're there to look hot. Though I can see how some people would try and do sexual stuff even though the contest said don't.

And the fake protests. Why were people mad about that?

  • EA's testing you, see? You took on PRIDE instead.

  • Comment removed

  • wow...you f*cked up

you should have thought about that a little harder.

  • You evil bastard. Do you know how many children could have been fed for a year with that money? Do you really believe that EA will just give up the money if they aren't spending it on advertisements?

People like you really should burn in hell.

  • You're a bigoted idiot.

  • ....and you're an idiot who doesn't understand what bigoted means. Oh aren't we the pair?

  • Hey you can still make it better; sell the box on eBay and then donate THAT to charity. I'm sure It'd be worth more than $200

  • Oh man this made me cry to see such a beautiful piece of art burn =_(

The whole point of of that decision was to put the money to good use. If you held on to the money and did nothing with it that would have been hoarding. If you did nothing about it (which you still did anyway) you would have squandered the wealth. The whole concept behind the sin of greed was to get those who had wealth to share it with others that did not have any...

  • Hey ya know while you're at it burn the box as well. I mean it would still might fetch some value at a gamer charity auction but I bet it would work better as kindling for a bonfire for your next video. >=(

  • damn moron. Charity no? Stupid Nerd

  • If you put the whole box on e-bay you could probably sell it for 1.000 $ That is true greed. Not cashing in 200 $.

  • youll be in the 9 circle of hell, its called stupidty.

  • lol what a retard

  • I was thinking the same thing as all the other coments, why not give it to charity yourself?

  • Instead of Moralising at EA, perhaps you should have tried donating the money to charity yourself?

instead you burned it and made yourself look like, hmm, whats the word... Twat.

  • BURN IN HELL YOU CHEQUE

  • stoophed its like burning money.. oh wait it is burning money. Just take the money! and buy shits or charity whatever the guy says below me. why would you do that?! the message is not real just take the money.

  • EA should use their money on making better games instead of buying off reviews of their medicore games.

  • 1. You could've donated it.

    2. You could've bought a shitload of chickenwings with it

and 3. You could've burned it in a waaaay cooler fashion. Like with gasoline and shit...

Instead you failed... On all levels... But hey, nice grill man, I feel like having a 200$ barbecue myself if you don't mind...

  • or he could be manly and HOLD THE FUCKING CHECK AND BURN IT lol

  • Yeah that would've been EXTREMELY AWESOME! First he should have poured gasoline all over himself, let somebody light the check and then light him up with it. And then the other person could have lighted a cigar with the remaining piece of burning check and say ''Aaaah, Amerika, the only place where burning checks is A-OKAY!''

  • HELLZ YEAH

  • you would be sent to the sixth circle for heresy for burning a collectors item, the seventh circle for destroying EA's property, the eighth circle as the box is a bribe from EA for a good review, and finally the ninth circle where you would be chewed upon by satan for being a journalist the most hated people on earth.

I would be sent to the second circle because I lust for that collectors item.

  • fuck that i would have cashed that check send me to a $200 check ill give in to greed

  • I would have kept it. That's a wicked cheque.

  • you moron cash it

  • wow u no u could of gave that check to charity right?

  • ROFL. The "journalist" obviously doesnt get the point here. Pitty. You could have donated the money to a good charity organization as well, rather than just burning it and proclaiming it is the best thing to do.

I'm sure EA is very impressed by this statement, as will as the rest of the world. (/end of sarcasm mode)

  • you bastard

  • Uh.... why did you get a check? I want one... and I wont burn it either.

  • I would probably cash the check. >.>

You should've edited in like a horrible scream as you burned the check though. XD

  • Is this a joke? Your burning the check, saying "EA you can spend your money in better ways like donating", while what your doing is simply burning the check, wasting it? Why do you burn the money instead of donating it? If you tried to look cool, I'm sorry, it came out kinda dumb. Besides, its the money they use to advertise the game. What they basically did was advertising the game, and then giving YOU the option to donate (part) of the money that was used for the advertsidment.

  • It would be silly not to cash a cheque from a giant corporation.

  • u say its a sin to cash that in i say its a sin to burn that check when u could have given it to charity or something... think about the poor homeless starving ethiopian children that could have used that money

  • You should burn your next paycheck too. That is if you've managed to acquire a job with that intellect of yours.

  • Genius... :'D

  • It's a PR stunt, and I think it's genious!

  • dumbass

  • Who needs money these days...I sure don't...

    (yes I lied)

  • Are you serious?! Atleast keep it as a nice collector's item!

  • Concrats motherfucker cuz u are an fucking idiot. Burnin 200 bucks wtfuck ís wrong with you? Fucking die asshole! use it for some reason for exampel send that cash to charity if you think its important. You sure humiliated EA ..... wait what fuck no! You just proofed the fact that humans are idiots because stupid morals fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck. Someone sure would have neede that money and so on but the genius himself burned it. Fucking rich asshole

  • not spending it on your african-american stupid black ass

  • What the fuuuck! I aint black and I aint american?

  • Since not very many of these were made, isn't there a good chance this will become a collector's item worth much more than 200 dollars in the future? Or as others said, used it to help someone who really needs 200 bucks. Or given it to charity. Or anything undouchy.

    You're a stupid asshole.

  • retard.

  • I'm sure you could have used that money better than EA...

  • so does this mean EA is the devil, cuz im pretty sure in the grand mechanics of the universe EA just asked people to sin, therefore corrupting their souls...

  • "Wow i made EA to be humalited !, I'M GREAT !"

no, u could use the money to help people who need it

  • Congratulations! You squandered the money in a fashion worse than they could have originally anticipated.

  • Why not to donate this money :( ?

  • Exactly what I thought.

  • never burn money, that can help other peoples, like poor kids, or whateves, u know what i mean

  • Accepting money is a act of greed.
