Wow, it's like watching our previous golden retriever and cat play. Your two animals look so much like ours, except our cat was a bob tail. Our golden "Doc" and our cat "Kirby" used to do the exact sparring and play that yours do. They were also best buds and would share a bed, as well as lick each other and show much affection. Both are gone now, but perhaps they still play on the other side of the rainbow bridge.

These two act like they have been raised together and are so darn cute, whether they are play fighting or snuggling. The dog is showing amazing self control, I can see the fur flying, yet they are both obviously playing and having a good time. I miss our dog, Melanie, she was 15 and passed away Nov 1, 2010. Our kitties miss her too. May you enjoy many, many more years with Gabriel and Stanley!

Oh, this is darling and typical! I have always had a house hold with cats and dogs, but my babies always kiss one another up waking. The to male cats cuddle then spar.

One of the cats came to the defense of our little schnauzer we just had to put down after 13 years with mouth cancer. He was being taken on his regular walk when a large dog attempted to attack him. Our cat Sam ambushed him, jumping from a tree and snarling like a saber tooth tiger, all fangs. The dog took off.

declawing is the cruelest thing you can do to a cat - please don't even say you hope he is declawed! that is just awful -- my dog and cat play all the time -- don't underestimate a cat - they know when to use their claws - they don't hurt you when they are playing unless they feel threatened or in danger - clearly here they are not in any fear - my cat has never hurt my dog ever - you take away their claws and they are defenseless and it also causes spinal problems due to being unbalanced

Nice video! My dog and cat play like this too, although it happened more often when they were younger. Some great examples of cross-species calming signals (appeasement signals, or how they tell each other it's only play) in this clip: lip licking, head turning, look-aways, blinking, play bows on dog's part, slow-mo on cat's part. Clear communication despite certain body language (raised paw and tail movements, especially!) having different meanings for each species.

What a great video! At any point, either of those animals could have inflicted serious harm, but they both know that it is just playtime. They get along just wrestling and goofing around, and then settle in at night as friends. Too bad the human race can't act in such a manner..

I'm glad the dog is very tolerant. Twice after the cat swiped at the dogs face, he was rubbing his nose and face ... I don't believe in declawing cats, but I also don't believe they should be encouraged to "play" in this manner ... one wrong swipe and the dog could have a serious eye injury. The snuggling and sleeping scenes are wonderful.

@yahtze666, legitimate concern, though the cat probably doesn't have it's claws out enough to actually hurt the dog. When he's rubbing his face, it's probably from the claw points, like needle pricks causing his skin to tingle. Somehow it works out, like running with scissors!

Actually, the amazing thing is that the cat is NOT declawed but never uses them. It's bap, bap, bap, but with a soft paw. Similarly, Gabriel never bites down and he's careful not to land on Stanley.

Yes, I remember when I had cats (now I am allergic) they dont use their claws when they are playing and dont want to hurt anyone. But I thought I saw Gabriel shaking and pawing his head as if if it hurt. Maybe sometimes the cat forgets?

@intrec1 I had a Cat that would pounce on people from hiding places.Sshe was the most claw-tastic cat I have ever known, using her claws for EVERYTHING. But she would never use them when pouncing. So it was more like getting attacked by a stuffed animal.
