  • I, personally was "moved" by yer film reel. really...dead honest. I, not even from Dundee... not even a Jock... I, considered by many as a "bloody foreigner" lived in the "Old stinky" for a year... came to appreciate Scottish Football (good and bad)... vaguely remember owning a copy of WORLD SOCCER magazine with a photo of the Cup winning Goteborg side players on the front page. Never really took an interest about DUNDEE... not until today...until stumbling on yer footage here on YOUTUBE today.

  • A word of encouragement and appreciation. I can see how your love of DUNDEE FC runs coarse in yer blood! You've got some talent too. Honour "The Terrors" by doing something "useful" about this footage reel. Like someone said earlier, try and assemble it all on yer own DVD. And see... maybe offer it for a wee price. With an appropriate graphic cover. See...You'd do many people a good turn... you'd be surprised. Offer to play it in Dundees hospitals... where ailing hearts an be strengthened again!

  • And it must have gathered quite some dust before Mr. Time that "great healer" brought it back out of the cupboard and helped to bring back some pride again. That beatutifully assembled footage and film montage has it all.... a perfect and chronicle.

    Your children and grandchildren will marvel at the great days you lived in... and of all the feelings, emotions, expectations, hopes, longings, dreams that you went through.. though finally dashed ... gone... but not forgotten...

    Great cinematographic vision and stunning film shot sequences. A real gem of a film reel. A real piece of history!

    Beautiful and moving little snap shots filmed on that memorable yet ordinary-looking day in Dundee.

    Sometimes one doesn't realise the importance and significance of moments like these (all the snapshot moments hours before Kick Off). And surely the bitter dissappointlent of defeat must have letf this film reel locked up in some dusty cupboard..

  • this was filmed 21 years ago and had to be transfered from home movie to VHS and them from VHS to digital!

  • This film has been a target of some critics. Those critics do not fully realise that broadcasting technology for the everyday person is still new and in its infancy. Film movie technology had even more limitations. Video recorders were nee with no link to home movie. You Tube limits the quality of such material. The original is far better - that was why Dundee United were proud to use extracts.

  • I also feel that this film achieves elements of the passion of football in ways that other - professional feature films have not. It also provides the only home movie of a Uefa Cup Final film that I am aware of on You Tube - all the others are tapes from TV. Only recently with mobile phones have such clips appeared on this site.

  • you are clearly filming a screen with a camera. There is technology to get the original film into a digital format mate, it is crap quality.

    The film was made in 1987.

    TV's did not connect to cine cameras! Video recorders were only new inventions and digital cams were 3 foot in size. Hard to get into a game unseen!

    Most of the football films are copies from TV! and poor copies at that. Digital is still now that was my point!

    Can't and should not reinvent history. If you watch the "Flair Play" DVD you will see the true quality of "Little Giants".

  • Have to disagree! In the good old days when tickets were cheap, pies were the only thing to eat and you could stand and when photographs in the newspapers were black and white. I have yet to see any other real film of that period produced by home movie of a football match - certainly at this level on You Tube or anywhere else for that matter. You should be proud rather than being a critic and able see an alternative version of that day in 87. In those days we worked on limited resources

    Only a few years earlier United had to upgrade the floodlighting to come up to standard. Why are the photographs in your video in black and white - cause thats what they did at that time! Can't colour them now.

  • Filmed off two screens actually. Barcelona was filmed using 8mm film from 12 inch TV - as that was all I had. The rest was film with 8mm film. Years later the whole film was filmed from another screen as it was projected from an old fashioned projector - onto VHS tape. Last year it was converted from VHS to digtal - and had to be compressed to get on You Tube.

  • Still better than the phone cams of today. At least I got to make the most attending a European Final in Dundee! Many others have not or could not have done this and still have the record of it today

  • It was 20 years ago - tech was not the same. The BBC computer was around and windows were the things in walls and you had to dial to phone and unemployment was high!

(Örgryte IS is another sucessfull football club from Gothenburg) Myself I've only heard about this game, i've heard that it was a very familiar atmosphere among bot IFK and United fans, which if it's true would be very rare in todays football.   • tonight this part of the film was top rated on You Tube under "Uefa Cup Final"

  • Just gone 11pm and Sevilla have won the cup. During the match we heard about England and the great games in Glasgow. We heard that the highlights of the playoff games in England were to be shown at 11pm. On the news it was look away if you do not want to know the score --- of course that was for England!

    On the new morning TV programmes the day after the '87 final - one viewer from England exclaimed about it being live on TV (UK wide!) -"Why did we have to watch this meaningless game on TV"

I'm not a United fan, but how fantastic to be reminded of so many things about Dundee from 20 years ago...the old Grampian TV logo, Arnotts (I can't remember if John Menzies was still on the corner where the Body Shop is now, or whether it had moved along the Murraygate a bit by then) and the old Overgate. Not forgetting the old Tayside buses! I must admit, given the technology wasn't so great back then, it's a superb bit of filming. Cheers!

  • In recent years I met and spoke to a man - a big man with a ponytale in my local social club - the ponytale was not out of place and made the man look younger than he actually was. We spoke about nothing really... that type of conversation that we all have. He died recently.

    At 6:35 - 6:45 is a man on the left wearing the blue cap. It is this man! I did not know the man then - 20 years ago!

    The next scene is the drunk man and the policeman. I wonder if he saw tha match. The drunk man at noon!

  • The man to the left at 5:16 looks, to me, to be Knut "Dajla" Dahlström. One of the founders of the IFK Göteborg supporter association, called Änglarna (The Angels).

  • I have had another look at the film where you identify Knut "Dajla" Dahlström. That type of character I wanted to include in the film to give a European feel to the film. I think Dahlström adds to the film.

  • 1 - In the past another European Final was almost all British. The teams? 2 - One of the British teams did not reach that final. The teams? 3 - That losing team lost 3-0 away after winning the first leg. The teams? 4 - What connection did that losing team have with the lsoing team in this years semi-final?

    1. Liverpool v ? 2. Dundee United 3. Roma, Dundee United 4. Both are United, lost to Italians and both would have played Liverpool in the Final!

  • great memories.watching Man Utd dismantle AS Roma the other night brings back how good a squad United had in the mid eighties and how close they got to immortality.Never to be repeated but at least we had those times.
