@3q89396 It's just early development of the emulator. As a system, it's almost as powerful as the Wii, which has it's N64 emulation quite up to speed on Mario 64. Therefore, it's only a matter of time before it's running full speed.
will the emulator support "hi-res textures"? I don't mean actually higher resolution textures but the ability to replace textures? I'm sure the emulator would work better with optimized textures.
No, the prototypes use the exact same hardware as far as CPU / GPU go. But I think there's still a little room for the emulator to be optimized, so by the time we get one, it might run Mario smoothly.
Keep in mind that the N64 has some features that cannot be practically emulated. Mario doesn't use them, but Goldeneye and maybe later, more advanced games do, and those can't be emulated at all on OP.
It's called the memory management unit. From what I've heard, it's only used in a few of the more technically advanced games like GoldenEye and Perfect Dark.
But it's very complex to emulate. PCs can probably do it fine, but on the Pandora it would be impossible.
I think the Zelda games might work as they are based on a similar engine to Mario 64. Starfox, I don't know. We'll have to wait and see what the developers say.
Zalda Ocarina of Time isn't demanding at all.I guess any machine that can emulate Mario64 can emulate Ocarina. The other Zelda (Majora's Mask),needs the Expansion Pack, just like Golden Eye or Donkey Kong 64. That's why I know it is demanding.
Starfox shouldn't be too hard either, I just mentioned it because I like it. I own a copy of StarFox64 too. I try to own a copy of every game that I like, but to play them emulated on a hand held device should be pretty nice.
You are probably referring to the cursor and the console refreshing from time to time. The game takes over the frame buffer but everything else is still running in the background. It won't be like that forever though.
pandora should be shipping within months. to the author of this video- how are games that are notoriously hard to emulate running? i'd like to see star wars rogue squadron, perfect dark, conkers...do they even boot?
PSP emulation is only smoother if you equate "frameskip" with "smooth", which makes no sense. Try running Daedalus without frameskip and see if it goes faster than this.
And how long has Daedalus been in development? How long has the PSP been out? Now compare that to how long the Pandora has been out, wait a minute, it isn't even out yet!
The psp version, daedalus, is actually already slower than this, anything you see that suggests otherwise is because frameskipping is not on in this video.
i was wondering, whether there is a graphing calc app for the Pandora, can anyone tell me please.
I am kind of undecided, whether getting one is worth it, and a calculator would definitely get me to buy it.

how did you get this?
rongmario 1 year ago
It doesn't seem to be running all that smoothly, but I guess that's what we can expect from a prototype.
Do you guys think that the final product will end up emulating N64 like it should be emulated?
Nintendo 64 has always been a tough system to emulate anyway.
I think I want one of those machines. If the final product emulates N64 properly, you got a costumer.

"I think there's still a little room for the emulator to be optimized"
You mean by improving the software, right?
I'm not really an expert on the technical stuff, so could you explain to me what is it exactly that the N64 has as a console that cannot be emulated?
Because I have a N64, and I own a Majora's Mask cartridge, and I'm sure I've seen people emulate that very demanding game.
I would love to be able to play the n64 Zelda games, Starfox64 and Mario64 on a portable system.

Can 2 Pandoras be connected?
BohemianBlasphemy 2 years ago
@BohemianBlasphemy:
If the software supports it, yes, Pandoras can be connected over a standard PC network like LAN (need a USB ethernet adapter) or Wi-Fi.
As far as I know, none of the emulators support MP over a network yet, but people have mentioned it and it's definitley a desired feature.

i don't think it will be running perfectly at the release but it surely is possible it's just matter of time

I'm sure Alienware M17x is even better for N64 (and even PS2) than netbooks but you missed some important points:
1. Pandora is a handheld
2. Pandora is much smaller than any Netbook
3. Pandora has longer battery life than usual netbooks
4. this emulator is still under development
5. You can't really compare x86 CPUs to ARM CPUs

N64 sound is a pain in the ass and a cpu cycle whore. I bet this would be full speed with no frameskip if there were no proper sound emulation.
