  • i was wondering, whether there is a graphing calc app for the Pandora, can anyone tell me please.

I am kind of undecided, whether getting one is worth it, and a calculator would definitely get me to buy it.

  • nice lag

  • @3q89396 It's just early development of the emulator. As a system, it's almost as powerful as the Wii, which has it's N64 emulation quite up to speed on Mario 64. Therefore, it's only a matter of time before it's running full speed.

  • youtube.com/watch?v=l_v4Uc98DkY full speed Mario 64 on Pandora

  • will the emulator support "hi-res textures"? I don't mean actually higher resolution textures but the ability to replace textures? I'm sure the emulator would work better with optimized textures.

  • try rebuild emulator via ms d.o.s.

  • how did you get this?

  • It doesn't seem to be running all that smoothly, but I guess that's what we can expect from a prototype.

Do you guys think that the final product will end up emulating N64 like it should be emulated?

Nintendo 64 has always been a tough system to emulate anyway.

I think I want one of those machines. If the final product emulates N64 properly, you got a costumer.

  • @BohemianBlasphemy:

No, the prototypes use the exact same hardware as far as CPU / GPU go. But I think there's still a little room for the emulator to be optimized, so by the time we get one, it might run Mario smoothly.

Keep in mind that the N64 has some features that cannot be practically emulated. Mario doesn't use them, but Goldeneye and maybe later, more advanced games do, and those can't be emulated at all on OP.

  • "I think there's still a little room for the emulator to be optimized"

You mean by improving the software, right?

I'm not really an expert on the technical stuff, so could you explain to me what is it exactly that the N64 has as a console that cannot be emulated?

Because I have a N64, and I own a Majora's Mask cartridge, and I'm sure I've seen people emulate that very demanding game.

I would love to be able to play the n64 Zelda games, Starfox64 and Mario64 on a portable system.

  • @BohemianBlasphemy:

It's called the memory management unit. From what I've heard, it's only used in a few of the more technically advanced games like GoldenEye and Perfect Dark.

But it's very complex to emulate. PCs can probably do it fine, but on the Pandora it would be impossible.

I think the Zelda games might work as they are based on a similar engine to Mario 64. Starfox, I don't know. We'll have to wait and see what the developers say.

  • Zalda Ocarina of Time isn't demanding at all.I guess any machine that can emulate Mario64 can emulate Ocarina. The other Zelda (Majora's Mask),needs the Expansion Pack, just like Golden Eye or Donkey Kong 64. That's why I know it is demanding.

Starfox shouldn't be too hard either, I just mentioned it because I like it. I own a copy of StarFox64 too. I try to own a copy of every game that I like, but to play them emulated on a hand held device should be pretty nice.

    Can 2 Pandoras be connected?

  • @BohemianBlasphemy:

If the software supports it, yes, Pandoras can be connected over a standard PC network like LAN (need a USB ethernet adapter) or Wi-Fi.

As far as I know, none of the emulators support MP over a network yet, but people have mentioned it and it's definitley a desired feature.

  • i don't think it will be running perfectly at the release but it surely is possible it's just matter of time

  • sound sucks but you can allways mute it an turn on sumthing hard core (oh ya hard core mario)

  • Mate can you try battlezone: rise of the black dogs on your pandora and post a vid please, that one would be really interesting to see.

  • Starting at 1:33 asses start getting kicked hard.

  • dude when u OC'd to 800mhz & played MK64 was that an artifact on the screen. just wondering no insults intended

  • You are probably referring to the cursor and the console refreshing from time to time. The game takes over the frame buffer but everything else is still running in the background. It won't be like that forever though.

  • oh lol i see. BTW have u come across any overheating issues or anything when u OC'd the clock speed?

  • wtf is that i thought it was a ds

  • It's an OpenPandora, you can google for it.

  • One of the easier games to run is mario64. Also Pandora is promising but its getting to be pandora forever!

  • pandora should be shipping within months. to the author of this video- how are games that are notoriously hard to emulate running? i'd like to see star wars rogue squadron, perfect dark, conkers...do they even boot?

  • I have to get myself one of these

  • I'm sure Alienware M17x is even better for N64 (and even PS2) than netbooks but you missed some important points:

    1. Pandora is a handheld

    2. Pandora is much smaller than any Netbook

    3. Pandora has longer battery life than usual netbooks

    4. this emulator is still under development

    5. You can't really compare x86 CPUs to ARM CPUs

  • exactly kipchak...portable n64 is worth the price of admission!

  • Man, I ordered my Pandora on January and when I see this, I don't regret anything.

  • Awesome.

When this gets to fullspeed (which it probably will) i definitely know where my moneys going.

  • o0h my GOD ! I see the new keymat on it, everything looks fine ! ;)

  • this is only been a few months in progress. the psp has had a couple years to optimise emulation.

  • PSP emulation is only smoother if you equate "frameskip" with "smooth", which makes no sense. Try running Daedalus without frameskip and see if it goes faster than this.

  • Its an emulator, idiot.

  • And how long has Daedalus been in development? How long has the PSP been out? Now compare that to how long the Pandora has been out, wait a minute, it isn't even out yet!

  • looks great! almost full speed!

  • N64 sound is a pain in the ass and a cpu cycle whore. I bet this would be full speed with no frameskip if there were no proper sound emulation.

  • damn ordered 1 year ago now.. Pleaseeeeeee i can;t wait! We can't wait!

  • Haha, Mario needs a cure for the hiccups. :D Can't wait for the next video!

  • They just got it working on the pandora. Give some time for them to finish optimizing it.

  • the psp version has been in production for a few years, this has been in production for only a few months, so its woulnt be fair if you compare them

  • Pandora is also 2x more powerful :P

  • Protip: ur woofin.

The psp version, daedalus, is actually already slower than this, anything you see that suggests otherwise is because frameskipping is not on in this video.

  • That is true. I completely forgot about the frameskip option. This was straight 1:1.

  • True, but "this" isn't even out yet.

  • Looks awesome, I want to see Zelda too!!!

  • can we see how oot runs?

  • ^_^

  • Yay, now we can wait and hope for the dreamcast emulation improvements. :D.

  • Oh yeah I forgot about Conkers Bad Fur day :D

  • I want my Pandora!

  • Sorry about fucking up the Y axis, will be fixed in my general purpose joystick driver

  • sweet it runs real nice, a few tweeks and it will be smooth as

  • silk? :-)

  • Wave Race 64... here I come!

    MAximum Power! >>>>>

  • Sweeeeet.

  • Brilliant!

  • WOW! Nice case nice emulator! I'm all excited again. Now please send me my Pandora I've been waiting for everyday for a year :D

  • i've been waiting 2 years, i want yours first! ;)

  • Wow. Didn't think the code of Mupen64 would run this good already. Excellent video. Thanks for showing this.
