@odysseasX Melodic Black with Gothic influences. It's still technically black metal. Just not raw black metal. There are loads of sub-genres of Black Metal nowadays but if you want to be elitist and not go with the flow of musical evolution then that's up to you me old but even Burzum isn't classified as Raw Black Metal so would you turn your nose up at their sub genre label or just listen to the music? I'd stick with listening to the music and stop the whole tears about musical genres.

No. Melodic metal band with black metal vocals. That's how I see it. If people call this black metal, then why not cradle of filth? They are heavier and they have more black metal characteristics than these guys. But NOOO! People call CoF extreme gothic metal, while others call Mirzadeh black metal.

@odysseasX Nah, but it never proclaimed to be just "Black Metal". I'm not even particularly keen on the song myself but it does label it's self correctly. Cradle of Filth were symphonic black metal at one point but they just haven't been close to it in a long time.

Black Metal isn't defined by blast beats or tremolo picking guitars either so I don't know why you would try to simplify a genre in that way. You are probably going to piss people off with comments like that.

It just seems really stupid to me that the most CoF fans label them as extreme gothic metal EVEN at their black metal songs. But if you wanna label Mirzadeh black metal as your own opinion, then who am I to stop you?

@odysseasX These do have black metal characteristics though so i don't really see your point. The song structure isn't black metal but it is melodic black which is a pretty big range in it's self. Most fans of CoF now are american teens to my knowledge. They lost all credibility back in about 2000.

I'm not saying you would care about pissing people off but i wouldn't have expected such a terrible comment to come out of so called black metal fan.

By the sounds of it you wouldn't like the sub-genre that these fit in to rather them being a bastardisation of the Black Metal genre. At least these are now in a category you can safely say you don't like which just validates the point of sub-genres really.

Yes, that's what I said. Actually, I don't blame for using an umbrella term, it's actually quite clever. This way they're more free to experiment with their music without people saying that they're not "Tr00" anymore. Besides, the term Dark Metal already exists, so they didnt label themselves or make it up.

Anyway, if you're gonna get labelled, its not such a bad idea to do it yourself instead of having other people do it for you.
