For example, the greatest number of miles in 24hours. Just getting a GPS to peak at a number for a second is NOT a sailing speed record. Sorry, come back when you can go 1,464 miles in 24 hours, THEN you can claim 'fastest sailboat in the world".

I could have beaten it in ANY race with my Hobie 16, because once it capsized it could NOT FINISH THE RACE. But ok, I will set up my own race, the water will be frozen. The current speed record for ice boats on frozen lakes is over 100 MPH!

Well, they do have a sprit... but I was thinking, they go 2x windspeed. With my wing on skis or skate I do that, and you are going so fast you create so much apparent wind that the wind is always from a beam reach or further forward, even when sailing downwind. If you look at some of the new pics, they are sailing deep downwind, and have the sailing trimmed in like you would on a close reach on a 'normal boat' they are faster keeping the apparent forward with a jib then a spin?

Number two.

Yes it would not make the boat go any faster if they had their sail all the way up the mast. This is why the boat needs to be redesigned. In one word. Counterweights. Quit being afraid of weight and make a monster boat with huge counterweights and take it around cape horn. Nobody has the guts to spend that much on a boat like that. Too busy showing off to make a real 21st century Sailboat instead of just a pretty boat or a racer. Bet I could break 100 knots easy.

Okay two things for some that think they know something about sailing but just rant without knowing.

One.

There is a boat called a Laser II. Look it up. Take it for a spin. Better yet. Get on a beam reach with a good crew and skipper...get the boat in a plane. then tack upwind as hard as possible while keeping toward the back of the boat. you will spin like a top and land going right back where you were coming from...if you know your stuff well enough and are not afraid of a few spars.
