  • The Fleetwoods truly defined soft rock.

  • THANK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!! WONDERFUL SONG, FULL OF SOUL, SENTIMENTS, LOVE, AFFECTION - WHAT A DIFERENCE TO THE ELECTRONIC RUBBISH WE ARE FORCED TO HEAR ALL OVER IN PUBLIC PLACES, LIKE IT OR NOT - RAMMED DOWN OUR THROATS!!! PLEEEEEEEEEASE KEEP THEM COMING!!!

  • music mafia 2

  • It's almost eerie how mellow this song is

  • I have LOVED this song since I was a little kid in the 80's. I used to practice singing both girl parts. :)

  • During my elementary school years how I enjoyed listening to their soft easy sound which was so appealing.. as if it is was a lulaby... sweet sound.-

    lovely sound..

  • it's great footage, but I don't care for live audiences that clap along. Rather than adding to the performance, they take away.

  • @geoduck1000

relax old man...they were just having a good time. I'm sure you'd understand if you didn't have to worry about retirement, social security and such nowadays.

  • Love this song!!! I've been singing along to it for many years, since it was first released----never gets old!!

  • this song is much deeper then the words beautiful sound bless

  • So addicted to this song

  • Mafia 2 Wayyyyyyyyyyy.. Would have never know this song if it wasnt for the game....

  • great arrangement of three talented singers....

  • NICEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. Nice to hear ... at this moment!

  • Time passed, the hits remained !

Even if there are very beautiful songs, those d' before had all the same something which takes with the J' tripe

    I love !!!

Le temps est passé, les hits sont restés !

Même si il y a de très belles chansons, celles d'avant avaient tout de même quelque chose qui prend aux tripes

    J'adore !!!

    Nostalgique..

  • The generations since (including my own) have certainly lost something since these times and this music.

  • cum softly darling? living in her parents house?

  • mafia 2 fuk yeah!

  • @vulcano66 i know i got the game and the song was in it and now its stuck in my head =)

  • @vulcano66 hahah thas where i heard this too lol

  • And they can actually sing...!

  • Awsome video

  • The Fleetwoods were one of the few groups in late 50's to have mostly mellow sounds and it was well accepted. Fast Rock&Roll dominated but we still needed this mixture that the Fleetwoods and some other groups provided. Ron--Highway Stars Magazine

  • they harmonize so beautifully. i really wish i could go back in time...this seems like such an innocent generation. i've been so desensitized from the music nowadays. i bet it was easier to get to heaven back then...with better influences and less profanity.

  • @TORIthecamgirl What a beautiful thing to say! I was born in 1950 and I grew up with my parents playing this music ... the beginning of rock 'n roll. I know that I was so fortunate to have been born then, to hear all of the music I did. Just keep asking for musicians that sing, write, harmonize ... and you'll get it.

  • @TORIthecamgirl Sounds like you'll have no trouble in the heaven dept. You've got a good start- a conscience and good taste!

  • oh god the next song was COOKIE COOKIE, LEND ME YOUR COMB,.....at least it sounded like it...

  • @DimitriKarlov and 55 years later we don't NEED a comb.

  • absotively posalutely fantabulous :)

  • What was the name of the song/artist after The Fleetwods sang this beautiful song?

  • Was that Dick Clark i saw just now?

  • `proper` singing. thanx 4 posting.

  • 92Wendel92 "Enchanting" The perfect word :)

  • Found it on ebay, DICK CLARK'S BEST OF BANDSTAND. It's worth whatever you have to pay;)

  • I used to have this Dick clark/BandstandVHS tape. Quite an amazing selection. Hope to replace it one day... maybe ebay has it.

  • I really Love the vocals here, also the way the singers trade off between lead and background vocals.

  • Enchanting, romantic. Lovely.

  • HEARD THIS SONG AFTER 18 YEARS!!!!

  • Wonderful! Thanks for posting...

  • Such a sweet and innocent song.

  • I believe this American Bandstand episode was right around the time Buddy Holly and the others died in the plane crash.

  • I love "Come Softly" (Key of C#: 1C#-2mD#m-5G#). This is just a 3 chord song in a "difficult" Key C#. It's very solidly built upon a 1-2m-5 chord progression.

  • What's really cool about it, the girls wrote this quite amazing song while they were still in high school. They tried to keep the group together but the guy got called up by Uncle Sam and joined the Navy and it was too difficult to pull off.

  • bahhhh I love love love this song :] :D :D :D i sang it with a couple friends years ago...i've got to find that recording somewhere :] such a starry eyed song... we definitely need something like this to drift through the charts :D :] I'd welcome it with open arms and probably fall asleep curled up in a blanket to it lol :P

  • To the naysayers of this video, I'll take this instead of the "lookin' like a fool" crap seen and heard so much today!

  • @dougcondor I think we tend to like the stuff we heard as preteens and teens. While I was very young for these songs, I remember all of them bc my mother listened to the radio a lot. Then later on, people still had them in their 45rpm collections so we still played them. I was born in '53 so the British Invasion is more my legacy but I love late 50's music.

  • @Tonithenightowl Probably the happiest time of my life was 1960-1963 (age 10-13) - everything seemed so simple. But like you, the "British Invasion" was my favorite era when it comes to rock music.....the Beatles, the Kinks, the Yardbirds, the Zombies, the Animals, Gerry and the Pacemakers and so forth. What a great time!

  • @50dcoop Well life was never simple for me lol. At that age you can dismiss things simply because you don't have that much life experience to figure out the tough issues. However, I agree about the simplicity of the time. Less to choose from tended to make things easier. Everyone was pretty much in the same boat. Heck, we only had about 8 TV stations to choose from for starters and 4 of them were the same lol. Thanks for responding.

  • @dougcondor How can anyone be a naysayer of this video. If they are they have to be missing the meat between their ears. This takes me back to the day when I first saw this on our black and white. If there are folks that do not like this than..well...ft

  • check out my fleetwoods' video!

  • Am I the only one who thinks he's cute?

  • That's a lot of Dum dooby doos

  • Love the song but this one freaking weird rendition. The guy looks like he's a deer caught in headlights and the movements look robotic.

  • that's how the 50s were.

  • Background vocals!! Background vocals!! Why don't bands write music with background vocals anymore???

  • @DanielGardner yesssssssss! And what happened to those dresses?? sniffles.

  • They don`t wear clothes anymore....sells more cds.....

  • @va2gm absolutely correct!

  • @DanielGardner I dont know it seems to have died along the way. Its sad seeing how most of all the "oldie" songs had them even if it was a solo artist. Today its hard to even tell a human voice from a computer's. They dont make songs like this anymore....its a shame.

  • I was juststarting to go to Bar-Mitzvahs..It was a Cha-Cha

  • Sigh.

  • I can see how Jon Waters got inspiration for his Corny Collins Show in Hairspray from these Dick Clark spots -- but Corny Collins was more interesting.

  • i LOVE it love their dresses too!

  • i love the chord progressions they used back in the 50's!!! Thay can never recreate that now!!

  • @AVGreaser - I vi IV V? I have used that progression any number of times... I suggest you check out "The Beach" by The Waiters, the I vi ii V progress we use for that is very close, and very sweet... or or cover of "Cast A Shadow" by Beat Happening, employing the ever popular (which includes the 50s) I ii IV V progression...

  • I hate to break the news to everyone, but this did not air on the day that JFK was killed. This song was released in 1959, Kennedy was killed in 1963, over 3 years later...Thanks !!

  • What a beautiful song--it always reminds me of that magic time--late 50's early 60's--also no way this aired the day JFK was shot--that was nov. '63 this song was a hit in 1959 or 60

  • This is simply magnificent. I agree, just enjoy it's simple perfection.

  • This is music

  • ...we willl never see those times again!

  • Everything is based on Love:

The evolution chose the best strategies in life and created an inborn tendency to follow those strategies: created feelings to give us + feedback about having it right and - feedback for erring badly. The positive feelings: love & happiness attach us to the pieces of our natural healthy way to live which is the best strategy in the tough world even today IF you just remember to use a holistic view of the world, which is an important major part of the best strategy!

  • Such a beautiful soft voice!

Softness = sensitivity = the ability to observe = intelligence = wisdom in ways of doing = nothing goes ashtray & needs are taken fully into account = loving ways = the base of strength

  • Who asked? um just listen to the music and enjoy , don't get bogged down by theory and how brilliant you aren't do us all a favor Ok?

Thanks , you will make the world a better place. And because you like things with = signs you talking to much equals= Boring!!!!

  • I was in a History class at that time. It was just before lunch, Vancouver time. I didn't eat much though

  • There have been many claims that someone else did the shooting. I don't believe them.

I was just 18, but that day I was just sad for the whole nation... in fact, I still am

  • The day that stands out most, though; is Nov 22, 1963. Since that day, America has never been the same. Hit me harder than 9-11

  • wait what happened that day(i wasn't born yet)?

  • JFK assassination

  • In Dallas Texas, on Nov 22, 1963; John F. Kennedy was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald.

As I write this, I have a chill up my back, because America has never been the same since

  • I didn't realize this was aired the day JFK was shot. Of course,I'll never forget that day as I was in gym class when we heard the news. For the rest of the day, everyone spoke in whispers,so strange. When I was 11 I went to the train station in CA, and heard a speech. So I was lucky enough to actually see him! I agree, we lost our innocence that day!

  • That must mean that it was the Asians who shot Kennedy... You should never be against things that are good for you, otherwise you will lose in the end. Holistic thinking and justice i.e. treating each thing according to what it is like, are musts in this era of technology! I believe Europe winning in the end because we are so rational! But that is of course for the good of all...

  • WHAT?

  • Brian Wilson wrote 'The Warmth of the Sun' after hearing of JFK's assassination, I wonder if he heard this as it was airing and used it as a inspiration...?

  • John Landis set the Parade in Animal House at Nov. 21, 1963. The last day of innocence for america.

  • I remember nothing of that, and don't remember Animal House or John Landis

  • Il y a une version française de cette chanson. Quelqu'un peut-il me donner des infos. Titre, interptète?

    Merci

  • Wonderful memories come flooding back with this song. I loved the 60s, the music, the dress, style, the simplicity, remembering good friends, who did not need to get drunk or high to have a good time, the innocence , no concerns about steet cred, designer labels and total lack of fear, when going out alone.

Did I really travel regularly on the all nighter bus from Manchester town , (smile)

Ohhhh to return to those magical times..

  • Well, actually you must love 1950's music, since this song was recorded in 1959 and was a #1 for the Fleetwoods that same year. This "American Bandstand" clip is also from 1959.

  • Thank you for enlightening me (smile)

  • I was 10 yo and I'd rush home after school to listen to BandStand while my mother fixed dinner since she had finished watching her "Soap Operas." I was "too young" for BS so she said, but I was there and I "lived it". I'm so glad I didn't miss out.

  • ...and today Dick Clark finally looks like he is 35 y.o.

  • Did you have to remind me? 64 next month

  • If you click on Fleetwoods 2007, you will find they are still singing and Gary although (just a tad older now) still sounds good and amazingly still has managed to retain that rare air of innocence about him.......eeehhhhh memories..............(smile)

  • Thanks, I will do that

  • America was innocent. Today it's evil

  • They should have left us alone.

  • Agreed

  • anyone growing up in this era was so lucky.remember transister radios? it was a wonderful time for music too

  • ...and zippo lighters, Brylcream, ducktail haircuts, and girls totally hysterical over elvis and Ricky-Tick Nelson... and the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup!! ('61)

  • thanks for posting!! What a treat to see these old clips, for one who was too young, or not born at the time, so much appreciated!, brings me and others so much pleasure. And Gary Toxel still sounds great today. I read when the first started they were calling themselves Two girls and a guy.

  • ven a mi suavemente,Caryne

  • I remember this shame my time machine is broke. I wish I could go home. :(

  • LOL! i was being sarcastic. they've got about as much soul as gomer pyle. (i love the song though)

  • is this "Soul Train"?

  • NO THIS WAS YEARS BEFORE SOUL TRAIN...

  • Lovely romantic song, lead singer is pretty cute too

  • this was the 1st 45 i ever bought!! i got it at kresges dime store. i t hink it was on the 'atco' label, yellow and black

  • How much?

  • At least 12 years, I do believe. This was recorded in 1959 for ABC's "American Bandstand", the syndicated "Soul Train" started in I do believe 1971 (maybe 1972).

  • The Liberty label, actually.

  • it's a nice melody :D

  • were did you get this video?, ive been looking for a box set of all the episodes from 1952 to 1964 from american bandstand on dvd, but no one has it!

  • My spell is not good, but, my ears are...this was amazing....so good!!!!

  • Groups today could learn from is time frame that talent and originality sold records. Sam ole crap is the problem now. That is why my music from the 70's is still popular. Must suck living in an age where there is no talent.

  • Comment removed

  • Nowadays we have to listen to 'Ho bitch' 'Cap your a--' 'Mother -----r'

    Nice progress we have made.

  • @sparwood8 You got that right!

  • As boring as this may look to younger viewers, trust me when I tell you that everyone involved was equally bored and couldn't wait to get naked elsewhere.

  • This is my favorite song.. Great song.

  • Love this song!!

  • You have to remember this was a different era.. what they did at that time was right for that time.. and it is such a beautiful song what difference does it really make? ;)

  • its sad to be churlish, because it really is a good song, and beautifully sung - but I guess it took ages for them to work out the routine!

  • The routine is great, perfect for the song. Gotta love it!

  • I love Fleetwood

  • Who was in charge of choreography?

  • elvis presley

  • Just as I suspected!!!

  • Thanks for the post - great song! (You are missing an "o" in Fleetwoods).

  • ha ha, great song...but they look really bored.

  • LOL yeah right... funny thing about that though:

Unlike today's 'artists' these 'bored looking' singers' music is timeless; and they weren't all jacked up on coke, etc

  • Let me clarify, I was speaking to the 20-ish crowd and trying to let them know that we are all the same at that age - The record companies made them do what they did in that tame video. I'm just saying that after the video shoot, they were so glad to be out of that uptight crap, they wanted to go out and have some cool fun (get naked).

  • search Danny and the Juniors: At the Hop. They looked much like this too. People used to dress in good taste, and were better mannered back then.

  • Also true they were more 'brittle' or tense

  • They were making art.

  • Those were the days when a singer could wear clothes and still sell records....

  • and the set's really cheap looking, and the dresses are hideous, and the picture is fuzzy: who gives a sh*t? Beautiful song, priceless to have this appearance on YouTube.

  • gotta remember we mainly listened to music on the radio, not watch it on tv, much less on yt. so you could say they had faces for radio as the old saw went.

  • They do have the face for radio alright. lol

    Thanks.

  • no doubt they would have found *you* irresistable though...

  • Maybe it's cause of their hairstyle? Remember people back then looked VERY differently from us today.

  • Yea, did doing all of that help you out?

    "Douche Bag!!!

  • Ha,Ha,Ha, you got owned, Stupid!!!

  • And I got owned how? Man, talk about some real losers. Grow up chump. You and the weirdo. The user name kinda says it all.. for both of y'all.

  • Who would ever think the Fleetwoods could spark heated debate and slander? Nothing like trolling the webz...

  • I love this song ..:-) Notice what is missing? The Microphones lol

  • Math-Phys-Chem = my fav's. Loved Geography/Geology Yours were English and History. (nothing else left, maybe Macro Econ)

  • Didn't influence me though. "D-U-Z does ERvery thing"

    NEW, T-I-D-E- TIDE

YOu finish the jingle, "Brusha-Brusha -Brusha , get the new -----" (With the big new cap, that lets the tube stand on it's HEAD)

You'll wonder where the yellow went, when you brush your teeth --- ---------.

50 years later, the brainwash is still there.

(I use cheer, beause it has BLUE MAGIC)

Honda and GM owe the Beachboys some moolah. GTO, 409, 'Honda honda, faster faster,' etc

  • You could leave your car unlocked and it would be there the next day. You could go out and forget to lock your doors, and when you got home, your place was still full of your things. Drug dealers (there wren't any) would be locked up for ten years. Murderers were put to death, and today they get light sentences and conjugal visits from their pen pal wives. ..and I could tune my 64 Pontiac all by myself in less than 45 minutes. Change the fule pump in ten mins, try that today

  • yeah, everything was so great and simple at the time. Its really greaat
