The best trumpet player - the best sportsman, the best pilot - when we find the best, it is often in very small details.
André has a wonderfull soft tone and artikulation - does that make him the best? No, but some like him better than Hardenberger or Helseth - but none plays as high as Jon faddis - but is he then better?
I like to enjoy every pro on this site - they have so much practice and talent - it is amazing!
But the best - would never say something like that - it is what WE like!!
maurice andre is simply the best trumpet player in the world and held that post for over thirty years, and it plays much the same sound and fantastic but alas not this crap and he never even man.
@TheAllan000 A very bold and UNTRUE statement. Maurice Andre is a master of the piccolo trumpet and definately one of the best classical trumpet players in the world. But to say he's the best trumpet player in the world over all would be like saying Micheal Jordon is the best athlete...even though all he played was basketball. Maurice Andre fans have a bad habit of doing this and its just ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the man...he blows me away.
Non credo che esista un trombettista che sappia suonare come o meglio di Maurice Andrè. Solo lui sa dare colore, potenza, delicatezza, velocità e tecnica contemporaneamente ad un brano musicale.
@chaingr I see what you're suggesting, but it's also true that his sound and style changed a lot, especially in his really really late yeras. I actually have a record of him playing this in the 60's or 70's, it's much different sounding than this. But I don't know, whoever this is is nailing it!
btw 1:13 gives a pretty convincing case for it being Andre....the vibrato
Ciao. Senza nulla togliere all'interprete qui postato, sia chiaro. Suonassi io come lui!!!
Anche io l'ho riconosciuto !!!!! Questo è Maurice Andrè !!!!!!! La prima versione che ho ascoltato per anni su vinile, prima di consumarlo, quando ero bambino......
Before i saw this vid. i never heard of Maurice André...

Famed classical trumpeter Maurice André praised Wynton as “potentially the greatest trumpeter of all time.”
So who the hell is the best?
I will give to Wynton.

@chaingr you're probably right, this doesn't sound like him, maybe it's an earlier version of his? I don't know...
flying365989 1 year ago
@chaingr it is very evident that you don't know Maurice André, nobody plays like that.
As a matter of fact this is part of a J.S. Bach's sonata for flute and was recorded in the late 70s.
